- In this video I turn Natural Edge Vessel from a root of a Yew tree , It was quite a challenging turn with all the dirt etc that you find in root balls and there was a massive amount of hand sanding involved but Its a stunning piece to look at and full of character .. I finished it with danish oil ..

This is one of those pieces that can be examined for years, yet the viewer will continue to see new details. Bravo!
i'm always amazed at how the artist can see what's inside the raw piece.
Andy i am a retired Nurse who did a very very small amount of woodturning in my early 40s and i loved it but it was what most people think when you say woodturning, stair spindles! I have been watching several of your videos and i am truly in awe. You give a whole new meaning to wood turning/carving and it is absolutely beautiful. I have fallen back in love with wood because of you but i am now 70 and know it wouldn't matter what equipment i had i could never dream of producing what you produce. You are a wood artist. Congratulations. You are incredibly talented and i wish i could afford one of your pieces as it would have pride of place in my living room. Keeeep turning!

Well it's 4:06 a.m. and I am also watching this video and reading comments and commenting on the comments. Lol. But very cool price of wood.
No 5 min intro, no cheesy taglines, no speaking needed. Just quality content the whole way. This is how you youtube.
This is old school RUclips
And no idiotic music

ABSOLUTELY!!
did they need the click bait title though?
Having reduced yews several times and knowing how quickly they can go through chains, I can only tip my hat to your chisel sharpening skills. Beautiful end result, I love how you tailor your approach to each piece, but yew is a special wood and it certainly looked fantastic when you'd finished. Thank you for the upload.
Major missed opportunity to say “Thank YEW for the upload” 🙌🏼
I see others turn roots but they don't turn out anywhere near that perfect. You have an exceedingly Gracious gift. Beautiful!
Thank you!

That's beautiful ...😳
I remember in shop class in 7th grade, taking to the wood lathe to make a wooden lamp. One of the most rewarding projects I ever had.
How a person would thumbs down on this video is totally beyond me 🤷🏻♂️. This is meditative and peaceful at minimum.
They’re the ones who tried this and got their fingers caught or those that don’t like flying objects in the rear view mirror🥴🤣
There jeluas of this persons skill
Maybe they are machinists who winced at the hardpoint saw crashing into the unprotected bed at the start!
Maybe they are tree huggers ?. No clue here!
may be they are nature saver
I cannot say enough just how much I love that piece. The color variations in the wood are so amazing. I'm glad that you didnt use any epoxy or other materials with this piece. The grain is so beautiful on its own
I'm also glad that epoxy didn't touch this one!
ALL heavily GRAINED wood is BEAUTIFUL !!! ............................ROOTS , BURLS so on and so forth !!! The FINISHED PIECE IS FANTASTIC & OUTSTANDING !!!
I am in AWE of Curly and Birds Eye Maple !!!
That's a very beautiful piece. I can only imagine how nerve racking it must have been to hollow it out. Amazing work
Thank you!
As a landscaper I have pulled -by hand- 100s of yew stumps over the years(taxus). The part where you drill the heart out..... it felt like that last root finally gave for me. Thank you! Cathartic!
I LOVE watching wood turning videos. Each finished piece is a gorgeous masterpiece.
But I do usually find myself saying, "I wish they'd left just a little more of the wood in there, somehow the full character of that beautiful piece of wood didn't quite make it through.."
For the first time, I did NOT say that.
It is perfection.
❤
Thank you
We all love a little bit more wood left in there

I am reminded of the ugly duckling that became a beautiful swan. You took nature and with a keen eye turned it into a beautiful piece of art.
Beautiful piece of art!! Well done!! I'd be proud to have it on display in my home.
I can't stop looking at these videos. The hidden treasures in the wood brought out by the artist. AMAZING
I think this man has every tool ever invented ☺️
Beauty, in its purest form, is exquisitely revealed. All accomplished without a word.

