How to play Marisa: Beating Wake Up Drive Reversal
In this video I cover some setups which are safe against the opponent using drive reversal on wake up. Obviously not as strong as regular meaties for pressure, but a good option to consider against opponents who like the option.

we want more bison tech!!
Honestly, I’ve been watching some Bison stuff and I really think I might try to pick him up.
@@ZachHenke he's so fun, really hoping you release more content on him, like you said it feels like it'll take a while to figure him out
@@vincentFGC For sure. Like I said, I plan on at least learning the basic stuff to see if I want to pick him up, so there will definitely be at least a little more content.
@@ZachHenke sounds good!! this was already super helpful
Would love to play you sometime to get stronger and share ideas with Marisa 💡 what's your cfn homie ?
WETE42
Really good stuff!
Man's single handedly carried my Plat ass to Diamond. 😅 now I need to get Good and react to jumps with anti airs more.
Could you also make matchup knowledge checks for Marisa Vs the rest of the cast? Specifically Vs Cammy, Kimberley and Jamie. I guess m. Bison too. His weird forward double kick flip is so hard to handle.
Made Master today with your tech man, I really appreciate your help for us Marisa mains
Awesome!
Super neato thanks for the info.
This was very helpful thank you I appreciate it
Thanks for checking it out.
I know this sounds like something simple and basic but I struggle to get out level 1 supers after a jab or crouching medium punch could you show how to buffer into that? I’m using a PS5 controller idk if that has something to do with it
The biggest thing is to be aware of how the game handles inputs. If you’re a pushing something like 2MP into super you can use the input for the 2MP as the first down and then you just roll forward or back as soon as you input MP. That way you don’t have to do the whole motion afterwards. So instead of doing 2+MP then 236236 you do 2+MP36236.
@@ZachHenke Thank you I'm gonna practice that
Super helpful, as always! Once you bait wake up drive reversal once, meaty command grab becomes a party starter ;)
Awesome content. I think that heavy bomb setup is a ton of fun to use, that and the easy shimmy you can get off of his scissor special.
Great vid. Any plans on doing oki videos for bison??
Did a simple one yesterday.
@@ZachHenke i’ll check it out. appreciate it
🐐
Would had been a bit of an extra sauce to show us optimal Drive reversal punishes 👀👌🏽
I made a video about this but it was before season 2 dropped, so the 6HK TC buff is notably absent
This plus the Stryder Dhalsim punish video is going to save me from the most frustrating matchup for my Marisa. So sick of actually getting in on Sim just to get reversal'd out for the 10th time.
You and me both. They love to do it.
What strider video is this that you speak of? 😭
fwiw imma marisa main solely due to bison not being in sf6. Although im dropping marisa indefinitely due to bison.. your videos helped me get to master. I hope you continue to make bison tutorials because you fill a very present niche of Marisa mains who are switching to Bison.
You better be parrying against this character cuz he will annihilate your drive gauge 😭
4:34 relatable
Thanks for sharing this, appreciate it alot
Thanks for watching.
Thanks Bud
Saw this vid as a recommendation, Im a low level Diamond player and I literally have 0 knowledge on the frames stuff. You explain it in a way that a dummy like me can understand, definitely subscribing and taking my time learning everything youve explained. Thank you!
I’m a teacher by trade, so it makes me feel good in a professional sense that you find my explanations simple to understand.
I didn't know di beat psycho crusher least that one it tough mu for Marisa but i fought some ways but bison oki is insane
Once the bomb is on you it’s definitely hard to deal with.
Heavy punch bomb is also just a good ender if you spend a little meter to do drive rush crouch heavy into heavy bomb, then you can dash forward and be + if they dont back tech
Yeah I’ve seen just spamming the scissor kicks because even on block -4/-5 is hard to punish at the distance he gets out back at.
This is great, I just got Bison to masters last night without being too confident in my oki but I was using a lot of these setups thankfully lol I think there's one thing you did miss though. In the corner if you end with 214LP you can whiff crouch jab to frame kill and then do meaty 4HK. Or if you end with 214HP in the corner you can frame kill with 2MP and meaty with 4HK Great stuff once again!
That’s good. Thank you!
Coming from tekken I struggle to play sf bec it seams like a mashy game
That’s how I feel about Tekken.
All fair to u it's probably just bec we both haven't played either of the games enough
I'm trying tho bec I only bought the game bec bison
Do you have a video on delaying normals to beat delay tech? I understand shimmy delay tech but I dont really understand the delay normals. Ive had it done to me and it feels terrible lol
Most people are delay teching somewhere in the neighborhood of a 7-10 frame delay. So you can either try to manually delay your button that long or you can pick a button with slower startup and push it immediately.
@@ZachHenke thanks
You’re guides are great man. You definitely helped me get marissa to master. It’s nice to see you do more of these on more characters. I feel like you truly nailed how advanced you keep it. It’s crystal clear but still technical. Perfect intermediate to advanced guides! 10/10 👏🏻
( i understand it’s very hard work and doing this on multiple characters is probably really time consuming. But having these on many characters i feel like your channel would be very very popular )
So much of it is timing. The vids I did on Ryu and Manon knockdowns didn’t do well at all, for example.
@@ZachHenke Oh really? i can imagine the timing is big. perhaps alot of the people subscribed at the moment are marissa players hehe
That’s definitely part of it.

Welcome aboard!
