After 4 years, I finally broke the curse and got my first 400.

- Over 4 years since breaking my last milestone, almost 3 years since I have touched this channel and 2 years since I have uploaded an osu! video, I am back to upload the 1 curse I finally broke. This is not my first rodeo on this map as I set 2 plays on this before but with the accuracy being too low for a 400. This time I made sure I fulfill the accuracy requirement, third time lucky.
To put into perspective how long this has taken, my 302pp Team Magma play was set back when I was still in my second year of Sixth Form or Twelfth grade equivalent in the United States. I am now about to finish my third year of my Degree Apprenticeship...
4 pp reworks have also come and gone since (where I lost pp on every single one of them) with a fifth being proposed but not approved yet. After my first 300pp, I have accumulated over 80 more in the process of getting my first 400pp. And I have taken so long that osu! lazer, the build that has felt like it has been in development since forever, has now officially enabled pp.
This milestone break has been vindication for time I have clocked in the last 4 years as this curse stood for much longer than it should have. Eventually, this was taking a huge toll on my mental mindset towards the game where every time I got so close to the milestone, I would collapse in spectacularly fashion one way or another. I also got increasingly frustrating as I would being making blunders on patterns that should have been trivial otherwise. Even after my entire skillset became very all rounded and diverse, I felt like I was not improving much due to the milestone that eluded me constantly.
This was the main reason why I mixed up my stream content through 2022 with the Ring Fit Adventure Exercise Osu! that I have been doing and still is currently ongoing over 300 stream days strong; Grinded for the A rank and S ranks on Nintendo Switch Sports before experiencing a lot of its shortcomings; Occasionally doing Pantheon of Hallownest runs on Hollow Knight before being mostly focused on the Wii Tanks scene in 2023, clearing Wii Tanks Pro, Wii Tanks Masters both 4:3 and 16:9 and Wii Tanks: The Lost Missions which has pretty much taken over my main channel.
This all occurred while the 400pp curse stood, and stood, and stood... A curse that evolved into an inner demon of regret, disappointment and shame. I knew the milestone was not objective and I still had other skill sets and achievements to be proud of, but it always felt incomplete and secondary to what I set myself out to do in the first place. To now finally have this 400pp after all this time, was a reliving sensation of completion. With that chapter to rest I feel like I can now highlight other aspects that I work on to be unique and part of my streams that I left at the back burner for years.
As for future goals, though I will initially grind for 500pp this month, after that I will take a backseat on grinding pp as it has been mentally draining to do so for a long while now. I mentioned DT was something I did not focus on in the past over grinding HDHR (Hidden+Hard Rock) and HD plays. I plan to change that this year, hopefully reaching 250 BPM maxing while consistently performing well on 230-240 BPM. I also want to flesh out my Flashlight and Small Circle Size plays I started developed a lot back in 2023. Furthermore, I will have a crack at Osu! Lazer with its gimmick gameplay mods and hopefully get some additionally unique scores there as well.
As for this DragonSlayerOsuMC channel, this will be the new hub for Osu! content and I am very exciting of the things to come. I had a blast editing this video, letting my creativity run free and learning tricks about Premiere Pro after switch away from Hitfilm Express. As a result, I have a highlight edit that I am happy with for the first time in like forever.
I even went the extra mile of creating a thumbnail for this video with the help of this from @AkamiXY : • HOW TO MAKE GOOD OSU! ...
The thumbnail turned out a lot better than I could have imagined and overall, I am pretty happy with how the video turned out. Hopefully this will be the first of many osu! videos to come.

This is like looking into a mirror... I got my first 300 pretty quickly after starting the game, (less then a year after I picked up the game again) and then for the next 2 years I would be stuck without one even while I was playing practically every day. I had about 8 different maps that I would ALSO get S ranks on, all worth about 400pp each, I also just felt like quitting after a while lol. It's also pretty funny we're about the same rank! hahaha, well done my friend :) gj
That hits deep. It is also worth taking breaks to do something else. I even proceed to play mainly Wii Tanks for a while on my variety channel. However, it was something that was needed to get back to a fresh mindset. As WhiteCat prefaces time and time again, it is a mental game.
Funnily enough, I have too many chokes to count. Someday, I may go back through my 300 streams and make a 4 hour compilation video but that is very far away.

