Chris, you are a legend for reviewing this board. Major props for taking the risk and placing some so... aesthetically different... on the internet. I am guessing, based on previous comments, you knew what you were in for. The shred show is delightful. I wish the frequency hadn't died down.

I tested out the 5'11 with 32 liters of volume on a 4-6' foot an loved it! (I'm 5'8" 160lbs 53 yrs ) That much volume let me catch a lot of waves, and was very responsive. I got hassled a bit at first but the board was amazing. It didn't look like it would surf the way it did. Got some really good hacks, generated amazing speed and flow and felt really good. and it paddled great! I left the water surprised, stoked and feeling like I surfed really well. It works very well, just have to get used to the look and the constant comments of it looking like a penis. All the chicks dug it though!

Thanks for the info. I'm 6'2 185lbs. Looking to try one of these. What size do you think I should try? Thanks again!

The longer I waffle on what design to turn my blank into, the more the design takes on multiple personalities. If you're doing it yourself might as well go funky right?
Lately it's an Average Joe meets Short Round with some Brink Asym and Cornice sidecut, 5 fin groveler. The lines are drawn on the foam. Great work Chris, love your surfboard and fin design shows!

thanks for the review on this one, ive been curious about this board for a while now.
when i first saw it, the side cut made me think of a snowboard and it made me wonder if it would ride similar to one? ive got a firewire spitfire but im very front foot heavy after years of instructing snowboarding and find i bury the nose of my board a bit, as well as it being sluggish from rail to rail.
will have to find a demo board in new zealand and give it a lash.
    cheers mate

Mathew Norrie Snowboarding! Consider this - When you're snowboarding the board will feel unstable when it's flat on snow, and you find stability and control when you're on rail, using either sidecut... I think this board might feel similar to you. Your'e right comparing the sidecuts to a snowboard. The original prototype, and other boards designed by Trinity, have sidecuts that look almost identical to snowboards.

Can you do a review on one of the Lib Tech boards. Would be nice to hear about their surfboards and technology, preferable vert series. Not many reviews out there. :)

I have a very heavy back foot for a surfer, do ya think this board would suit that surfing style? Cheers lads

    • @SurfboardShredShow
      @SurfboardShredShow  9 лет назад +1

John the Vet Yes it would likely suit that style. More so than a heavy front foot. A strong back foot will help drive the wide, flat tail through turns. A heavy front foot could lead to bogging/catching a rail.

I’m 6.3 and ride the Cornice 6.3 as a Thruster and as a Quad. Liked both, but currently surfing as a thruster. Excellent ugly looking board!

Great review!! I have a few ques: So what size should someone get since it was never mentioned anywhere (vids or literature)? Conner coffin recommends getting a board 2-3 inches shorter than the standard surfboard if your getting his Fred rubble as an example. Im 5'7" at 180 lbs. What would you or FireWire recommend if I was going to get one? Also, can the cornice handle crappy mushy 2-3 surf? Is paddling easier catching waves since it has low rockers? Thanks!

Wow, this guy has explained exactly how I have been feeling about my new Cornice. I have never felt a board as responsive and lively, and I have been surfing for a long time. Thanks for this great explanation of what is going on and why I am stoked out of my mind on this board! I bought a 5'7" since it was the closest I could get to the volume of my 5'6" Dominator that I have been riding for a long time and kept going back to after trying other boards. The Cornice is just amazing.

This board goes very well in better waves, it’s not a groveler or every day board in my opinion. Good for head high to well over head as long as the wave has some juice and is a little lined up it surfed very well to me. One review said it went well in flat spots, I totally disagree so far. Considering the discounted price of this board it’s totally worth grabbing. Get a little extra volume as it will only help!

How does it paddle? I looks flat in the middle. It looks like it requires a clean chest high wave.

Board looks weird, I reckon it'll feel even weirder underneath your feet...its right up there with Vanguard in regards to it's weirdness.

Back in the late 80s, early 90s, shape skis were introduced because the sidecut or waist allowed you to tip the ski on its edge and it would turn by following the outline. Same principle here.

Cool review. I live in the south shore of Oahu, with plenty of good waves. What I noticed about the board is that it likes to be ridden off the tail. What I mean by this is that when you drop in on a wave, especially a late drop, and in your turns, it pit wants your weight to be on the back end of the board. Fun board if you're looking for something different to surf.

Excellent review. I especially found value in the use of Firewire's video to demonstrate the points you were making. I also was happy to see you link to specific fin recommendations. I thought the direct tie-in to an individual's skill set with opinions and recommendations based on that skill level (beginner to advanced) of great benefit. I've watched about a dozen or so Shred Shows and this is the first time I've encountered those aspects and it is therefore the most useful review I've seen to date. So much so in fact I took the time to post. Well done.

The Cornice was so unusual I had to try one and it is by far the best surfboard I've ever owned - in performance but not looks! It works as good as they say and FST is bullet proof.

Hi, love your videos so much, have helped a lot in my decision making for what board to get as my step up from a board that has slightly too much width on the nose, a lot of rocker and just a lot of width in general, have postponed all decisions due to the fact that i have dont have anough money at the moment but i would like to buy a 5'8 firewire alternator, noticed you havent done a video on that or any of the lib tech boards but no big deal, also just wanted to know whether or not you do any shaping yourself and whether or not you could do a video of you shaping a board from start to finish and labeling the costs of it all, that would be much appreciated but also understand if you cant because its a mission or because of time constraints, thanks for making these awesome videos and i hope you can show a lot more boards.
