Amidst the huge quantities of manequin influencers and clickbait, it is genuine content like this that is the reason why I still use RUclips every day.
Thanks for acknowledging all of the extra effort that I've been putting into the videos. The next video has a 3 camera shot set up in it I'm getting the audio figured out pretty soon too. I've been trying to get a samson Qu2, but everyone has on backorder. I have a zoom h4n pro, and a couple of behringer pieces coming too. Hopefully it makes a noticeable impact.
@@missingpartsclub The videos have been getting better and better, the quality of this one was really great, you're extremely talented and good at what you do! keep up the good work man, I'll be watching every step of the way :DD
Plz don't stop this series. As an engineer myself I would like to see how this creation proceeds and what could you implant next. You know there's always a way for improvement. BTW I am a software engineer. That was just for those who are concerned.
This is not only impressive for the fact that it is precise work, but the fact you are doing it with one set of fingers. I love seeing amputees who don't allow their loss to hold them back. My cousin lost his arm in a car accident and continues to play 5 string slap bass and drums. I've been working on a prosthetic for him and your channel is pure inspiration
Austin Playz It said @OnlyBetterThings posted it 22 hours ago when I commented mine but for you it said 21 hours so if my math is correct you posted it 1 hour later
*Bruh this guy comming out of quarantine being iron man* *While i come out of quarantine being 69kgs heavier* Edit: i made it 69kgs bcz ppl said 5was too low :(:
I'm also 5kgs heavier, but most of that weight is hair that hasn't been cut or waxed for several months. He's coming out of quarantine like Luke Skywalker and I'm coming out of it like Chewbacca.
This is really inspiring. Something bad happened to your hand and you lost your 4 fingers on one hand. But you didn’t give up and used your other 6 fingers to fix that problem. Hopefully you will be able to grab and do things with your hand again soon!
The thing I like most about this is how you decided to embrace what happened and do your best. It’s honestly really inspirational, and I hope this channel helps others who are dealing with similar disabilities.
Totally, and remember it's not just my hand I'm dealing with. I have multiple myeloma as well (terminal blood cancer) and have to do chemo every other week. The suck is huge, but I proudly embrace it daily!
Your work is nothing short of breathtaking. That you have seized what happened to you as an opportunity to build your own prosthetics just amazing. Bravo.
This is genuinely cool as hell, when it's done you should put some paint on it to either make it looks really cybernetic, a color scheme, or make it look like skin.
Hey Ian, I just have to say this is the coolest and most inspirational thing i have ever seen in my entire life. You really show anything is possible, not to mention ur like a real life iron man. Seriously keep it up man you r the greatest RUclipsr I have ever seen. Subscribed!!!
Wow I didn't even think you could cut gears that way I audibly said "no way" when it started cutting. This is an awesome series and can't wait to see more!
I've seen this done with a machine tap in a lathe to cut worm gears that use ordinary screws for the worm. Doesn't make a great worm gear reduction but it's perfect for cheap screw adjusters, etc.
This is amazing and really helpful. I'm building a hand like this for my grandpa that lost two of his fingers a few years back. Thought this would be a great present for him! Some parts are pretty iffy, but if I keep at it hopefully some luck will flow my way :D Thank you so much Ian!
People making exclusive content on their patreon of stupid things and this guys comes and teaches you how to build your own prosthetic hand with no hesitation about it, mind blowing
Thanks, I'm kind of blown away with it myself that anyone outside of my circle of friends would be interested in it. Forever it was just my friends that lived outside the valley that were subscribed, then it exploded! Super cool!
Hey Ian, I’m glad to see you took that communications major’s advice with the titling, but I’d like to make a little suggestion to tweak them. I think you should shorten them a bit to make them more widely accessible, like instead of saying “How to make tiny brass gears for my prosthetic hand” you could say “How to make your own brass gears || Another update on my prosthetic hand”
All you’d really have to do is replace some of the steel with brass and copper or give it a pray coating in the right colour then replace some of the structural parts of the hand, the stuff that only serves as framing for the articulated parts, with wood.
Have you seen the prosthetic arms and hands they’re making now that are actually hooked up with electrodes to stimulate muscles to and from the prosthetic so that not only can the wearer control the arm via the muscles that would normally have been used in conjunction with hand movements but also allowing the wearer to actually feel touch when touching something with the prosthetic. Crazy stuff.
Bro, this awesome. Building your own prosthetic hand. A very awesome feat. Those older brass gears looked like they had a bit a wear which is to be expected. Why dont you cut some new gears out of some 7075 or tool steal and the harden them instead of using brass? You seem to be a maker of sorts at the least so i'd imagine that you'll be using that hand alot and probably need a bit of torque and strength. Prototyping and all so i understand the use of cheaper materials at the start. I was just wondering. Keep up the work man. This is super awesome. Glad your not 3d printing it out of plastic.
Can't wait to see this when it's done, this is insane

Honestly, I don't think he'll ever be completely done! Not only is this engeneering it's a wonderful art! It'll only get better and even more amazing!
