I think the original clone saga is one of those stories that works as a great ending to Spider-man. For the first 150 issues, he is facing villains that are twisted mirrors of himself and learning lessons about himself and life. Finally, the final boss that Peter Parker faces is... himself! The story could've ended right there!

Thanks for the review. The original covers are so much nicer than the new standard covers. Ross Andru was a great artist, but I think your comment was made when you were looking at Sal Buscema drawings.
We need someone out there with skills to make high quality stickers that fit exactly over the spine and have the old font designs, size, etc... They can make a sheet of the stickers for The Defenders volume 1, Amazing Spider-Man volumes 3 reprint and 5, Captain America volume 3, etc... More expensive, but better, would be the dustjackets completely reprinted with the original design. I would buy them before Marvel could take them down.
What's with Marvel and their spine design's lately? I really do hope they are not following in DC footsteps in design choices. This is so out of order and it wont match the other volumes.....nonetheless this is a great book and good overview Omar. At least the Omni seems slimmer then the other volumes.
@@WhoniverseReview I would have the exact same reaction if it was a set of DLX HC spines in the same run. It's different when it's a different title, like Aaron's Conan vs. Immortal Hulk. At least the Immortal Hulk hardcovers have the same format. But imagine if say volumes 1 and 3 looked the same, but volume 2 was totally different. It just looks bad.
Hey Omar, great preview. I have mine on pre-order and I suspect it will be the standard cover. The spine issue looks worse with it sandwiched between Vol. 4 & the Stern omnibus. It's unsightly now. However it may look better when volume 6 happens, having 2 side by side, assuming Marvel retain the spine design. Love your work mate. Stay safe. Cheers. 👍😊
If we can just get vol. 6 to bring us to the Stern omnibus, then one more to fill the gap between Stern and Mcfarlane, we'll be close to having all of ASM Vol. 1 in omni format. 🤞
Yep they can combine Wolfman and O'Neil in one omnibus, then there's Stern. I think DeFalco's stuff would be another omnibus, from 253-289. Thing is McFarlane didnt take over till Issue #298. Romita did a few issues, then we had Kraven's Last Hunt which way by Mike Zeck, then the Mad Dog Ward Crossover, so there were about 9-10 issues between the end of DeFalco and the beginning of McFarlane.
Hola Omar! en la parte de non-spoilers del video muestras una página con un gran spoiler para quienes no leyeron estas maravillosas historias de nuestra adolescencia. Saludos y gran trabajo!
Delighted that we're getting this. Not really a fan of that Medina cover though so I'm glad I've ordered the Kane DM variant. Looking forward to this one getting delivered. Thanks for the overview Omar.
Cant wait to get my mitts on this omnibus!! I just love the 1970's artwork and all i need now is Vol 3 to complete this set. Im actually reading Spiderman by Roger Stern omnibus right now and having a blast.
As well as the different design, the spine seems a bit thinner compared to previous volumes when you consider the page count. I'll still be picking it up though!
Is it a local comics shop, an LCS, that gets the direct market copy of the omnibus? I see the other cover on Amazon. If I bought it I would never choose the new artist rendition. But I wouldn't pay more for the direct market cover. The new art never looks as good as the old art. I for one don't want art that isn't already in the book. A good cover is EVERYTHING imo.
The spine change is just stupid. I honestly believe it was an accident, and now they are just rolling with it. It makes 0 sense and is actually upsetting a lot of people. I have been buying every Marvel Omni for the past 2.5 years, and I am going to have to stop. This is just ridiculous and ruins the whole aesthetic. Would you put on your shelf, an opinion, then a tpb, then a treasury, then a gallery, then a tpb, then a deluxe, etc... No, your TPB go together, your Omnis go together, etc... throwing that font in is doing exactly that, just messing with the order of the universe... :(
It's not an accident. It's 100% purposeful. Just like when DC changed the spine for the Teen Titans omnis -- they want to reprint them and get more $$$ by not only selling reprints to people who didn't have them, but also a chunk of people who want their bookshelf to have some sort of aesthetic.
I 100% agree! It's hideously ugly. It's so bad, in fact, that I won't be buying it. I've gotten into omnis a couple years ago and I was just about to commit to the Amazing Spider-Man classic run. After seeing this, forget it! I'm gonna go with the Epic Collection Spider-Mans. And the SAME thing goes for any other editions with that ridiculous-looking spine!
Can’t wait to get my hands on this, the DM cover looks epic ! Ordered my copy from IST, just need Vol 1,3, and 4 now so I can actually start reading them ! Does anyone know if we are getting a reprint of Vol 1 next year ?
