Hi! Love the idea. I’m thinking about making something similar for my duck pond. I’m wondering if it’s still running well for you? Did your pump ever wear out? Did you make any more modifications?

Filter worked well, just didn't really reduce the work to maintain it, just a few days more between dump and fill. A larger filter would help with the volume of crud ducks produce. The pump I used was a transfer pump and the brushes in it only lasted a few weeks of continuous use. It came with a spare set of brushes so I installed those and don't use it regularly any more. You'll want to find a continuous duty pump, unfortunately they are more expensive. I found a pump a company was throwing out that I may install to test out.

What about a pool pump and sand filter?
Just turn it to backwash and rinse the filter out

That would be an excellent idea. I looked for one but didn't find a bargain on one and decided to make my own. Would have been cheaper in the long run to find a small pool or spa filter/pump. The pump I used was a transfer pump so it didn't last either, burned through brushes in a couple weeks run time. Needs to be a continuous duty pump...like a pool/spa pump.

add koi to eat the waste, works like a charm.