As much as a love this video and how much of an amazing job you did on this piece… the amount of anxiety I get from watching you turn this is immeasurable 😅
That finished product is gorgeous !
Very, very nice work !
Stunning, and the colours are beautiful - the purple and lilac against the creamy white is amazing.
Quite scary thought - particularly when using the Forstner bit.
Cheers 👍
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning :: is the Yew related to the Juniper thus some Cedars.....or is that a stretch ? I’m focusing on the shared ‘purple’ and aroma of all those.
Same, I'd be spending more time prizing my tools from the ceiling trying to work those contours lol . The no resin in-fill was nice as well. Regards .

That root ball produced some interesting optical effects when it was spinning. I love seeing what results one can get from root balls and burls. Stunning piece! I would give it pride of place!
I just inherited a wood lathe, + this video has built- up my confidence to try it out .very cool Thank-You!
Just be careful if you are using it for the first time. You can get badly injured if used incorrectly.
@@PremSingh-vl8pf I've ran a metal lathe 50 years ago. And it was really kind of you to think of me! I will treat it like a loaded gun! How do you like my strategy? Your really very kind!!thank - you!

How could you resist..!?! My kingdom for a free lathe!

So beautiful. I could sit and watch your videos all day long. You do such amazing masterpieces
Love how optimistically cautious he is! He is a pro at this for sure love watching him create art! This is very dangerous if you don't know what your doing. Beautiful work of art!
Красота невероятная! Это надо же увидеть в коряге будущий шедевр. Высший пилотаж, восхищению моему нет предела. 👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely Gorgeous! You are an artist. Only someone who is a true visionary could have seen the potential in that gnarled old root!
Absolutely beautiful!🌳🌲🪵🪓
I love the irregular organic beauty of this piece.
BRAVO, Andy! This is beyond words. Absolutely stunning! I can barely walk right now...

Cheers Phil 👍
This put me in the most delightful trance of relaxation. Lovely.
There is nothing I can add other than the skill and knowledge of how not to get a tool caught in the process is just amazing. The end product was beyond beautiful.
Thank you for showing us how using a lathe to trasform the piece of root into a BUEATIFUL PIECE OF ART GRACIAS BRAVO THANKS FOR POSTING EACH PIECE OF WOOD IS UNIQUE. IT IS LIKE A FINGER PRINT NO TWO ALIKE GOD IS AMAIZING😊❤❤ I LOVE WOOD. HOW MUCH$$$ WILL IT COST!!!, EACH TREE AND PLANT HAS ITS OWN FINGER PRINT WOW😊😂❤ OUR PLANET IS SO WONDERFUL AND MARVELOUSE😊😊🎉
WOW! What an amazing craftmanship and what a beautiful work of art!

Да, и почему нам так нравится за этим наблюдать?🤔 А ведь нравится!😇 👍🏼
Какая красота! Мастеру браво! Разглядеть в обычном корне такую красоту - это дорогого стоит.
A relatively unremarkable garden shrub is turned in to an extraordinary piece. Hats off to you!
A real natural beauty converted into a piece of shite modern art
This piece is SO gorgeous! You made that look so easy but I’m sure it’s only because of your skill and subtle touch. Thanks for sharing!
And tools.
These colors that the wood contains are just so beautiful 🤩
i see the thumbnail to the video and think, "what the heck can you do with that thing!?" then i tune in and watch. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and ty for sharing the beauty you find. nature is amazing! the skills you have to make something out of a chunk of wood it truely a talent.

