Yeah I wasn’t expecting to see that at all, also well surprised by how loud the alarms are, when we first saw it, I was like “OMG LOOK AT THAT” wonder how many more strange MWLS I’ll come across.
And the only one with outward facing sounders/alarms, put under the lights? All the other crossings have the alarms pointing into the crossing ~ mounted behind the wig-wags
It is an occupational farm crossing or similar where you have to inform the signaller that you wish to use it and thus they can tell you if you have to wait or what is the time til the next train. That is why the request is to phone first and then the lights will trip to warn you of an approaching train as they will set them to green when you phone if access is possible
The red and green lights are automatic, and are not controlled by the signaller “Use telephone if crossing with large or slow, low or long vehicles, or with animals” Although it does seem like you have to phone when crossing with most types of vehicles, you don’t have to phone when driving across in a car, and you also don’t have to phone if crossing as a pedestrian, although I don’t think this crossing would get much pedestrian traffic
Oh my god! When I saw a screenshot of this earlier, I thought it was fake for some reason. 😂 But no, it’s legit! What a unique crossing that is! Great video. 😁👍👍
I just realised that I literally live a few miles from this crossing and never noticed anything different about it when looking from York Road lol. Guess I'll have to look harder next time
It's an interesting gate level crossing. 😀 The sound of railroad crossings in England is similar to the sound of an ambulance in Japan😄. level crossings in Japan make a "pon♪pon♪" sound😄
@@freebrickproductions but when your close to them, there quite hard to see, and the typical ones are just as good if not better to see than these ones to see. The normal ones are certainly easier to see up close
It seems as though NR installed them because of this crash that happened a few or so years ago: www.gov.uk/government/news/raib-report-072016-collision-between-train-and-tractor
Damn, but then wasn't this also the crossing where someone missed the MSLs and got hit, with an RAIB report [07/2016] about it? Presumably that's why they put them there, I guess?
It'd be great if all the gate crossings were electric like this. No risk of someone starting to cross without opening the other gate. Much faster to open and close. Don't to walk back across to close the other gate. No temptation to not bother closing as it's just a button. Much safer all round.
I thought at first the manual gate was a backup in case the electric gate wasn't working. But then it looks like the manual crossing doesn't even link up with the road, it just goes to that field?

That is one unique crossing! Never thought I'd see rail signals used in place of regular red/green lights

Wish in my state in USA had these cool crossings
In the old days, I think manual crossing gates used to open inwards so they blocked the railway. They also had a red “bullseye” stuck on the gate.
That’s for manual gated crossings that are guarded by a crossing keeper, not Userwork crossings for people to use. That’ll be far too dangerous.
@@JTCrossingsUK 100%, in that scenario, if someone left the gates open they'd be ploughed out of the way by the next train

Extremely ultra rare that is with train signals, Nice find 👍
Thank you, and yeah I was well surprised when I first saw it.
Nice one mate, a very bizarre and unique crossing 😁
Thanks mate, and yeah it’s certainly something I didn’t expect to see, hope they use VMS signals one day lol
@@JTCrossingsUK Yeah, you can't call these MWLs either as they're far from miniature 😂
Great video! Interesting to see wayside signals in use here instead of the more typical mwls, lol.
It’s certainly something, I god knows what made NR install them, obviously got to be some reason haha.
@@JTCrossingsUK Maybe visibility reasons? After all, those use much larger lenses than a standard MWL signal.

Using train signals as MWLs, that is very bizarre and certainly something I never expected to see!
Me neither mate, when we got there, I was like “OMG LOOK AT THAT” presume some other people will visit it now lol.

It’s funny to think those lights also show yellow though it’s never used at mwl’s
Actually, where is this one?
Good video
Strange crossing but nice video the old one still works very rare crossing
3:15 Think that made you jump a bit 🙂 Seems like it's quite loud.
nice one joe a unique MSL There
Loud alarms!
is that using horns as the bell?
Neat! Shame they didn’t do this at Gelynis Farm!

Rail signals? They must have run out of normal signals there or just wanted to make this unique
It previously had the usual warning lights on foot crossings, but I presume after an accident that happened here they made it more clear? Not sure.
I wonder what this crossing used to look like back in the day…
Imagine being right at the gate when the alarm goes off...
I'd jump out of my skin and nearly pee myself like I do at other level crossings!
I actually quite like those bigger warning lights tbh
You never know, they might start spreading them out more now lol
@@JTCrossingsUK they may well do
That has Signals instead of the usual Dormans
really weird, its kind of like two crossings in one

They used railway signals 🤣
imagine if the green signal was on top lol

Unbelievable. The equipment seen in this video has been removed. Absolute joke.
Which bits have been removed?
@@adrianthoroughgood1191 The third set of lights, and the rare signals.
It’s not even the same crossing. It was re-located up the track. You can see where it currently was when the train is approaching at 3:45
