    Interesting to see the UK still has those 4 barrier type crossings (or is adapting them?), in the Netherlands we had those for a while in a few places and decided to ditch the concept because too many got trapped inside because they were stupid... or the radar system for detecting people didn't work properly.

    A much better improvement from the originals. A bit more noisy than the old ones, but a lot more sturdier. At least they could preserve the older models at heritage railways in future...

    • @levelcrossingcreations3731

      Lol they certainly won't preserve them. There is not enough interest in just barriers themselves, like the MK1 barriers on the west of England line. They WONT be preserved

    I’ve been waiting to see an up-close video of this!
    I’ll admit, I had no idea about this new variant of the S60s until the other day so I was somewhat surprised when I first saw them. Those look a hell of a lot chunkier than the original S60 models.

    • @JTCrossingsUK
      @JTCrossingsUK  Месяц назад

      Yeah there certainly interesting aren’t they? I had no idea about them at all, first saw them when I got out my car last night. When I saw a photo of these barriers here I could only see the arms. So imagined that it had the same barriers as Lydney Junction and A48 bypass. And yeah so much different and sturdier looking. Perhaps much more wind resistant as we all know this crossing is not the best at coping with 🤣.

      Thanks mate, yes if you hear anything then let me know. This is bound to be the start of some if not all of the crossings on this line to get these. Can’t imagine they would do them all tbh. Although these crossings were originally installed around the same time in 2014 when they opened. Although I do think these are cool, quite surprised they didn’t want to upgrade it with SPX. And yeah I didn’t notice it was doing the tailring till the second to last closure.

  • @MGRinger02
    @MGRinger02 Месяц назад

    These look cool! These definitely seem more sturdier and robust than the 1st Generation models. Hopefully these are a lot more wind resistant too, given the nature and history of the area and the crossing (it's probably the reason why they were fitted here first tbf).

    • @JTCrossingsUK
      @JTCrossingsUK  Месяц назад

      Yeah I know right. I thought the exact same thing, except it was clear and lightly breezy when I was there. On this stretch of line you can literally hear freight trains approaching like 10 mins before they go off on a clear
      Night. And these barrier Mechs are still fitted with the fork so there’s maybe a chance that it will still be affected by the wind. Will have to wait and see. And yes that’s defo probably the reason why this one has been done first. How open the area is round there.

      Thanks matey, everything about these barriers are new. Was gob smacked when I first saw this, and saw how they operate. From the photo I was sent of this. Cos I could only see the barrier arms. I thought it got the same barriers as the Lydney crossings on the Dean Forest Railway.

    'Unusual'; 'Odd'; 'an Improvement'; 'Appalling'; 'a Disgrace'; 'Fat and Ugly'; 'Bizarre'; 'Weird'. Some of the descriptions of this crossing. I wonder why such diverse opinions. They are just barriers whose purpose is to save drivers from themselves.
    I wonder about the formula used to compute the 'down time'. They are, in seq. 2'43, 2'40, 2'07 and 1'35. Is daylight a factor? I can understand why a certain class of driver would wiggle through a half-barrier protection with these wait times.
    You realised that your camera wasn't up to handling the low light conditions. A suitable remedy was nearby. 😀

      @JTCrossingsUK I can kinds see why they replaced them because when you filmed this a few years ago it was on a right state so i suppose there more stronger now but its probably going to kill the motor on how heavy they are

    • @JTCrossingsUK
      @JTCrossingsUK  Месяц назад

      @@JPLCUKYeah this crossing was never the best at being able to cope with the wind. Never knew another crossing so appalling on this line lol. Got to have something to do with the fact this area is so open. But these barrier mechs will be designed different therefore able to handle the weight. There probably not as heavy as they look.

      @@levelcrossingcreations3731yeah they were, very flimsy. Think that’s why they weren’t spread out that much cos of there unreliability. One of the workers who did Rowston told me just after it got done that there were plans to upgrade every crossing in the UK with them barriers but that certainly aged quickly. Must of realised quite early on that they weren’t the best. And SPX are still the way forward haha.
