Thank you for sharing your experience! That's wonderful! Chibi style is very popular for sure! Exactly, the power of word of mouth is bringing you so many opportunities. And people appreciate artwork from their favorite artists! I am so happy to hear that other artists like you have gone through a similar path as me! Let's keep going💪

If this video came out maybe about 17 years ago, I would probably be doing things very differently than what I am doing now. :D I got asked about commission work a lot, and frankly I was never really interested in getting paid for drawing people or their pets. I only like drawing because people usual are very happy when I draw them, for fun like you said ^^ I know that it's frowned upon when I give away my art for free, but I do not do art for living, I am not a professional artist or belong to any guild, so I do not follow any rules or guidelines. I draw because it makes me happy that's all. But of course, now things have changed a little bit, and since I have accepted a few requests within the year or so, I actually have to be somewhat 'reasonable', that's when I started researching per hour costs etc. So this video definitely is very handy for people really would like to start doing commissioned artwork. It doesn't mean that it's wrong to just draw for fun either, we can call that as "practice" like you said.... and I can still give them away for free because it makes people happy :D Heeheehee! Thanks for the video Chika!

Oh, the joy of giving is definitely a form of happiness.
I wanted to state in the video that drawing is a skill that you can charge for, but in the end, you decide whether to charge or not.
For me, if I accept it as volunteering, I just feel pressure that I need to do it, making it feel like an extra task instead of a joy, especially when I am dealing with multiple children's books. I could tell your joy and care through your sketching, and I am sure that people are very happy with your gift.
I am so excited to show you my video next week.
I enjoyed making it so much. Since you enjoy Takahashi Rumiko's artwork, I think you will enjoy my Yokai book (Spoiler alert! ) hihihi.

    Such a lovely video !!
It’s funny to me that I’m so intensely towards the “solve problem” artist type 😅 I work 10000% better towards a prompt and have a really hard time with just expressive art. Sometimes I judge myself for that and have a hard time thinking of myself as a “true artist” so idk it was nice to hear it be a category of artist :’ ) (this is Fynn of Motley Makes critters btw )

Ooooooh Fynn! I didn't expect you to be here, Happy surprise!!
Thank you for watching my video. I've been working with clients who ask me to draw their concepts, so my creative muscle is more in problem-solving mode too.
I am so excited to make a polymer clay video, and hopefully, it will be out by the end of the month. I am working on the script right now. hehe 💪

Very interesting video! I can tell you've given the subject a lot of thought and I'm so glad to hear that it's working for you! Your portraits are so cute - I bet they get a lot of interest - perfect for an Instagram profile picture 😊 Just curious - have you ever had a client say that they weren't happy with the results? How would you handle something like that? I imagine those sorts of things would be very rare if you've been keeping them in the loop throughout the process, huh? Yeah. I've done some commission work, but not much - but it might be something I'd enjoy. I've really wanted to work more on caricatures, and that would be an excellent outlet for that sort of work. Always great content, Chika! Thank you for sharing!!

      Ooooh, that's an interesting question💡
I have never encountered a client who wasn't happy with my digital work, but at the market, there were some, yes.
I only had 3 minutes and charged the price of a coffee, so it was more for entertainment with rough sketches. But still, charging means meeting some expectations. Some people expected much more than that. They didn't say it, but you could tell from their reactions. I got hurt at first, I'm not gonna lie, but now I realize it's impossible to maintain 5-star quality artwork 24/7, especially when you have more clients asking you to draw!
For my digital work, I go through a few steps to prevent dissatisfaction by showing lots of examples from different customers, going through a first sketch, a second sketch, and then the final result. So I feel it's a more solid process compared to improvising and surprising people at a market.
Commission work is definitely something you can build like a muscle, and creating a system helps so much! It minimizes the number of texts and changes needed!

@@ogawachikako Yes, I follow what you are saying - I'd imagine it would be hard to be disappointed for your typical digital work since there is a lot of information available up front and it's probably a more considered decision than in a market situation where it might be more of an "impulse" thing without knowing full details. I salute you getting out there and making your skills available to others - I know there are loads of happy customers!

    underrated channel!
I really liked the stories about stacking skills and experience! The second half of the video was very calming!
but I have to say: I didn't click on this video immediately... and actually watched an old one instead (two days ago) because something felt off with the thumbnail
it's a bit strange to say but I would have preferred if this were less cut up and slower in the first three minutes even if it made the video more than 15 minutes long
idk if you're trying new things or felt a bit rushed but congrats on getting another video uploaded! and another one over 10 minutes long!
I hope this is more of a personal problem (mine) than anything else; but, the first 30 seconds actually made me nervous! I get anxious if it sounds like someone is struggling to breath so idk maybe you're just working through seasonal allergies or something and the speed is fine. Maybe I expected a circle and not a box for your face? Hope you're doing well!

Oh, thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to analyze my channel! And yes, I was struggling to breathe because of allergies, which also made my lips very dry and irritated. It happens every May - June.
Also, I'm still practicing how to talk about art business tips, which is out of my comfort zone. What I want to say is that you're very observant. I can't hide anything from you!
I felt the same way when I finished editing, but I published to keep up doing.
I think you'll get a different impression from next week's video, as everything has settled now. Hahaha! Thank you, as always! I really enjoy your honest feedback!

Struggling to breathe and still releasing videos? This year should be easy 😂
In that case I'll work on adapting to using emojis in my comments and replies 😆
👀 why do I feel like you cut down on your use of emoji (or emotes idk) in the comment section? 🤔
