I played the JR. PAC-MAN arcade machine for the first time in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the Trump Taj Mahal video arcade room in 1994. JR. PAC-MAN is my all time favorite arcade game. I've only seen four JR. PAC-MAN arcade machines in person in my life. Three of them were in normal speed and one of them was in turbo speed. JR. PAC-MAN is the best one in the Pac-Man game series. The JR. PAC-MAN arcade machine is hard to find these days.
I played Jr. Pac-Man back then when I was a kid. I also played Super Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man with the pinball machine back then too. They were great variations of the original Pac-Man game.
The Jr. Pac intro screen was really cool looking in 1983. Wow, Inky could be rendered going behind the bridge railing! Today I look at it as another triumph from General Computer. Also, making Jr. Pac off of old Mappy units made a lot of sense as the hardware had to do a similar thing, namely a sidescrolling game board about 2x screen width.
You did! That one's called "Baby Pac-Man", not "Jr. Pac-Man".... if you search here on our channel, we have a Baby Pac-Man video up, it's a pretty cool game :)
I once saw and played one of these at a campground SOMEWHERE on a cross country RV trip my family took in the Summer of '97 from New England to Florida to Wyoming and back. We stayed at over 20 different campgrounds so I have no idea where we were, but I remember they had this, Mario Bros, and lots of other games that seemed really strange to me at the time as I'd just left my Nintendo 64 back at home
Those campgrounds were always a little out of date, LOL It wasn't on I-77 near the Virginia NC border was it??? The campground there had a whole pavillion full of games!
@@LyonsArcade I was ten years old so I don't remember our exact route, for some reason I'm thinking it was closer to the Kansas City, Missouri area. It was nearly a two month long trip across the entire USA and so many little things stick out.
I also remember on that trip watching 'The Shining' for the first time at an RV campground where the river by the campground nearly flooded the same night, and at another campground I remember watching Hulk Hogan defeat Lex Luger at the WCW Road Wild pay-per-view for the World Championship. I also remember that trip being the first time I really saw David Letterman's shows. The best part of those campgrounds though were definitely meeting kids from all over the country, playing basketball, getting into fights, lol, every day was something totally different. And we were always pumped when the campground had an arcade room lol
I remember playing Jr. Pac-Man on an arcade cabinet at the Pastime Tavern in Dallas when I was a kid, circa 1990. Interesting fact...Namco (the original IP holder for the Pac-Man franchise) cut Midway off from its partnership agreement after they released Jr. Pac-Man and, later on, Baby Pac-Man. Ms. Pac-Man would eventually be accepted into the Namco stable because, according to a quote, Pac-Man needed a wife!
Jr. Pac-man is actually great with the speed up chip, the game on the original speed is like waiting to go home from work, also it's harder than the original and ms pac-man
Yep, the tricycle changes the dots from 10 to 100 points. Very lucrative! But they slow you down a bit. Probably wouldn't matter so much with the speed mod running :)
If you don't get tricycle it will blow up a power pellet. I've seen it in MAME. Videos are fun and informative. Try it one time if you have a machine available. I like the speed hack, it makes the game easier.
I was going to say hay wait a minute where's the pinball part of the game. But then realized that's pac man Jr not baby pac man. But also realizing I never seen a junior Pac-Man before.
I don't think I've seen this game in the arcades; at least the ones I been to. I do agree about the speed on this one. Its way to fast. If I was to own one of these kits; I would want the normal speed version so it is more playable. If I would ever be able to own a Jr. Pacman; I would get the kit that would go into a Ms PacMan cabinet so that the front would be uniform and it would be a next generation of Ms PacMan in my collection :)). I notice to; that the Galaxian game cabinets are the same as the Pac Man cabinets and wondered if the kit would be compatible for a Galaxian cabinet so that way the Pac Man jr. would be white with the green trim on the front. That would be something to check out. :))
The wiring is slightly different on Pac-Man and Galaxian, but there are only a few wires that are different, you could move the wires around slightly on the edge connector and then yes you could slide a Jr. Pac-Man board right into a Galaxian.
What do you mean, the first ones had a pattern on them and you could play it all day, they finally fixed the glitch! Oh never mind that was regular pac man!
the only way to play this is the fast setting. On regular speed, by the third screen it gets impossible. Once you get used to the speed, then the game gets really good. been playing it for months
this game was unique because it was much more challenging then Mrs. Pac-man and Pac-man due to the much larger side scrolling maze. Super Pac-man did has some created idea's instead of being a just a re-hush. Pac-Man Plus I don't consider a sequel because it just a modified version of Pac-Man.
I think the larger maze really made it stand out but it unfortunate that it wasn't so successful as the first 2 PAC-MAN games due to being late in the game and not many people were crazy about Super and Baby Pac-Man.
You definitely have a speed mod version. The original arcade was nowhere near that fast. Pac Man and Mrs. Pac Man have a similar speed mod version too.
omg i love this game shoud probly play it agian some time but yeah so in this game the bonus items can kill the power pellits wich is wierd but oh well im not complaling casue im not playing the game now am i so yeah happy birthday to scooby doo hanna barbera sesame street pac man soinc the hedgehog and ed edd and eddy
It’s actually when they are coming out of a turn or their “home” and you also walk their at the same time. It’s more common on a fast mod cause it goes faster.
I don’t think it is fast (that has anything to do with it), it seems to be what direction their eyeballs are at .. so I try really hard to keep that in my brain - always keep playing even if you think you are about to die. as sometimes ya don’t, but unless u know, most usually die a split second after. I don’t like the speed version on this title. much too hard to navigate the mazes, and the larger dots slow you down thing (in regular speed mode) really changes up the gameplay. not as noticeable a difference in speed mode. the GCC peeps must have added a random seed to whether or not the fruit makes the power pellets explode, .. or maybe it has got to do with a timeout (length [time or distance] it has been trudging around the maze .. or how many dots it has made bigger perhaps). really hate the intro graphics and cut scenes. very ugly. they should re-release it with better. one day.
Thank you for the correction Ed. By the way, you misspelled "Pac-Man" , just thought I'd point that out since we're getting all careful about our words.
You're welcome! I actually didn't misspell "Pac-Man". My tablet's autocorrect (mis)feature changed it, and I unfortunately and neglectfully didn't notice. The end result was a misspelling, I admit. However, I appreciate you pointing it out, and I've edited my previous post to correct the spelling.
No matter what happens, I just can't bring myself to like this game. I've heard Midway took the Mappy machines they had laying around, seeing as it didn't sell well here in America, and butchered the cabinets into Jr Pac's, against Namco's will- and Mappy is my favorite game, I've been hunting for a cabinet of it for years with no luck. Just made me upset to know that my favorite game was made even more rare for this.

