One detail I forgot to add regarding JP's Rift (QCB+P), each strength correlates with how fast it will burst. Light being the fastest and Heavy being the slowest.
As a JP main this was a great guide...very precise and straight to the point! On a quick side note...his air throw is ridiculously good. I catch players with it all the time
Here's another good tip for JP players: if you throw out a starter like b.MP>MP or HK>HP and they're blocking, you can cancel into the command grab instead of continuing the pressure. As long as you're not too predictable, it can often get free advantage from a blocking opponent.
@@AcidArmy_ of course it is, but I can't tell you how many times I've caught people with it because almost everyone expects you to close out a JP target combo with his qcf+P or perhaps even a fireball, so they tend to keep blocking. It doesnt work every time and there are definitely times I've been caught trying, but there are also times when that command grab option won me a match. Not saying it's always a good idea, but it's a nice trick to add to the JP arsenal

It would've been nice to see where JP is weak. Like what block strings are unsafe or what normals are easily punished. Otherwise I have at least a better understanding of why I don't like JP.
The only reason I’m here is because I think jp attacks are cool, that’s why I’m gonna main him lol, also I didn’t know he was a zoner when I first saw him but I like zoning so this is perfect
And then all the abbreviations and sht. I don’t even know what know of these mean. I play modern & Dona couple of classic inputs but it’s like your hands literally have to move faster than flash to combo anything.
You know I don’t know why but I kinda wanna try and learn him (I’m a Lily main) I played one online at the battle hub and I did NOT have fun but after I finished playing with the guy I was like “huh… I kinda wanna do that to other people”😂
Is there a specific method for canceling his down down punch into super? Struggling, so I assume there's a buffering within the down down. Any help would be great. Thanks
I really like JP and feel like I play pretty decent, but at platinum I'm struggling to get out of the corner against players who know how to mix up oki. Anyone have tips?
Use his DD+KK (Parry) move. It beats Physical attacks and throws/ command grabs. If they're able to block in time after parrying their attack, you can dash up and jump over them to bait a throw and get a conversion
Immediately. As soon as you input the ground spike and you start to see it come out, cancel into lvl 3 right away. Go into practice mode and just hammer in that muscle memory. That's all combos are really. Just gotta get that repetition
Wanna ask if you plan to make a JP Matchup tierlist cuz I cant tell if I'm just bad or if certain matchups are geuinely tricky for JP + your takes on it
Thank you, this got me going with JP, friends told me I should try him, I kinda like the trickster part with the feints and portals. It's a departure from my original main DeeJay. It's... much slower :D
If remembering the spike ODs is difficult for anyone, a good way to remember them is that the light OD uses the two lightest punches(L+M), the heavy OD uses the two heaviest (M+H), and the medium OD is inbetween (L+H). I think of the medium one as kind of stretching it out. Both L and H trying to take it so it goes in the middle of them. As for the rifts, the OD versions just summon both rifts of the buttons you press.
Do you know if JP has a true block string with his crouching light punches? I set up the dummy with 1 and 2 block count and i always got hit. I havent tried with other characters yet so idk if theyre the same. I thought SF had most light attacks chain into each other.
thank you for your video, I've been looking at mostly matches and tried the trials, but a video to get some idea of how to play the proper neutral with jp ive not seen, bit with this video I can get a better idea since the start of this game I want to improve and I was interested in jp because he looked like count dooku with a stand from jojo

From what've seen you're also a MK player who's waiting for the big game to drop. You mentioned in the guide that the main focus is to keep opponent away but I was wondering if more aggressive block pressure is possible with JP with that special moves properties. . . Also, what would you say are his weaknesses and his worst MU?
Oh JP definitely has oppressive pressure. His QCF+KK is +24 on block. There's a gap when cancelling but not a lot of people have interrupted it. I think JP's biggest weakness is a good rushdown character. Cammy, Dee Jay, Honda and Marissa all seem to be a problem for him

Air throw can win games sometimes, especially if you don't throw it out a lot and catch them off guard near the end of a round.
Here's another good tip for JP players: if you throw out a starter like b.MP>MP or HK>HP and they're blocking, you can cancel into the command grab instead of continuing the pressure. As long as you're not too predictable, it can often get free advantage from a blocking opponent.