Thank you for making this. I dropped marisa for bison and prayed there would be some Zach Henke quality guides. So glad you're using him
Great stuff yet again
Awesome video bro! Keep learning us auahauaha
Thank youuu!
maaaaan i love you Zach im still maining marisa and picking up bison as secondary you helped me alot !!! 🙏
The only character I would drop Marisa for without question is Abigail. There are a few others I would definitely put considerable time into. Right now I’m just going to have fun learning some Bison tech.
@@ZachHenke i would think cuz theres a whole final fight theme in the game as well maki, cody and Carlos and haggar would finally make an appearance with abigail
First time watching, and this is one of the best Bison vids out right now. Subscribing to hopefully see more Bison guides. Would love some BnB combo guides for beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Thanks! Right now I do plan on doing at least a little more with the character. Hopefully you don’t mind seeing some Marisa stuff, too.
A few other meaty setups. after forward throw = Drive rush standing hk. it'll catch both quick and back rise. It'll also recover in time to drive impact back if they wake up drive impact. You'll be +2 from it and if it connects you can go into cmk into whatever or if you are closer you can get cmp. after light and medium double fist = You can do a drive rush hk, but if they back rise you wont get anything off it. i guess it could be good to keep the pressure going but thats about it. after ex double fist = Same as forward throw. drive rush standing hk and you are plus 3 but both quick and back rise you are in their face so if it connects you can get cmp, if its a counter hit you can get back hk. After light psycho crusher = at max range on knock down you can drive rush hk. at close range you can drive rush back hk. If you are also close and dont want to use meter you can do hp. Only issue is if they back rise you wont get anything off it. so its better to just do a dash. after medium psycho crusher = at mid range on knock down you want to drive rush hp. close range is the same as light psycho. at max range slight delay on drive rush hp. after heavy psycho crusher = at max range, drive rush hp. mid range is drive rush back hk or do non-drive rush hp. You dont want to do heavy psycho crusher up close, but if you do. drive rush cmp. for mines- If you are in the corner and end with light or medium double fist while someone already has a mine you get a safejump. If you do heavy double fist you can get another light double fist afterwards you reapply the mine.
With the +41 safejump, why does empty jump beat the 5 frame reversal? aren't you in the air the same amount of time? do you land faster if you don't press a normal in the air or something?
Landing recovery. You have 3 frames of landing recovery in SF6, but if you empty jump you can block during them.
In my haste I guess I never actually tested the psycho crusher as a meaty after medium bomb. Light psycho crusher has none of the weaknesses that I show in this video.
I think the only weakness is that in a lot of scenarios where they back roll, it doesn't go far enough.
I always love your guides!
Thanks for the support!
Aaaah Bison, my SF4 main, looks like it's time to pick up a third main
Who’s ur other 2?
@@erno6155 Marisa and Blanka
Woo
Hoo.
You can do light psycho crusher after the bomb attack and you can't be died Great video otherwise though!
That whiffs they don’t push anything and you’re -31 iirc.
@@ZachHenke Ah, then I blame Sajam for misleading me :)
It might work off of medium bomb or if they don’t back roll, but it definitely doesn’t work from light bomb.
@@ZachHenke ah interesting, worthy of more testing for sure (I need to buy him first, rental ran out)
@@akev2794 just tested it, from medium bomb you can do this no problem. It doesn’t have any of the issues that light bomb does.
Light crusher recovers fast enough to counter DI after backfist. The opponent can just react with an invincible reversal instead, though, so I still think the crusher setups are kinda gimmicky.
It doesn’t hit if they back recover and block. You’re like -30 in their face.
@@ZachHenke It looks like it does connect after medium backfist, but yeah, it whiffs after light midscreen. Could technically still go for it in the corner I guess.
As a Marisa player considering the swap to Bison, this is pretty content, ha ha. Cheers, mate.
Same here 😂
Same! Thanks for the work bro appreciate it (Shyvas)
I was a Bison main in SF4 and since then he's been my favorite character. He wasn't released at launch, so I decided to main Marisa. I was so excited when he was announced...I love scissor kick pressure. You should be used to his anti airs (cr. HP and air to air MP, MP) since they're similar to Marisa's but better
Thanks for the bison guide
Of course. Just trying to put out content people find useful.
yeeeeee i was waiting for this one my man!
Cool! It’s a pretty rough sketch, since I’m sure he has a lot of details and options from his bomb setups, but I wanted to put something out there to get the juices flowing.
@@ZachHenke VERY GOOD IDEA! ill be waiting 4 new tips. by the way i terrible at finding combos by myself any ideas on how to find those?
Just do like really simple stuff for a week then watch high level replays and just copy/steal stuff they do.
Best SF6 tutorials out there.
Thank you!
Happy that S.HP works for the spacing trap. Thanks for the vid~! Signed, A Modern Marisa Main
Where's my jamie guide at?
I’ll work on it.
Woah! 😂 If you got better ideas that's should absolutely come first, I was doing a lil trolling I feel Jamison is the total opposite@@ZachHenke
I want you to explain how to beat Jury with Marisa. Jury character is given me a hard time.
I do have an older video covering some of the basics of that matchup. Not a ton has changed except we can sort of trade with fireball with our 5HK now.
@@ZachHenke even when Jury does the cmk rush is crazy cuttting any movement that I try to do. It is a peanut in the buck.
@@marstudios7879 yeah, it’s difficult to deal with. The best thing is to try to play around the range and use LP Superman and 5HK if they get predictable with it.