I’ve been taking a break from osu after my most recent popoff kinda fizzling out and playing other games, and it’s helped mediate that stress. I only have 3 400s rn, but I’m hoping to get more in the future. Gl to you, my friend :)))

I still do use the tablet as mouse even up to now and I am more than down to catch up on btmc vc sometime in the near future.

Thanks, honestly I eventually grew numb to the feeling of disappointment. It's also quite fitting that 400pp took 4 years. Hopefully, that will not be the same for 500pp.

Thanks, in the streams leading up to my grind sessions for that week, I did play on mcosu with OD 11 together with AR10, CS 5.2 and HD. Then over time decreased both CS and OD as far down as CS 6.5 and OD 12.5 respectively as I got more comfortable and more willing to push myself. In a sense, I was over practicing the 2 elements of HR that made me nervous in a play so that when it came to the real thing, I would find it easier to deal with. Of course, this won’t work for everyone, and what I have explained was the short version of what I practiced.

Damn I really resonate with this. I set my first 300 back in December 2021 and have only pushed to a top play of 356pp. I really struggle with aim consistency, mind block and nerves which have really held me back(nevermind the fact that as a speed player, warmup takes an insane amount of time). Just recently I've actually been playing very well and gotten about 7 top play chokes in one week(1 or two misses) and even about 3 400pp chokes. I can feel the 400 coming soon, but my nerves often get the best of me
Not gonna lie, that got me quite emotional reading through all of that. Even if your 400 pp play doesn't happen soon, be proud of the journey that you undertake because you are worth more than the arbitrary numbers that the game portrays you for. Also, I sure that you have a wider skill set than what you give yourself credit for; it is never too late to discover and widen your skill breadth.
Lowkey the anti nerve sauce is to be edgy and immerse in the music (feel cool/epic) since once you become scared you will miss instantly

thats a pretty sick 400 man, 9 months ago i got my first ever 400 (exactly 400) on ray - passcode with HD and and now literally a few hours ago i got my top play of 431pp on lazer :) (hell or hell hd fc) funny how the recommended works lol
Congrats on your top play on Lazer. I don't know if we are thinking about the same mapset but at one point in time, I did have plans on FCing Ray on the top diff of the SkyFlame mapset those most of my runs died at the stop and go streams in each section. I ended up settling for a 3 miss run for now but I might go for it in the future. As for Lazer, I have been playing it on my iPad whenever I am travelling during the apprenticeship trips I do every now and then. However, I will stick to stable on stream for now as I still have unfinished business to do there but eventually I will transition.

I really tried working on consistency from 2020-2022 though I didn't see much pay off until 2023. Now, I have a fair mixture of lengths in my top 100 plays.

Then there’s me who set a 300, took almost 7 months to set another but had a 400 within a month and a half from that.
I decided I wanted to set a certain score before anything else and am therefore stagnant for over a year now
It’s happens. I was the same with 200 and 300. Got my first 200pp play a month after I started streaming and my 300pp play, 7 months after that. Again, it is usually a mindset thing from what I have discovered in the comments.

Thanks! I would not say I am that chill to be quite frank though that feeling is subjective and I usually cringe watching back at myself while editing. Probably every once in a while we can host some multi lobbies on stream as that was something I have missed so much but unfortunately neglected over the grind.

Usually around 9:30-10:30pm start time though it is highly volatile due to juggling work and uni for my apprenticeship and tennis matches on the side whether I have energy after competing.

Honestly, I just had a lot of things in my mind at the time of writing it and I have developed my own stuggles and frustration with the game and with myself; and on top of the fact that I had sunk in hours into this game, multiple times a week over a span of 4 years, then you can imagine how long that list of thoughts can become. I have also not told the full story and probably never will under text format.
I had also face a problem of bottling up my own emotions from both on stream and in my personal life which got very unhealthy throughout 2023. I have been getting better this year though but I still a long way to go.

Hopefully, but I said the same thing about aiming for 400pp last time and that milestone ended up becoming the longest grind I have ever done in my channel's history.
I will grind for 500pp for a month but I won't get hung up about it if I don't get it. I just want to enjoy the game again and doing stuff that I want to do instead of numerical milestones dictating things for me.
