    I did a complete restoration of one of these back in 2015. It included replacement of the woodgrain vinyl, the marquee, and a repro of the powder coated/silkscreened CP. It was some of my best work and I regret ever selling it. :(

    I remember one day, I was playing the Arcade Game Series version of the original PAC-MAN on my PS4, my dad once told me that when he was a teenager in the early 80s, he loved to play Defender and PAC-MAN, but he loved more PAC-MAN (he only could do to level 2 or 3), and he told me that he remembers the machine looking like the one showed in the video

    I was 9 years old when this was released. I remember our local Convenient food mart had one in 1980. Once I was watching some teenagers play it and I couldn’t figure out if they were controlling the little yellow thing or the ghosts.

    The laminate looks like the same color I used to restore my Ms. Pac-Man cocktail table. It's called Nepal Teak by Wilsonart. I couldn't find anything closer to the original veneer and this seemed like a good compromise.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 года назад +1

      Yup that's probably the same stuff, basically it's hard to find the right stuff that's wide enough to fit, you can get shelf paper and things but it's too narrow. Somebody has a market waiting for them if they ever figure it out, all these woodgrain cabinets need it! Thanks for watching Tony!

    One of the best coin-ops ever. Timeless classic. She's playing smooth for sure. Very nice cab.
    I get a little competitive with myself but nothing crazy. It's fun to create your own patterns that work. It's fun to just make up moves as you go. Like you mentioned in vid.. It's just fun!

  • @jupreindeer
    @jupreindeer 2 года назад +3

    Precisely. The best way to play Pac-Man is to play it for fun. After all, the early, limited technology leaves the game with a few patterns that once memorized, make the game almost impossible to lose at. But, if you are playing to memorize those hand full of patterns...then what's the point? There's no hope in besting the world record scores, thanks to the Kill Screen. It just becomes an endurance test and little more. But, if you resist outthinking the game, then you can have fun with it. And that's the point.
    BTW: Proud owner of a Ms. Pac cocktail via the A1U format. Play it whenever I get the chance to. And none of the headaches of trying to keep 40 year old electronics alive. It's close enough for me.

    if you'd listen to everyone, telling you what to do, you'd have hundrets of conflicting things to do. Does not sound very practical.. And if someone thinks you're not funny, i fear they have to go somewhere else where no jokes are told, or only the kind that person appreciates. Which is the polite version of "Eff you, get lost!" *lol* Maybe it's old news to you but just recently i heard of the Pac Man glitch where you jiggle the joystick around wildly and the ghosts get confused by it, don't know where you'd go next and just freeze or something *lol* I have a feeling like i'm the last person to have found that out o-o It's always nice to see one of those old arcade games still being alive and bringing fun :D When I first saw it i thought: Oh that's cute! Does it still grow? ^^; Thanks for showing it to us!

    Oh, PACMAN, another game played thoroughly in the early 80's. As far as I can remember I always sucked at this game regardless
    of the ridiculous number of coins I spent. =)
    BUT, I enjoyed it anyway. I especially remember a trip my family and extended family took to Greece, 1981-1983, can't rember too sure
    but the hotel had this exact rendition of PACMAN in the reception area. I spent more time at the PACMAN game than in the sun.
    Sad to think about now but back then, a whole different story.

    I am just going to upset some people and say it. Pac-Man is the GOAT. No other arcade game captures the time that was the 1980's with the ferociousness of Pac-Man. I was ten years old when Pac-Man was introduced. I realize many folks are far younger and don't know what it was like to walk up to a Pac-Man in 1980 after mooching some quarters from their mom. There were books, music albums, cartoons, breakfast cereal, bed sheets lunch boxes and more. It infiltrated our culture and our psyche. That is why after forty plus years you can still go to Walmart and buy Pac-Man. Back in the day, I played a cabaret Pac-Man at Fred Meyers in Gresham Oregon. That was when every store had an arcade or at least an area dedicated to hold some arcade games. My grandmother used to take me to Wonderland Arcade off 102nd & Glisan Street in Portland Oregon. They had a cabaret Pac-Man and my grandmother would play it with me. Unlike the full size cabinets the cabarets were made of particle board which is one reason it is harder to find survivors. I am blessed to have a Cabaret Pac-Man in my collection. I traded a team play, Centipede, Millipede, Missile Command, Lets go bowling game for it. A super cool Pac-Man fun fact is the Bezel says the strawberry is worth 200 points. It yields 300 points in the game! Of the twelve games in my collection, five of them are Pac-man games. Warms my heart to see that pretty little cabaret still being awesome! I am certain it will find a wonderful new home!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 года назад +1

      None of those points can really be argued with because of the effect it had on culture like you mentioned... somebody could I suppose argue Space Invaders was a big deal too and before Pac-Man but there was no marketing or anything that resulted from it at the time, I think Pac-Man had a much bigger and certainly a longer lasting effect, we still get people DAILY asking for Pac-Man. I literally had a woman last night open the front door, lean in and say "do you have Pac-Man?" I get that every day and it's 2021. I mean it's just a fact, you can't even argue with it, Pac-Man is the greatest game ever made. Thanks for watching as always Kelly!

      People really have some nerve man, the #1 thing to understand about my channel is it's just video games people, we're just having fun don't take everything so seriously :) I go out of my way not to mention serious stuff on the channel, I don't get into politics and all that crap on here because people like having things to watch and just have a good time, we're all just hanging out playing a damn Pac-man it's not that serious, LOL Thanks for watching SpicyMeatball glad you get it!

    Is Arcade halls still a thing in the USA? In my country Norway. The last nail in the coffin was that the government decided that arcade halls had to pay Value Added Tax (VAT). After that they had to pull the plug. That happen around mid 2000 I think.

    One of my local arcades has a cabaret Pac-Man cabinet, but it runs Ms. Pac-Man instead.

    Love how the ghosts have their own AI! Lot of thought went into the initial design and function of this game. Pentical game for its time. You stay classy Ron! We all love your sense of humor! Have a great day!

      You know...I used to think that these were some amazing AI's in play, too. The power of the internet showed me the ingenious trick used to make them so diverse inside of a few bytes of ROM space. It's so simple. Yet it works insanely well. So cleaver, in fact, that many Pac clones throughout the years didn't know how to recreate their 'intelligence'.

    This cab was in the laundromat my mom used to go to as a kid, I remember the graphics on the front panel. Why does Pac-Man have legs?

    You are awesome. Please don't act more professional and never stop having fun. I just bought an 8gb dram for my computer on amazon using you link. Just curious, does amazon tell you what we buy?

    Cool cabinet! The label inside the coin door says Ms. Pac Man. Is that not the original door?

      This cabinet was converted to a Ms. Pac-Man when we got it and we converted it back. Thanks for watching Chris!

    Great video Ron! I was never any good at Pac-Man. I would make you look like a CHAMP!!! I did like watching the other kids play though. The only game I could play was Punch-Out but I think everybody was good at that game. I have to stick to pinball which I am also bad at. What the heck, they’re all fun!!!
