The Prado is a beauty of a car. It doesn't deserve the title of "Watered" down Land Cruiser, this car more than holds its own and should be esteemed for a 4x4. You can absolutely never go wrong with this in your garage!
The AudiQ7 could still accomplish a lot. Probably much of what the and cruiser can. It’s more set up for comfort and luxury though as no one uses them for off road driving but it’s tested for it. It’s not a cross over at all. A Land Rover is far better than this crap
Driving in sand is an art. you dont need that speed, you have to know your vehicle capabilities, deflate the tire to 5-15 psi and you can move and stop much easier and even climb hills

Anywhere else, towing caravans or horses, crossing croc infested rivers, thousands of kms of corrugations, sand, bulldust, rock, 45 c outside, expected to last 1 million kms with basic maintenance in the back yard and maybe pull a road train or two out of a boggy dirt road, its Land cruiser.

I would never compare a Land Cruiser with a Land Rover that falls apart when almost brand new. My neighbor has had a Land Cruiser for 22 years and it's still going strong. He owns a small company that cuts wood in some remote forests so it gets driven off-road and abused a lot. He even crashed it once and destroyed the front bumper. Despite 22 years of abuse, it's still going strong. How long would a Land Rover last?
Well I had a Land Rover working on the farm and towing 3.5 tons regularly for 22 years and 12,000 hours of use, which was equivalent to around 350,000 road miles, and another few for around 10 years each. I've also got a Land Cruiser 100 1HD FT-E, bought new, which is 20 years old in September this year and has nearly 200,000 miles on the clock. I'm off now to hitch up the 14ft triple axle trailer to it and will tow two loads of 3.5 tons each, approximately 56 miles. A job that the old Land Rover 110 HiCap pickup used to do. A job now shared with a Ford Ranger.
Talked to my friend with the Prado/90/Colorado this afternoon. His was new in 2003 and is currently in his workshop with its rusted out rear axle removed, waiting for a replacement off a crash damaged one.
The tailgate opens like that because in other countries when you get the larger petrol engine, you get the spare wheel mounted there so because of that the tailgate is too heavy to open upwards.

What do you mean by "real" Land Cruiser? They have the regular Land Cruiser (aka Toyota Prado) and the larger Toyota 200 SUV. Land Cruiser is a range including both suvs

Yes I agree. The 120-150 series Prado is a pale imitation of the 100-200 series. Unfortunately they have stopped importing the 200 series into the UK because it is uncompetitive in our conditions with the Range Rover and it is just too big and bulky for the room available inside for passengers. Both big and 'small' Land Cruiser are not actually very roomy inside. My Ford Ranger has as much room in the second row are does my 100 series Cruiser. The cruiser also lacks payload capacity while the smaller Cruiser lacks towing capacity and power in the overwhelmingly popular diesel form [here in Europe]

I’m now onto my second Prado. They are fabulous - solid, built like a brick 💩 🏠, indestructible and super comfortable too. When I lived in the desert 🇶🇦 there was a saying: if you want to get into the desert drive a Range Rover, if you want to get out the desert drive a Landcruiser. Job done…

This guy does not understand and keeps comparing it with a BMW or Audi. Those brands may give you more tech and better finished interior. Those do not give you reliability or the off road technology of Toyota . They totally are different cars with different purposes in mind . He made the same mistake when comparing the land cruiser V8 with a Audi or BMW. Also, land rovers are very capable vehicles when new but are plagued with thousands of electrical problems as they age , not the case of Toyota . Land Rover has focused more on luxury than while Toyota continues to focus on reliability and off road use.
Definitely one of the toughest cars of all time, have a 2001 model, it did the school run when I was in high school, it's lived long enough to do the school run for my kids too!
This and the full Land Cruiser are the ultimate off-road, go-anywhere and come back from anywhere SUVs. The real deal and not some lame car park dwelling suburban crawling glorified station wagon such as Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover.
Land rovers beat land cruisers at literally everything apart from the Toyotas main selling point and that's its reliability. A land rover with Toyotas reliability is the dream
Millen Rogers I know my country won't rank as one of its biggest markets but these Prado's are everywhere. There's no day that goes by I don't see at least 30 on the road while driving.
We did a self-drive safari around the middle of nowhere in a convoy of 79 series and we never got stuck. They are incredible. Can u review some of the older land cruisers?
Feel as posh! It’s a Prado..... Buy a BMW or an Audie and you can look posh whilst waiting for your recovery vehicle at the side of the Old Telegraph Track in Australia. The Prado will still be running and doing its thing (with a great looking interior) in 500,000k. Hard pushed to get any flash looker that will match the Prado as a capable 4X4. I drive my 2016 model around Australian roads (city and bush) and would not trust anything else. P.S, come drive the Australian bush for a true extreme off road experience. Love the enthusiasm though 😃

Whats watered down its the same as the hilux. If anything you prefer a shorter wheelbase ans smaller car for offroading.

This guy does not understand and keeps comparing it with a BMW or Audi. Those brands may give you more tech and better finished interior. Those do not give you reliability or the off road technology of Toyota . They totally are different cars with different purposes in mind . He made the same mistake when comparing the land cruiser V8 with a Audi or BMW. Also, land rovers are very capable vehicles when new but are plagued with thousands of electrical problems as they age , not the case of Toyota . Land Rover has focused more on luxury than while Toyota continues to focus on reliability and off road use.

Feel as posh! It’s a Prado..... Buy a BMW or an Audie and you can look posh whilst waiting for your recovery vehicle at the side of the Old Telegraph Track in Australia. The Prado will still be running and doing its thing (with a great looking interior) in 500,000k. Hard pushed to get any flash looker that will match the Prado as a capable 4X4. I drive my 2016 model around Australian roads (city and bush) and would not trust anything else. P.S, come drive the Australian bush for a true extreme off road experience. Love the enthusiasm though 😃
