I agree with Becky on cleaning yourself! I’ve lived in various apartments for the past 3 years, sharing with 1-3 other people, and I always was the one cleaning bc I cannot handle when other ppl’s cleaning is subpar.

I’m currently dating a sports guy and while I was kind of a sports gal before hand, Rainie’s tip a while back about thinking of everything like reality TV with all of the drama has made me get so much into it it’s ridiculous. I thought the drama was interesting before but now there’s just a whole separate storyline going into each game like what Coach has been up to what and which players do not get along at all- it’s thrilling hahahaha

Guys, induction is super easy to use, and bonus, you're not breathing in carcinogens (like you do even with your gas stove turned off). So 🤷 really seems like a no brainer..
My new property manager is pretty dope :) he’s friends with everyone in the building. He liked me so he pushed my application through. So Matt you’re so right the property manager do have a huge impact on who gets in. My place is rent controlled too! Also Hollyburn properties seems to be a good management company so far!
The gas stove vs electric stove convo makes me giggle bc i have absolutely no idea how to use a gas stove, electric is just like a press a button system and also gas scares me
Its so easy using both to be fair. I have had both and gas certainly makes cooking faster. But like there is just something so cool about an electric stove with touch. Like you just press the on button and then hit the + or - sign on whatever of them you will use and thats it. So so easy. And a gas stove is just turning the knop and make it start. But it is easier to have something catch fire with a gas stove. 😑 I had a gas stove once that you needed a light to get going, because the automatic lit thingy did not work, THAT was a nightmare 🤣🤣
I moved in the pouring rain once!! It was awful. It was me and my friend but luckily we had my mom, her mom and step dad and her dad. If it was just us two it would have been awful to try to move in the rain.
My current location this was my trade off: 675sft, rent controlled, newly renovated unit, dishwasher in unit, utilities included, amazing location (right at Yonge and bloor which is the major downtown Toronto intersection in Canada and close to transit) and great layout. The downside? Laundry downstairs (still in building!) and the building itself doesn’t have amenities like a gym or pool or visitor parking. However in toronto parking isn’t as important as it is in LA. Another downside I discovered while living here is my neighbours kid screams but I only hear it sometimes.
I relate to the moving in the rain so much! Every time I moved (each year after the lease ended), it always ended up raining. Even rescheduled once to move a day earlier because it wasn't supposed to rain, and then it rained BOTH days. so upsetting, since you're wet and sweaty
I love the podcast and you guys but I feel like lately it does not feel as fluid as before. It starts to feel like an interview in a way instead of a casual conversation if that makes sense at all. I sense a little less excitement (?) or hype I don’t know the word in English, I hope you are all doing ok and it’s just my perception. My dorm experience was not great the first time. My roommate hated the fact that I watched anime, and at the time, fan service was the norm. He saw me watching and said ill go to hell for watching before i could explain it's not porn. He started locking me out of my room when i went to the common shower dorms, or anytime i was outside. His/Her passive aggressive christian value driven ways to make me and my other roomies lives made us miserable. Good thing was, he left.
My boyfriend and I had "Competition Underwear" when we were in an apartment without laundry. We sneakily started buying more underwear because the first one to run out had to do the laundry. We both ended up with drawers full of underwear and it was years before we had to start buying again😃
No favorites among the YCSWU (world's worst acronym, but I am a bad typist) group but even with only 3 present Rainie kept the convo moving and interesting. IDEA for Becky's wild child. Wear him/her out with toys and lots of interactive play. In Denmark, most stoves a eclectic and most of them are with a touch panel. I have only had 1 gas stove my entire life and it did not work well. We needed a lighter to get it to light 🤣 Though sadly I dont have a washer, dryer OR a dish washer in my apartment, which is fairly common as well, considering its an old apartment I live in. It does have the room for it, but we have a washer and dryers in the basement and its way cheaper to use them, than to get my own. I do want a dish washer though. I hate cleaning dirty dishes. 🤣🤣

Most of the US uses gas stoves. Electric stoves are mandatory if you live in a high rise. Electric stoves are seen as extremely inefficient with slow cook times, hard to keep clean, and very expensive as gas bills are really cheap compared to our electric bills. I have one friend with an electric stove and she literally pulls out a small propane tank and uses this for her coffee, eggs, and smaller items when cooking. Electric takes forever. If you cook on gas, you won’t go back to electric, trust me.
EXACTLY what I came here to look if anyone had commented about and was gonna comment on myself! The concept of gas stoves is so crazy and scary to me and I’ve only ever seen it once in a house… and that time I was terrified to use the stove and I will never cook in our caravan on my own and am always terrified about the gas tank… like, it’s just scary. Also, by having electrical, you can actually start to use the stove earlier as a kid without having to deal with freaking fire !! And the induction stoves are super quick and also turn off if nothing is on it and won’t start if you don’t have the correct type of pots and pans, so even less having to deal with fire

I’m 24. I moved dorms/apartments all four years in college. I moved states for grad school and now I moved states and apts for my new first job. I was rushed to look so I’ll be moving again in August. That makes every year for six years and I’m actually lowkey over it. I’m ready to just be somewhere for a hot sec but I’ll never be able to afford a home. What a bummer
I feel this so much. It’s exhausting. I wish I could have told 24 year old me to just buy a trailer or crappy condo as soon as I could. There will still be a lot of the negatives that come with renting, but at least I could hang up a damn shelf.
I am from Hong Kong, and hearing you guys say that 500 sq feet is too small for a two bedroom is... :( Our average living space per person is only 170 sq feet
once when i left an apartment they tried to charge me more then my deposit! but they had marked down that I paid less then i did and then one of the charged items was "broken blinds" thankfully i still had my checkin list because those blinds where broken when i moved in! It got fixed and i got a good portion of my deopsit back. this was the only place I had trouble getting most of my deposit back. I was so mad because they had stuff like "clened fridge" which i had done... i guess i must be a terrible cleaner?!?!
Its very common where I am from that if you do not clean it well, then they will hire a cleaning crew and take it out of your deposit. And they will always hire a painter to paint, so thats basically your whole deposit anyways. 🤣 My sister and her boyfriend lived in a complete new apartment, as the first people and only lived there 6 months. They lost their whole deposit because it needed to be re-painted for some reason 😂😂😂

As an autistic person i would probably have to drop out after less then a week, because sharing a room with one, or more strangers sounds like one of the worst situations i could possibly imagine. I was a LAX girl for exactly 2 months (before a recurring staph infection took me out). We didn't get any special treatment at the school we attended, but part of that is because of the fundmenalist Christian assumption that all female athletes are... Well... Loose. The boys, on the other hand... Btw: it was a religious school, but it was at odds with the surrounding community because it was "godlessly liberal."

When I was a freshman in college, our laundry room was attached to the building across from ours. Going back and forth wasn't a big deal... Until you had to run back to your building in the middle of the night, holding your overly full laundry hamper by the one unbroken handle, because the skunks are out feeding 😂🦨

It took a couple months, but I eventually adjusted to a glass top electric stove. I actually wouldn’t want to go back. Cleaning is so much easier
