I've had a Brink asym. for about a month now and the difference in you back side is so incredible these boards are definitely a necessity for a good quiver.
Just came across your show for the first time last week. Super informative and fun! Having worked in the surf industry for over 20 years( but have been out for the last 4.That's probably why I've missed it.) I find your commentary on board design, function, performance, and the shapers excellent. I am eagerly trying to catch up on all of the past shows. Thanks for a great show and sharing the stoke!
Mr D Brink is infectious ....his love of surf craft is only rivalled by you Chris. Great energy in this review. This episode will be a Shred Nation classic
On the new side of surfing, coming from snowboarding and skateboarding. Love your channel man, I love learning about board shape and how it benefits you. Just like snowboarding, the way camber and edge shape affects the aggression and float. Really cool stuff.
Love this show. Great job. Great editing cuts too. I am slow to catch on, but somehow you explain it in a way I actually say to myself, "I get it!" Keep up good work.
You are awesome man.. Love all your vids + you are pretty modest about saying you might not know everything about a subject even tho you know tons! Keep up the good work man!
Can you make a video on how to properly take care of your boards? And I just got a 5'5 rusty dwart and I will be surfing it as a quad in Florida with mostly mushy waves. What kind of fins would you recomend? Thank you, love the Channel!!!!
Thanks Chris, because of you and this show I am now riding a 5'5" Tomo Vader. Thanks for the great content, stay Stoked and love what you are doing for the surfing community! Cheers good sir!
I have a Karl Ekstrom surftecht flex tail asymmetrical 6' 4" . I was astounded how smooth and buttery it felt on rail when I moved down from a longboard to have a go it feels like the engine room on my longboard condensed into this design and responsiveness and turning arc of my MR Twinnie on the heel side and the smooth round pin retro feel of my Takayama flow egg on the toe side . it's a quad and Karl recommends a keel on the toe side and pivot natured fins on the heel side . I have yet to ride it backside but so far I am very pleased at the rail to rail transitions and quick response to planing and carrying speed and glide .
I made a 5'2" fish alot like that and it is forsure my favorite board. They ride so fun and do good in alot of different conditions. I definately recomend trying one out
Yes , more shred show . well dude I just got done shaping my first board at shaper studio Brain Espinoza help with the template but my shape was base mostly of what I've learned from watching you show ... Stoked
that was an awesome board review! love the show. its so hard to really learn about what the different shapes of surfboards do in the water. ive learned more on this show then any website ive been on. thanks for doing such a solid job and cant wait to see whats next. btw i am planning a surf trip to central america (costa rica/ popoyo nica) just wondering what you thought would be a good board to invest in to travel with. i have a couple of surfboards but most of them are not so nice epoxy short boards. ive been looking at superbrands unit and the hayden shapes hypto krypto and some other boards that can kinda be good for small mush to head high waves. if you have any suggestions i would appreciate. thanks
Your videos are really useful to get a feel for surfboards and which ones might be suited to you. Could you review a few more Hayden shapes surfboards and some other Australian shapers like chilli surfboards and JS industries?
Chris - no stringer? What is the construction? How should we think about the fancy free in length vs volume? Again thanks for this episode. Very interesting stuff you keep bringing us with each installment.
Hey Chris! I've been a big fan of Shred Show... I do agree in your thoughts! And I also love to ride all kind of boards... Why is taking so long for a next episode???????? I'm really missing Shred Show this last months... Hope your doing good, and hope to be able to watch a new episode soon!!! What about the new Tomo EVO next?? I rode it last week, it did impress me a lot!!! It's too fast, and have a great acceleration!!! It's amazing how it changes direction....
Hi, Chris! I know you did the CI Average Joe video a long time ago, but I'm looking into getting one and I'm not sure how to size myself. I'm 5'1, about 90 lbs and I'm not sure what length to get. I know a lot of people say 2-4 inches shorter than your height, but I've been riding a 6ft foamie and I've been catching and riding waves fine. Would I be okay if I got a larger board? Say 5'5 or up? Thanks so much! Love your show by the way. :)
Hey Chris ! Thank you so much for this review. I've been super stocked when you had the talk with Donald, asymmetric boards are so interesting and I couldn't wait to know more about it ! How did this board felt compare to a fish ? Is it really similar or it was more like the bean bag from Lost ? Thanks and keep going, your show is rad !
Dude! Apparently I missed you by like five minutes in the T&C shop in Haleiwa! I heard you talked to Geoff and maybe a review on a Hawaiian shaped board is in our future...? If not I'll still watch, but... Dude! Ok safe travels...
Also, I second the thought that you should do a bonzer. A proper Campbell brothers model, which can be picked up at Bonzers in Haleiwa or in Oxnard, CA (I think...)
hey Shred Show, love your vids. Was wondering what shortboard you'd recommend for a surf trip to the Mentawais in February? (keeping in mind I surf average knee to head high sloppy and junky waves at home and would like a board that I could use more than once) I am an intermediate skilled surfer. Any help would be appreciated :)
Currently I have a v3 lost rocket in a quad setup which I plan to take, so I was thinking of another board (with a thruster setup) to take that would hold in a bit better in bigger waves (and would also go okay in waves at home).
Simple Motion sounds like the v3 rocket with 5 fin boxes would have been good for you. Bit less volume and more rocker would help in steep powerful reef breaks but that not going to be good for your junk at home.
+krusher74 I got it in a five fin setup but just ride it as a quad (sorry if I made that unclear) so may consider getting thruster set of future fins, thanks!
Once upon a time you used to upload informative vids on board and fin designs, then you added some really cool interviews to the mix. Now I don't see much of either. Wha happened??
Asymmetricals are helping to produce fast and super maneuverable surfing SUPs which proves that the ideas presented here can be scaled and work well. The one in this blog review is over a year old, my new one is two inches shorter on each side. 7'8" toeside/ 7'6" heelside. srfnff.blogspot.com/2014/03/board-review-original-simsup-s3s5.html Donald's ideas are not new but it takes someone with knowledge, skill and vision to apply hydrodynamic design elements in such as way that the result is a board that surfs as intended.
Thanks a lot for this, just made a bastard child of a puddleJumper (front) and psychedelic Germ back. 5.11, 21.5, 2.38 deep single to double with a tiny v at the end. . Its magic going frontside but a bit wonky backside. This review hit the nail on the head of how that wonky ness feels, maybe I should do a bit of "plastic surgery" thanks for another great episode. /Daniel
without sounding critical, the decrease in new vids is seriously messing with your views, i love this channel but i hate waiting a month between new content
I've had a Brink asym. for about a month now and the difference in you back side is so incredible these boards are definitely a necessity for a good quiver.
Yo Chris, Hope you and Shred Show are all alive and well and shrrrrredding still mate! can't wait for the next ep.
I'm convinced that an asym is my next type of board. I'm very intrigued by the design features that hide inside a shape like that.
Great way to start a morning watching your videos making it a happy Thursday!!! Thanks!!
I forgot how good this guy is.

