This is so amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t mind the cold when there is something to show for it, like snow. Toby was funny eating trees!
Yea, pretty incredible, definitely feeling for those in vans and tents without heating, which we've seen plenty of, so cold out there but stunningly beautiful
Oh thanks, I always say, i just make the kinds of videos that I want to watch. I don't really cater to anyone other than me lol, so we'd probably get a long well ha ha
We are pretty glad nothing broke in the frozen weather... Hopefully everything is still in good order and there isn't any slight damage being done... Was a great experience for sure.
Yea We are currently back in the area, camping in it for a 2nd time, but this time off grid, it sure is magic, nice to be in amongst the trees this time...
Once again awesome video and very. Stunning drone shot. It is beautiful the colours are amazing. Team Kawerau. BTW Brian goes to Auckland on Monday to get a guide dog. Keep the wonderful work Mike. And Soph and the kids
Oh your so welcome, such a great experience. Well done Brian, the Guide Dog will become your new Best friend. Will make those next adventures even more fun.
You guys likely get a bit of this kind of weather in Ohio aye? I imagine it gets cold there in winter... This is pretty unique for New Zealand, only a couple of places can pull this off.
Oh mate, I love the extremes of weather, if it's hot, cold, windy, rainy, I find it super interesting to experience... Although i don't want to see people lose their homes or vehicles etc, thats always tragic... I feel like if it's summer it should just be hot, if its winter, lets go cold.
Absolutely beautiful. Good to see you bought a generator and a portable solar blanket. We use a 130w portable panel for extra backup when needed works a treat but definitely won’t help in those foggy conditions. Soph’s tuffing it out…jandles 😮
ha ha, yip soph's tough as, was so cool being out there in that hoar frost, stunning. The generator is perfect and cheap solar blanket was only for the eco flow they sent it to me for free which was awesome.
Yea the lake is incredible the town only exists because if the hydro canals that took years to build and this is where they housed everyone. Pretty beautiful spot in summer and winter
Cheers mate, glad your enjoying the adventures. Pretty unique experience to be parked up in that frost, I think the locals are so used to it, it's no big deal, but to a lot of us, we've never experienced it before.
Ooh, love a bit of sublimation! So nice to see what's happening down in a different part of Aotearoa - thanks so much for that. As a Brit, I grew up not seeing the sun for sometimes weeks on end - even in summer, very depressing. But when it turns out this beautiful, it's worth it. Thanks to your Elephant Rock and the Three Sisters video, I went and visited them a few days ago while camping in the 'Naki; picked a blue sky day and got some great pics of them with Mount Taranaki in the background. So thanks for that recommendation guys! I'm driving back down to the office in Dunedin in August so might bump into you on the way down or the way back if you're still down there somewhere. Safe travels!
Oh cool Taranaki seems like such a warm place currently... We are back in the Hoar frost down South, freezing cold out there... But what a white beautiful landscape.
Oh thanks mate, youtube is a pretty saturated market, haven't even had 1 video that's done really well for views, but thats OK, I really enjoy making them
You probably thought this episode was boring being from Michigan, you guys probably get Hoar frost all winter long... I know it gets super icy there... Hope your got some good waves to ride on the lake bro.
@@leopardsgowild no it's nothing like that dude.. the air doesn't stay that moist in the winter here. The dry air wouldn't let it get that epic , we go get frosts but it's usually preceded or followed by snow
Love your enthusiasm for winter, what spectacular scenes! Kids had a blast too, poor Sophie 😂 looks like that small generator and extra solar pannel will be a good purchase
Winter is worth while when it does what winter does, thats for sure. try winter in Rotorua, damp, cold, cloudy... I much prefer, snow, ice and all day frost, as long as you get a decent summer still.
Some of my best memories of winter are in Twizel with freezing mornings getting up early ready to hit the slopes for skiing at Ohau, just a wonderful place to experience during this time of year.
Yea its magic alright... Not much snow up there yet only been one dumping really otherwise it's been frosty and clear... We are waiting for a nice big dumping of snow while we are in the caravan...
I'm with Sophe. As beautiful as that all is, the novelty would wear off pretty quick and I'd be looking forvthevsun again. I experienced more than enough freezing fog living in Scotland!
Definintely a tick off the bucket list for this trip, hopefully we'll get to camp properly in it before winter ends, apparently Twizel is frosty again which we are heading back to tomorrow.
What an adventure for you and your family. Can you tell me is there an app to help tell you the predictions of a Hoar Frost ? omg this is on my bucket list to see - thanks again.
Hey there, the Hoar frosts are only possible when the fog rolls in for days, and the temp doesn't rise above freezing, pretty stunning, I know this one rolled right into another one, but I don't think there has been one since. There is a keen photography that lives in Twizel, she posts mosts days and if the Frosts are fog and there, she normally lets people know, you could follow her on Facebook at Shellie Evans photography.
Great Video Mike! loved the stunning landscape and family having fun exploring the Twizel area, we were there in April and so cool to see the difference the frost makes. Does your diesel heater still work or is that frozen too?
Yea we got it defrosted, once we got it running gain its been good it runs all night Twizel is awesome and to think before the canals went in there was nothing there
Yeah nah the novelty wears off pretty bloody quick living in a hore frost...used to play rugby in that area and the ground was frozen so hard sprigs on boots were almost ineffective.
yea the locals said that had to go out and about every day in it, really didn't like it, those who were seeing it for the 1st or 2nd time, couldn't get enough of it. Part of the problem is so many people travel to the area when there is hoar frosts. Playing rugby, would be bloody awlful those tackles and going to grand would sting so bad.
Making me miss Twizel more and more. It's gorgeous there all year round.
I feel like this part of NZ must be one of the most beautiful. Mountains, snow, hard winters, hot summers, beautiful waters. Incredible.
A winter wonderland ! Magnificent !! The drone shots were special ...
Yea pretty special Tom. We are used to cold and boring winters, this is far more interesting
Picture postcard. Stunning. Toby takes after you. Loves the crazy weather 🥶🥶
Toby is one of the most outdoor kids ive ever meet, he loves the wilderness, and is always pointing things out to us. Such a cool kid.
This is so amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t mind the cold when there is something to show for it, like snow. Toby was funny eating trees!