one of the most beautiful results I have seen. A metaphor for life…beauty in the ugly, or going through a process to get to the best part of life etc. I would have that on my display any day, beautiful grain.
Oh my gosh, I'm in love. I want this so bad. It is absolutely stunning. I love all your work but this one is my favorite so far
Cheers!
Mine too! ❤️
I'm glad you kept it in its original form, the colours and patterns are just stunning
It's great to see, under the master's hand, a thing of beauty is created from an ugly Yew root ball.
Oh no you didn't....OH YES YEW DID...lol....Just couldn't resist.... I love how you honored the wood and it's shape(s). In carving out the inside & not shying away from it...showed that you appreciated the wood exactly as it was. Then by sanding the openings so they were smooth all the way around you showed they each had their rightful place in the prominence of the whole. You have a great eye Andy. This is a beautiful piece.
Looking at you making such beautiful peace of art with a dirty root
Make me think about us
“We’re all beautifully made , we can be transformed inside out . We’re never too old , ugly and unusable “
One of the most beautiful pieces of wood I’ve seen with equally well done craftsmanship
Beautiful!
Taking mother nature's gifts and enhancing the natural beauty is a gift. Thank you for sharing your gifted creativity.
Thank you. I never tire of watching an artist at work and waiting to see what transpires. I think that is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen made. It should be in a museum so that many people can see it and admire how beautiful wood is and how wonderful that there are craftspeople who can use modern machinery to bring out the beauty in the world. Thank you again I shall enjoy watching this video time and again
Wow a lot hours put into this beautiful piece, just gorgeous.
Yew is my all time favourite tree and the colours in this piece look fabulous, it’s a wonderful piece well done.
Half way through that it was beautiful, the colours were fantastic. Wow just awesome 👌
When you have raw materials and makes it in a peace of art that is genius in my eyes.
The color , the character of the wood and your expertise made for a great turning. Enjoy your videos.
Oh my goodness! That was amazing! And surprisingly relaxing to watch!
Absolutely gorgeous! Exceptional workmanship! I want it!!! 😁
Wow! In my wildest imagination, I never thought that ugly tree root would birth such a beautiful work of art!
ich bin jedes mal verwundert das es funktioniert ohne kaputt zu gehen - grüße vom federl - du hast viel gefühl damit 🤘😎👍💚🍺🖖
This is absolutely fascinating to watch, not to mention you are a true master!!! Whoever thought that a root contained such beauty (certainly you did 😉). Still, it must be exciting for you to see what secrets nature holds in such things. You brought a new lifeform into the world. Just WOW! Subbed for sure!!!! Thank you for sharing your talent!
Thank you!

Truly a work of art! Collaboration between nature+artist=perfection!
I thought it was going to be a lamp .Beautiful to see all the different colors appear.
I am beyond excited that you didn't set this into resin. Gorgeous piece of work! 11/10!!!
Most definitely agreed, no resin needed at all.
I dunno...it is beautiful alone, organically, but some amber or copper colored resin really would make this piece pop!!!
Just my opinion, but no way! Resin would just make it look plastic and fake. But there is definitely an appeal to the resin stuff, it's really popular.
When I first saw that piece of wood, or root I thought why. Why even waste time on that.... O M G was I ever wrong!!! That is amazing af!!!
Most beautiful Peace of „Wood“ i have ever seen!
Just watched this again. That's a SERIOUSLY sick piece of wood man.
Holy crap man! That was scary. I was on the edge of my seat throughout that entire video! I want to know what it was that enspired you to use that particular piece of wood. That was dangerous, but you pulled it off. It's beautiful! Thank you for creating that, don't stop your work or art, and just continue to be careful in the future. 😄

Marvellous!!!!. Testimony that beauty lies on the inside no matter how crude it looks from the outside.just has to look for it.U are gifted buddy. I would sell my soul for your pieces😀😁😂.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ARTISTRY!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Amazing craftsmanship. That piece is spectacular.
Amazing craft, and talent; absolutely gorgeous woodgrain hidden beneath the bark's surface, and it wouldn't be exposed without this person's ability to know what treasure lies beneath, then how to expose its unique beauty. Most people don't recognize the beauty beneath the surface of the ugly duckling.
Gorgeous, spectacular, you've outdone yourself this time.
This was so enjoyable to watch. Lovely piece. The character of the wood is next level and can only be brought out like that by a true artist.
Невозможно оторваться от просмотра 😍
Точно!!!!
wow i love this one , i love the color and the way it looks so mystical to me. you do very creative works of art.
That is superb and I think I would put a light in it and hang it from my ceiling because of the great holes in it would let some light out of the sides and from the bottom. I love the grain also. Great job as always Andy.
It can be pen stand as well
I’m impressed by how sharp the hand is, or at least how it cuts right through this gnarly piece of wood. Back to the show!
That is incredible! I never knew Yews were so beautiful

Es precioso. Me encanta el modo en el que consigues que la madera sea la protagonista y muestre toda su belleza.

Spinning bowl of death! Holy God. Andy, how many years does it take to learn to do that without shooting a tool through your skull? Man. You have mad skills.
