honestly surprised, how cool Jason sounds in Frontiers. His lines just go so much well with the game's combat

Ofc, growing up with jason griffith was a natural treasure, once we reached unleashed we heard the sonic and maturity in his voice, he didnt sound whiny or too old… to me his IS Sonic

Trust me, Jason's acting in games like Secret Rings and Unleashed REALLY showcase his best work. I still don't think there will be a Sonic quite like him, but Roger still does a great job in portraying this older Sonic.
Jason just fits the game he is Sonic and he showed genuine care in his voice he had a unique sound to Sonic that can't be described

I fully agree. The voice of Sonic and Shadow I grew up with. From Sonic X to the games was a big jump. Why did Sega replace all the original Sonic X cast save for the veteran Mike Pollock? Shame on you, Sega of America!

This makes me wish a Ryan Drummond and Jason Griffith voice pack was an official thing. But I know Sega's not cool enough to do that.
I'm pretty sure that would actually be more trouble than that's worth, considering they'd have to actually hire them again..
Plus, it would make the game take longer to develop when you could just have, I dunno, one voice actor?
And only fans would really appreciate that

Jason Griffith will always be my favorite. I'm curious if someone would ever make a Ben Schwartz voice mod though. That would be kinda interesting to see. If that is something already made, someone please let me know.

Jason was the best at breathing life not only into Sonic’s dialogue during cutscenes, but also his actions during gameplay. Couple grunts and exclamations done well go a long way

Man sega needs to make a DLC that allows you to pick your favorite sonic voice actor just like this it would be extremely awesome
That would require actually contracting Ryan Drummond and Jason Griffith. More budget and time just solely for that. Even just with preexisting voice clips that would at least require some form of agreement.

I'd agree with this but the microphone quality and just the cheesy lines feel really dated nowadays.

the thing is, Ryan drummond's take on sonic does not fit the current model we have for him. at least, in my personal opinion.
I like Ryan Drummond in this a lot, very fitting. BUT, during the combat I don’t think there needs to be so many voice clips like “You’re mine!”. It just starts to sound like fans sprinkling whatever they can find to cover as much as they can. Less is more sometimes.

Regarding that second last sentence, that's exactly what happened. Roger as Sonic in this game has like 80 voice clips for grunting, while Ryan, having only 3 games to work with, has like less than 10.
I made this at the VERY start of Frontiers modding, this was the 2nd ever voice mod, so there was absolutely no documentation on which of Sonic's voice clips were for which purpose. As far I know, there still isn't. I just had to listen and try and remember where I heard the clip in normal gameplay. If I knew what went where, I would have went for a different approach.
Ryan's gameplay sounds had to use so many of those "war-cries" because that's literally the only stuff that Ryan recorded during his time as Sonic which would work. In SA1-Heroes, Sonic doesn't really make any punching grunts or stuff like that. Jason atleast has like 5 years and countless games as Sonic, so the guy making that probably had a much easier time. With Ryan I had 3 games to work with, unless I wanted to try using the two GBA games with compressed audio, and I decided against that due to quality.
@@milesfernando Ah I see. In fairness, I think 10 is enough. Like you said, 3 games. This is only one game. I think if sometimes when he he does something there’s no grunt at all, or you cleverly use quieter grunts, it will be fine. A lot of the fighting is repetitive actions so they don’t all need to sound super distinct from each other all the time. I might have to create an example of what I mean tho.

And yeah I almost thought of the GBA approach and then I realized… compressed audio. Would be cool if someday we got raw uncompressed versions of those.
@@milesfernando I actually spent time and tried creating a key for all the sounds. It’s not fully complete yet, but it can be found in the modding support section on the Hedgehog Engine discord.

Maybe I'll even use this mod at some point for nostalgia's sake, but Roger's delivery for the base game still has my respect.
He's always just sounded like a grown up Sonic whereas the others stick closer to the Jaleel White voice which would fit Classic Sonic if they would just let him speak and give that role to Ryan Drummond. Plus Jason Griffith is a far better Shadow than Sonic anyway.

