I couldn't even try to guess at how much time I have spent watching YT tutorials over the last 5 or 6 years... OR how much money I have spent paying for classes and buying all of the 'necessary' supplies just to have it all stored away in cabinets, bins, and drawers, not being used. I think the universe is trying to telling me something. I saw a video yesterday where the creator (new to me as of this week) was talking about the same thing... and said (something like) "the only paint that gets wasted is the paint that stays in the tube." Ouch!! And I am, apparently, not the only one who suffers from this problem! Though I don't find a whole lot of consolation in that fact. Thanks for the nudge. I am going to try and figure out a way to empty a corner somewhere as I think the biggest obstacle for me is not having a space to work in that is ready to go and doesn't require set-up/tear-down.
You have no idea how incredulous helpful this video is! I appreciate having the actual real-time example of how to start, what to do to overcome the “deer in headlights” feeling of trying to create. I love seeing and hearing your process. Thank you so much for sharing all this.
You are such a lovely person. Love your ideas, your art, the music you choose, your kind loving spirit. I have watched you for years. I've done ONE of the collages. Mostly I just like watching you. It's like therapy. Thank you for all of your hard work and courage and generosity. A beautiful beautiful soul.
Soooo inspiring as usual! I was taking notes as I watched the video. My favourite quote: "let it not be pretty!" That's true - our own expectations are often counterproductive and restricting. I'll remember that! Hope your finger heals quickly! xx
You are 100% right...none of my art would be something I'd buy but the process I would. I'm going on 20 months being a widow....my life has become a shit show...but I feel so free and better when I am doing anything art....thank you for your inspiration
I just have to repeat what others have said: this was such an informative and inspirational video. I don't know how many hours I have flittered away watching videos, just gathering ideas or techniques but unwilling to open my journal. Thank you so much!
Shawn, thank you so much for this - it's exactly what I needed! You are so inspirational to me, so talented and such a sweet and positive soul. I'm very grateful for all the effort you put into making your videos - thank you! ❤❤
I am absolutely so excited to join the club in September, because once a week, just isn’t enough! You inspire me in so many ways. I need/want more! Thank you 😊
I know how you feel about loss. I lost my husband on 2021 and my son took his life in 22. Then in 24 my sister passed from dementia. The lord is with me and Jesus and the Holy Spirit carry me every day. You are so inspirational and gives me want to paint to enjoy! Love to you! I pray for you too!❤
Thankyou Shawn for this inspiring video! You gave me much to think about. I’m never happy unless I absolutely love my finished page.😕 This always blocks me from creating. 😕 I want to learn to just make “ugly” pages and have fun!! ❤️ Your video has already helped me so much! TY!
Think of all the people who bless you for what you do. You are truly loved. You are genuine and I thank you for the heart you share with us. You are my angel today. Tomorrow I will show up.
I just want to say God puts people in your path i trully believe. To ight hw has put you in mine. I was sitting here feeling down, i have a full craft room that i just revamped. Right now i am feeling down feeling like everything is against me at every turn. My motivation has disappeared. I go and sit in my craft room and just look around. I have noone to share my passion for my crafts with me and i have noone who really appreciate a gift of my crafts. My family i dont know where it all went wrong but my life is not how i wanted it to be. I love to craft and to do things but i dont like to do everything alone. I am alone. Back to you i found you talking about what i needed to hear. Thank you and God bless
I can totally relate to what you're saying about using non-precious paper...it takes away the pressure to be perfect and allows you the freedom to just play...blessings Shawn
I love the way the shapes of the negative in the stencil echos the flower petals. And then your wall behind the flowers bloomed into ethereal curtains. I just found you tonight. So glad I did. I also collect ideas and inspiration and this is the right time to connect with you as I spent the entire day in my jammies on the couch. I am hoping I will wake in the morning and know that it's okay to not be okay and still "show up, make a mess, repeat". God sees us. God loves us. Thank you.
