- BR Blue 56020 double heading with Departmental Grey 33116 on 'The Solent & Wessex Wanderer-7' and Dutch livery 33046 'Merlin' dragging an ailing NSE 50030 'Repulse' on Waterloo to Salisbury are the two highlights, but there's also some clagging Class 47's, slam door EMU's(plus Class 442 Wessex Electrics), and some 'Thumper' DEMU's. Filmed on 23rd February 1992.
superb stuff again Darren - enjoyed all of that particularly the sights and sounds of the old 3rd rail slam door stock and the 'thumpers' - cracking capture visually and sound of the thumper accelerating away - great stuff
That has to be the filthiest Class 43 I've ever seen in my life! Fantastic variety and lots of action. Poor old Repulse, what a state she was in by that time. Close to the end for the 50s I guess. Thanks for the upload..
What a fantastic video of a time when there was so much variety of now classic motive power through Basingstoke. Thank you very much for this wonderful record Darren.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this ... reminds me of my good memories there ... I love how the footage looks more film than video ... well done!
Funny ennit. I look at how busy it is in this video and feel an urge to spend a day there but of course it would be nowhere near as interesting. Smashing Darren. Great selection of workings.
I thank you Darren, thank you so much for yet another entertaining and high video. It's higher than 5 star rate, which is almost impossible but you make it possible.
What a lot of memories, the trouble is they are all sad ones, thanks Darren for showing this video. Mike
Thats the railway of today! Love your vids with lady june! They put a smile on my face!
Its a bit different now. I went about 5 weeks ago and you seem to get a lot of freight through there these days. The units are very modern and the feel of the station remains intact. Nice place too.
There you go, if all other power fails , send a crompton as a thunderbird and it'll pull the whole consist home . Good old class 33, powerful, reliable and steadfast . Love em . -bud the painter-
yeah the first HST service that ran through basingstoke at that time was the Dorset Scot Edinburgh to Bournemouth then other HST'S took over the Wessex Scot to Glasgow Central via Carlisle then The Pines Express Bournemouth to Manchester Picadilly
One down, three to go! Great vid mate, nice to see some 33's in action for a change on youtube, got a couple of units in there too...lol, only one Hst, didn't they run through there on a regular basis? Some nice 47 action too. Liked.
Grid and crompton pair, pretty nice!
A great vid! highlight for me was to see a shove! 47701 what a beast!
Thanks darren for posting another great video len.
Thank you very much
nice,,remember dragging my cousin of them electric tracks years ago,,, how we dident get killed I never know
Looking back those, twenty years was brilliant, how many are still running, does any one know. of those seen on this film
The only diesel locos running through Amazingstoke these days are Sheds running freight.
Sadly that's true for most places these days, but I guess like here on the MML you get the odd 37, 60, 67, and 73 now and then.
🚂👍
Great record of early 90s. Those emus look rubbish from a modern perspective