@@mr.awesome6011 yea, if you notice something about the 2010s era Sonic, he’s become way less hyperactive compared to the previous 2 Sonic’s in the SADX and 06 eras. While faster and stronger than ever, he isn’t constantly itching for action, which does add a nice new change to his personalitt

Ryan was good for "cool dude with attitude" Sonic. Jason was good for the slightly older l, more mature "good guy" Sonic. Roger... he's better than he's ever been, but he still sounds too old for Sonic. At least he now has good writing and voice direction backing him now, but he's no Jason or Ryan.

Honestly Jason's voice acting actually suits sonic because it's actually adds character development and shows sonics personality and it makes sonic sound like he's in his 17 - 20 ages and not some immature teenager.

It's pretty close between Ryan and Jason. They both captured Sonic's character so well.

Tbh, I like all three of them for different reasons.
Roger Craig Smith- He makes Sonic sound mature yet spirited and funny. (5 out of 7 Chaos Emeralds)
Ryan Drummond- Brought out Sonic's sassy, rebellious, energetic, cocky, yet heroic attitude. His voice for the character improved in Emi's Sonic and Tails R series. (6.5 out of 7 Chaos Emeralds)
Jason Griffith- In my personal opinion, he's perfect as the blueberry muffin speedster! Laid-back, confident, friendly, optimistic, feisty, smooth as liquid chocolate, and cool. He'll always be Sonic in my heart. (7 Chaos Emeralds = Blonde Form)

Ryan was the fucking best man. The right amount of attitude, charisma, tone, all of it. Perfect. Granted if he had better direction from Sega, peoples opinion would be different.

I have to be honest in previous sonic games Roger sounded cringe with sonic but it seems (probably due to actual good writers ) that in frontiers he sounds much more serious and mature which fits frontiers so well you could hear the emotions from him and i was honestly gobsmacked

I remember the Sonic 06 E3 trailer and Titanic Plain level from Black Knight being the closest we got to the type of environment that Frontiers is set in, with forests and large open areas of green grass, and we finally have it.

Hi, I made the Drummond mod. Ryan didn't actually record many new "effort" lines, like punching grunts etc.
I considered contacting Emi about it, though.
Roger Craig Smith's voice of sonic gives me some combination between boom sonic and Jason Griffith's sonic even feels natural with I like the most. My only complaint that he made sonic sound older which I don't like the idea had to go through. For several reasons why. That's the issue kind of problem with the "older", it could have been at least using his old voice from 2010's without getting crap writing which I'm glad ian Flynn took over.
Until then, I still want max mittelman to take over as sonic in the future.

Don’t get me wrong, the current cast is very good and I put them above the 4kids cast. Its just I feel like the adventure cast wasnt given the opportunity to truly shine. Adventure 1 was before video game voice acting was taken seriously. While Adventure 2 gave them more, Heroes was quite low key and limited them.

I think it would’ve been fitting if Sonic said something like “whoo!” or “whoohoo!” in his Jason voice when he does the loop kick, or like a grunt during mid-loop before a “heyaaa!” for when he launches himself for the kick.

I love J.Griff, but they picked some of the worst clips to use from him for this mod. There's a reason why RCS only had grunts and no dialogue, takes away from the atmosphere.

Jason seems to be most people's favorite, but I'll always give my edge to Ryan for the high energy and confident aloofness that fits Sonic so well to me.

Don't get me wrong I like Roger Craig too but he makes sonic more goofier and little more mature on Sonic frontier I love it so much. I wish it could stay that way.
Jason Griffith is always be my favourite voice of Sonic, Shadow and Jet at the same time along with Amy Palant, Lisa Ortiz, Dan Green and Mike Pollock. So please, Sega come back to reprise their roles of Sonic and rest of the characters.