I played in that arcade as well when I took breaks from playing 10/20 Stud.

Very nicely put together video and very entertaining as well. Thanks for posting this.

I never thought about the attract screen being revolutionary at the time, that's pretty cool now that you bring it up.
I love the variety of the mazes in jr pac man. Plus, there is the challenge of the special item attacking the power pellets.
This brings back happy Arcade memories..Thanks
It's a cool game, I always liked it!
Just played this for the first time today at the Rocky Rococo's in Madison Wisconsin! It even had the fast mod on it. So much fun!
very cool, great game... and Rocky Rococo's is a great name :)
It's at Aftershock Arcade in Madison now
back in the day across from the church at the t shirt shop .....in baton rouge , la ....
Very cool, they had it in a t-shirt shop!
I wan't a JR or Super Pac Man. Very under rated.
Yeah, the lost Pac games.....
Agreed! I still love Super Pac-man.
Geeeez, that’s fast! Don’t blink!
Gotta get those quarters :)
Jr Pac Man story was like Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet died at the end though!
I could swear I once played a version of this had had a tiny little miniature pinball table under the screen.
You did! That one's called "Baby Pac-Man", not "Jr. Pac-Man".... if you search here on our channel, we have a Baby Pac-Man video up, it's a pretty cool game :)

Yeah slowing down would help some :)
I can tell your addicted to playing jr pac man?😆

Thanks Willaim I've never seen it do that, that's pretty cool :)
I was going to say hay wait a minute where's the pinball part of the game.
But then realized that's pac man Jr not baby pac man.
But also realizing I never seen a junior Pac-Man before.
I wish I had the original cabinet in to film a video of.
This was a fast Pac Man game , Good gameplay !
That's the sharpest cab idea I've seen, I love it.
Pretty cool stuff :)
@0:21 - did you really mean to say "MRS. Pac-Man" or are you just seeing if we caught that?
I usually saw it in a MAPPY cabinet online
The only time I've played Jr. Pac-Man on metal was on a 2600.
Haha, that's different though!
True. ;)
I like Bob DeCrescenzo's homebrew port on the Atari 7800.
cool one i enjoy it

Yeah I was talking about the original Pac-Man, there was a pattern you could play non stop if you had the pattern memorized :)
29:38 Congratulations !!
Highest Score:
33250
Go for the world record now !
LOL
What I didn't like of Jr PacMan was the speed. To fast to handle. May be you can manipulate the speed in the settings. It's a fun game.
muito legal
Thank you Friend!
the only way to play this is the fast setting. On regular speed, by the third screen it gets impossible. Once you get used to the speed, then the game gets really good. been playing it for months
Isn’t the orange ghost named Clyde?
Maybe!

Yeah I think I like this the best out of the few other Pac-Man games. The big maze is kind of fun.

I wonder, is it possible to disable the speed mod?
You can't turn it on and off but you can change one eprom to make it back to the normal speed.
Why did Blinky call his daughter Yum-Yum though?

I have think there’s a code that you can do with the joystick and the buttons and you can change the speed of pac man and ms pac man not sure about jr
3 Dislikes? 😕 Must've been The Ghosts...and Tim probably didn't like it either. 😉
I got haters man, the higher up the ladder the more arrows people shoot at you :)
@@LyonsArcade If RUclipsrs gets haters, it's a solid proof that they are doing something right, and that they are good at it. 😊
Still available for sale?
Sorry James, we sold it quite awhile ago.
Super Pac-Man was kind of a terrible game--Jr. Pac-Man was much better. Definitely an upgrade.
Yes I definitely like Jr. a lot, very fun.
JR. PAC-MAN is my most favorite video game ever.
There’s a glitch in all of the pac man games where you can walk through a ghost if your fast enough
I've done it before accidentally but never could figure it out.
It’s actually when they are coming out of a turn or their “home” and you also walk their at the same time. It’s more common on a fast mod cause it goes faster.

this is definitely not normal speed for sure
Yup, it was a BIT fast, lol
Why do so many people mispronounce the "Ms." in Ms. Pac-Man? I'm genuinely curious. Is it a regional thing? It's pronounced "mizz", not "miss".
