My friend is a JP main and I have over 500 matches with them as marisa(plus other chars as I play multiple). Other things to point out in here that wasnt mentioned. 1: When the rift is up. JP cant command grab. So you can be more aggressive going forward. 2: The key way to beat JP is to Not respect his projectiles. If you respect them to much he'll eat you alive. If you just keep walking forward towards him and blocking the projectiles, you will get to him very easily as his fireballs are "fake". They arent as dangerous as they come off. 3: Anytime they throw a rift up and you know they are going to teleport. Always do jumping lk. It covers both back and front just incase you didnt time it well, but when JP comes out he doesnt have a hitbox till he is fully out of the portal(at least it feels like it), so you will win the engagement 99% of the time(only reason its not 100% is because sometimes the game gets weird). 4: If they like to spam their counter. Bait that shit. Bait it hard. Then get that 5500 combo in. 5: For level 2 super. All you have to do is hold parry. If they teleport in and go for a throw, just let them throw. taking 2000 damage over a large damaging combo is a better benefit. If they go for the throw and mistime their throw and you see it whiff, even if they spam it, it'll keep whiffing and when you feel safe in the gap, grab them instead. Dont use super unless they over extend. 6: Sparda kick is a good move against JP. If you are burnt out or having trouble getting in. If they go for the rift, it'll cover the ground pretty quickly to help you be in his face more so then superman punch. 7: Find friends that main JP and play against them a ton. Because of me playing against my friend I have a 80% win rate against JP in rank. Once you know JP is "fake" he isnt as scary as you think he is.
One question for situational JP counter. I do standing forward heavy knee, he does his counter and his two projectiles come out. Is EX Gladius an option to armor through the projectiles and keep the pressure on him as long as it doesn't cause burn out or is it just not worth the meter?
Damn learned so much about my own character I didn’t think of lol. Figthing a marisa in a FT7 tomorrow and I’ve only fought 1 since I had the game so I wanted some guides and matches to see what’s the general gameplan. But seeing a bit from the other side def helps so solid video🔥🙌🏾
The fact that this got so few views makes me a little reluctant. I’ll keep doing it since I need to lab matchups anyway, but it is a little weird that this one performed like this. This week I’ll probably spend time figuring out Rashid.
This is exactly the kinda thing I've been looking for, thank you! The only thing that would make this better is if you can include a match or two so we can see how it all comes together. Also, as a request - do you think you could do one on Jamie?
Hey the new Rashid character juat dropped, I know you can't make a video fast but could you look into him? It'd really help out. Aldo I think there's things with the update cause I can't do some combos anymore.
Hey zach, I've known something for a while. You can use throw and grab zangief while he is doing that charging grab where he puts his arms up, If you throw him when he is charging foward you win it. Anyways I having some problems with poking, when I try to poke they start they are already aggressive and tend to jump over, and I'm only at anti airs while I'm defending. What I'm trying to say that it is hard to switch between poking and defending. I'd love it if you could help.😊
The key is to be looking for the jump while you throw out a fast poke so that you can react to it with an anti air. The poke covers the space in front in case they dash and you react to the jump.
I think something is wrong with me, I'm always good at something for a while and then lose it all. Last time it was with chess and I quit after it. Now I fear I might quit fighting games. I need help but I don't know if I can even recover.
I low-key need a guide to fight Lilly with Marisa, I know the char is trash but vs someone who knows how to play with her is incredible hard to break her zoning barrier and get to her
Idc what anyone says, this matchup is so bad for Marisa. If the JP plays disrespectful, doesn't just give you a free combo with dumb amnesias, and plays slippery, it's very tough.
I don’t know if it’s bad, but it is hard. I think Marisa can win a lot of games in this matchup, but when she wins it takes 10 seconds and when she loses it takes 65, so it doesn’t feel good to play. I’m not saying it isn’t a bad matchup, just that it’s probably not as bad as it feels.

All very good things. I knew a lot of this stuff, but just didn’t think to add it into the video. Thanks for the contribution!
Super helpful. Appreciate you.
This novel is very nice.

Any time I have a hyper specific Marisa question, you some how have entire videos on the topic. Thank you!
I look forward to predicting your next question with a video.
Another absolute banger. This will suffice to increase my power even further.
You are doing a lot of good work for the Marissa lovers out here. I can't wait to see similar videos, exploring other matchups.
I really should get back to it. I think I’ve only done this one, Lily, and Guile.
Breathed a sigh of relief when I saw this
Hopefully it helps. I re-recorded this video three times to get it right and I’m still not completely satisfied with it.
God tier pfp
This is great! My hardest matchup is JP!
I look forward to your next matchups!
Hopefully this helps!
Thanks for this! Looking forward to more match-up videos for Marisa!
I picked up Marisa 2 weeks ago, and just found your vids today! Great stuff across the board. You're a hero!
Thank you. I try to post a new vid once a week on either Wednesday or Thursday.
Bro you’re the goat thank you
Your vids are so good, im literally using them to teach people how to design counterplay in general
Incredibly useful guide, thanks loads
This is helpful for sure. Thank you
Spot on pal 👍

Good luck.
This was very useful.
Thanks very helpful! Would love this against juri by far my worst matchup.
Bro very helpful!!
Thanks for this. I appreciate matchup videos because I don't do a ton of that kind of lab work myself. I'd like to request Honda and Dhalsim next!
I’ll probably wait on Honda a bit, just because I already have the tech video against him, but I’ve been looking at Sim a little bit.
Definitely need more matchup vids

I need to make a list or take a poll to figure out which characters to cover first, but yes, I’d like to cover most of the cast.
No rush, thanks again for the great work
Please
Marisa vs Ken(pressure)
Seeing as I just got owned by a JP, I see this as an absolute win.

I’ll definitely spend most of today playing/labbing Rashid.

Okay thanks, I've just been looking to punish counter when poking and not any type off anti air.

I’ve actually been thinking about looking at that matchup. Might be one of the next videos that I make.
What can you do about neutral jump against him?
In what context?
His spikes are damn fast. And why does he get a stage length command grab and a teleport? That shit aint right.
In some ways he doesn’t feel like a SF character, but I’m glad they’re taking risks with character archetypes. SFV felt very safe for the most part.
@@ZachHenke I feel that. And he has the drip. You can’t be that mad at him.