so beautiful - love the drone footage…elevates the vlog too!
Yep pretty magical, I had no idea what the drone shots were going to be like they were so good.
Amazing videos Mike, just beautiful!!!
Hey Rose, yes pretty special place to be when this happens. So glad we got to capture it.
Love your vlogs and your accompanying music choices
Oh thanks, I always say, i just make the kinds of videos that I want to watch. I don't really cater to anyone other than me lol, so we'd probably get a long well ha ha
fantastic dronage - geez it looks cold. must have been hard when the pipes froze. Great to see everyone still smiling!
We are pretty glad nothing broke in the frozen weather... Hopefully everything is still in good order and there isn't any slight damage being done... Was a great experience for sure.
Beautiful 😍. It was a great event, thankful I could make it down there!
Yea We are currently back in the area, camping in it for a 2nd time, but this time off grid, it sure is magic, nice to be in amongst the trees this time...
I really enjoyed this video. Such an amazing time. Xxxx
Yep I was definitely in my happy place capturing it all, I just love it, winter wonderland.
Thanks guys, absolutely stunning
Its so cool here, very cold but magic and great to experience, it does take a few days of this freezing fog to bring out the thick fog though.

Stunning, thank you.
Yea blows my mind the beauty I love it. I guess the novelty would wear off for those living in it

Awesome video! Kids and I just watched 🙂 we cracked up at your frozen grey waste coming out of the pipe. Does Soph not own warm shoes?😂
Soph just got some shoes in Thursday so she should be good now... we kept all our pipes and tapes open so they wouldn't break by expanding
So pretty.
Oh yea, I was in my happy place for sure... We are back in Hoar frost yet again tonight. Its bloody cold out there..
I'm with Sophe. As beautiful as that all is, the novelty would wear off pretty quick and I'd be looking forvthevsun again. I experienced more than enough freezing fog living in Scotland!
Did it bring out the beauty on Scotland? Freezing fog is way better than just fog... looks like they might be in for more in Twizel
I think it's also the closed in feeling that fog gives you
When I was there 30 odd years ago it was a lot colder .....and during summer it was hot and dry .
Yip hoar frosts are not as common these days, only 2 lots this year
Amazing scenes, it's absolutely stunning! I'm not sure I'd want to be there in our little motorhome but I'm glad you were there for it.

What was the lowest temperature you saw in twizel?
-5 but apparently-11 at Omarama same day which is 30km down the road... lake Clearwater was our coldest at -7
@@leopardsgowildThanks. I wonder why Omarama is so cold because twizel is slightly higher in elevation 🤔
@Jordan-du6fu it's barely any difference in elevation, both by the big mountains and both rarely receive snow ❄️ interesting place

Have you had any pipes freeze and split under the caravan?
Is that a yes or no ?
They have frozen but not split at night we turn our pump off and open the taps
We have a snowy river and I was curious as we might head down there next year, last thing we need is split pipes
Where you at tonight
Did you stay at NZMCA tekapo?