This video is particularly inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and inspiration with us! Questions - when you work in the composition book do you glue pages together? Like double them for strength? Do you gesso each page in the composition book? I know you say "just play" but I had what I now think was an unusual childhood and 'just playing' was not an acceptable answer to 'what are you doing?' so I have trouble with that concept. I'm struggling to let go of the idea that everything needs to mean something or have a tangible purpose. Your videos are so creative! Please don't stop making them. I see how much work it takes but please please keep sharing with us! As much as you are able anyway. Thank you
I will gesso the pages to strengthen them. sometimes I will put two pages together. But it random. I do it differently each time. I know how difficult it can be to just play. But even if you just showed up and gave yourself 30 min. to 1. put paper down. 2. scribble. 3. make marks. It will serve you. I'm a very structured person I think probably for a lot of the same reasons your talking about. give yourself a small list and pick 2 things. That has helped me to just show up. Thanks for being here!!
Thank you so much for this video. I can’t tell you how encouraging and inspiring it is to me! You are so kind and loving and it shows in every video. May God bless you immeasurably for sharing your gifts of encourage, creativity, and teaching with all of us! ❤️🙏🏻❤️
Thank you so very much for showing your creative process! I appreciate the down and dirty, things don’t start from being immaculate. You are showing this and I am grateful. God bless you and your family Dear lady, love, Lisa❤
This video was fantastic! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Lots of great ideas and tips. Love the idea of having a “just show up” journal and make a mess❣️
Such a fabulous tutorial. I gleaned a great deal of information from this video and so much inspiration!!!! Thank you for taking the time to do this for all of us, it is greatly appreciated.
I just Love and appreciate you soooo sooooo much Shawn! 💖💖 I’ve been hanging with you ALOT over the last few months. I’m not one to typically comment in videos. But this one in particular was all the words I needed to hear. I could write you a two page letter telling you how much I appreciate your company every day. Lol But for now, Just know you make a difference too everyone who watches you! Thank you for being you and sharing with us! Much Love! 💖
Just what I needed. Thank you. I've been kind of doing this but thought it was wasting time and supplies because none of my efforts look like much of anything and invariably lead to negative self talk, etc. Who want's to show up for that?! Thank you for showing me the opposite is true!
Thank you so much! This is just what I needed today. I’ve been looking at my journals lately with eyes that just don’t see. So, I thought I’d watch one of your videos today and I got this in response. Thanks again!! 💕
You are exactly right, Shawn. I one of one's that you have talked about ... I have everything to try this now but I haven't as of yet. I'm so sorry, I am sick right now, plus getting over a fractured leg and I still can't still for long on it.
Today while on YT I came across one of your videos. So after subscribing you, I found this video. Wow you got me to a "T" I am new at this and really needed to hear and see this. Thank you for helping me get over the fear of just starting a project!!
😍Love this. This is what I've been doing, but I rarely get beyond the layers to find a theme or something to move forward with. That's what I'm working on now, somehow bridging from playing with layers to expressing something particular. Working on reducing my overthinking and self judgment. Thanks for this.
I loved your video, so helpful and fun!! Thank you for taking the time to talk about how to begin, and addressing our (often subconscious) expectations and preconceived ideas when struggling with inspiration and trying to get started. (Btw, your gray hair is gorgeous!! 🥰)
I would like to gift a wooden panel of this to a friend.. will this be available in your store in future?? I just love the statement it makes about becoming and always evolving.
No I wouldn't use an image from a magazine in my sellable pieces, I just use it for inspiration. What I would do is recreate something like it. Thanks for watching!!

You are amazing! You always inspire me to think outside the box. Can you use the Bella Grace pictures from the magazines in art that you are selling?
No I wouldn't use an image from a magazine in my sellable pieces, I just use it for inspiration. What I would do is recreate something like it. Thanks for watching!!
@@ShawnPetite Thank you 🙂
❤❤❤
🙏🙏🙏
Shawn, what is the pencil like item that you are using to trace around the flower containers?
what is the art journal you use the most - size and manufacturer?? your supplies list says nothing journal but I am still in the dark....
Why do you have parchment in between the pages ?
to keep the pages from sticking together or smearing the pastels