Amazing! Thanks Chris
great explanation of such a complex design, thanks!

You keep raising the bar! Great episode!
Board flip! That was a pretty in depth coverage about the board. Makes me want to get one and I'm at the other side of the world!!
Love this show. Great job. Great editing cuts too. I am slow to catch on, but somehow you explain it in a way I actually say to myself, "I get it!" Keep up good work.
Mate - great post. But that was in July and now its November... we miss you here!!!!
You are awesome man.. Love all your vids + you are pretty modest about saying you might not know everything about a subject even tho you know tons! Keep up the good work man!
Sheesh - well done translating that DB board! I've considered playing with assyms, and the rub down gave it a bit more clarity. Cheers

Love to see some asym tail longboards.
Make even more difference for gumbus like myself !
Great review. I have been struggling to understand what it twisted rocker looks like and your explanation was super helpful. Thanks,
r
Rob Cohen maybe the term spiral rocker would help, but that sounds very twisted.
I made a 5'2" fish alot like that and it is forsure my favorite board. They ride so fun and do good in alot of different conditions. I definately recomend trying one out

Hey, I was wondering what would be the best shortboard for a beginner to intermediate surfer. Also, thanks for posting all of the videos
Chris - no stringer? What is the construction? How should we think about the fancy free in length vs volume?
Again thanks for this episode. Very interesting stuff you keep bringing us with each installment.
Very cool. Maybe discuss fins for asymmetrical boards? I know some guys who are trying different mismatched combos for frontside/backside. Thanks!

Dude what happend?
without sounding critical, the decrease in new vids is seriously messing with your views, i love this channel but i hate waiting a month between new content
History repeating itself. All you need do is learn to move your feet and you probably should learn this anyway.
So, in other words, are you saying, on a symmetrical board; for a regular footer, surf with your heels closer to the left edge, when going back side?
@@MMaVM
That's it. Usually slightly to the rear. Most experienced surfers move their feet constantly.
@@MMaVM
That's where the heal depression usually is, so I am fairly sure that's what happens.
Makes sense, but visually I couldn't live with it.
