brilliant video! I was there, age 11 at the time! yes Leicester depot is still there, owned by DBS, most of the track overgrown with weeds. Ed Stevenson is going now leasing the depot to keep his class 56s in, so the depot is about to be revived if reports are accurate!
Brilliant video Darren. The overview shots of the entire sight with all the loco's on display was excellent to see. Amazing variety and such a shame that a similar event like that most likely won't ever be seen again locally. Enjoyed watching that :)
Cant believe how busy leicester was that day. Was always a port of call on a sunday on an east midlands rover smashing stuff. What were the stabled shunters there for. Any more leicester depot gems darren.
What a motive power collection put together that day, and a 90 in DB colours... who would have thought that back then? Sure I cabbed the 59 that day. Where has that 23 years gone?
Was it one or two foreign? I remember a little before that, the depot was chocka with locos. 20's, 31's, 45's, 47's, 56's and perhaps the odd 37 and 2 shunters. Last time I looked there I saw 2 66's. Shameful.
Just look at those liveries and classes. Wonderfull memories. Leicester could have a modern open day now. One loco + 6 wagons. lol
Thanks for posting and reminding me of the fashions back then!
You're welcome. Yep, fashions certainly changed as much as loco liveries!
Thanks for posting this, I went to this as a seven year old and its completely jogged my memory - stuff I would otherwise forgotten. Thanks again.
Great video... and a good open day.
I kept looking for myself wandering around in the background taking photos!!! ;D

Another great trip to the past. All those old diesels and different paint schemes on the motive power.
I remember going to this cracking open day, I was amazed at seeing all them different class's. top video Darren. Mike

That looked an hellfire openday! Thanks for sharing!
Another cracking video Darren. Totoally epic with a wide range of liveries and locos. Just a pity open days aren't like that now.

Superb video !
Really enjoy your videos!
What a fabulous day I missed here I was only 12 years old 🙁
It was amazing, never seen so many locos there before - although Leicester LIP these days isn't far off :-)

Hellfire video there Darren !
Weird seeing DB Schenker in 1992
90129 was in DB (German Federal Railways) livery
At the same time 90128 was in SNCB (Belgian Railways) and 90130 in SNCF (French Railways)

That it is what I was thinking too. Also the Class 59. I think the railfans/train watchers must have treated it as something odd.
Ah Memoires
Health and safety bollox would'nt allow this to happen nowadays.. a shame. great footage of Rails better days (imo)