Omar: You scared me at first when you said this was printed in Turkey, but I'm gonna trust you that this isn't the same thin paper used in the Defenders Omni. I don't like the new spine design any more than the other people, but it won't prevent me from buying. The super thin paper WILL keep me from buying a book, though. I appreciate you taking the time to let us know about these things in advance. As always, I appreciate your reviews, and keep up the great work!
A few years ago I read the Andru run and was blown away by the energy of his art. You can feel the movement of Spidey. Judging by what you've shown the art really and colour really pop. Possibly the best it's ever looked.
The Ross Andru era of Amazing Spider-Man is my jam. While I only owned and read less than handful of issues since my allowance was limited (and they were back issues at back issue prices), I loved what I did read. Went with the regular cover since it reflected much of the omnibus's contents. Very happy Spider-Man is the first hero with a fifth omnibus.
19:09 The title of that story, ...And the wind cries Cyclone is a homage of sorts to the Jimi Hendrix song The Wind Cries Mary. That is something people my age would have recognized way back when and still to this day. New readers won't understand that association. It's like how I don't like smart phones and how I don't know about tons of stuff in this generation. Every generation has something drilled into their head or they simply just pick it up and learn to recognize something.
Omar, if you did a Map My Web/Map My Spidey video for a potential Volume 6 what do you think that would be? Because after this is Marv Wolfman & Keith Pollard's run from 182-204, then Denny O'Neil and JRJR's run from 207-223 (plot credit and DeMatteis script), then good ol' Uncle Roger Stern's run begins. Plus there are 3 Annuals during this time. That's probably too many issues but it would be weird to end it in the middle of Denny's short run but that might be exactly what they'll have to do.
Thanks Omar. I’ve had this preordered since day one. Can’t wait. It’s way thinner than the other volumes which is ok for me as I don’t have much shelf space left. Any word on FF vol 3 reprint? Ha e you got your copy yet? It’s currently scheduled to come out Sep 8 along side vol 4 but I’m confident it will get delayed since you don’t have a copy yet.
Definitely picking this up. Some classic Spidey stuff in here. Have to say I agree with you Omar, I've always loved Ross Andru's version of Spidey and have also thought that it's very under rated. We need that Nova omnibus though!
I read most or all of those issues some thirty five years ago. I look at you flipping through those issues and the quality of the stories was still pretty good and the art too. I remember that by about issue 178 or so I either got bored or the stories started to bore me. Around that time it seems that ASM started to lose something. Or maybe I just had abandoned that phase of my life. I wasn't a huge comics fan but the experiences in the books that I did read over the years are very special to me still. I'm a sucker for nostalgia.
My spines are going to look really weird, i have vol 2 and 4 with the old spines, 3,5 and 1(hopefully!??Potentially!?!?) reprints, its not the biggest issue but man is it gonna look weird
My copy arrives tomorrow, can't wait! This volume pretty much completes the Spiderman run that I grew up with (Ditko/ Romita/ Andru); I'm absolutely looking forward to a Winter read through from the first Omni to the end of this one. Won't have much time for much else (even though volumes 2 - 4 of Fantastic Four have arrived over the past few weeks, yikes).
This looks great. Ross Andre is my favourite Spidey artist after Ditko so this going to be final omnibus. I read the title after Andre left but this is the last run that I will buy in hardcover.
I agree with you, after Andru's run that's the end of Spidey for me. I grew up reading the UK reprints in the early 1970s that ran in weekly issues Ditko through to Romita through to Andru. Glorious few years growing up with new Spidey every week. I plan on a complete read through of all five Omni's.
Hi Omar Thanks for the vid. But I'm little confused. ASM 1 = 1 -38 ASM 2 = 39 - 67 ASM 3 = 68 - 104 ASM 4 = 105 - 142 ASM 5 = 143 - 180 And then you got little gap there, 181 - 223. This is probably ASM 6. Then you got Spiderman - Roger Stern Omnibus, which is 224 - 252. Do you think, Marvel will rename this to ASM 7 ? And there is a gap again, from 253 - 296. Which omnibus do i need for this? ASM by T.MacFarlane and D. Michelinie 296 - 329. ASM by D.Michelinie and Erik Larsen 329 - 350. But 351 - 575? Which omnibus do I need for this? Greets,
When I look back this was my era. I still had romita and Kaine covers an awful lot but also great andru covers and main story art work. I loved the interlock stories such as the lead up to doc ock and hammerhead story and obviously other great stories. Romita snr was art director during the mid late 70s so his work is still there and to me that was appreciated. Excelsior omar as always.
Now for a Vol. 6 with 44 Issues to perfectly line up with the Roger Stern omnibus 🤘🤘
It gives me a lot of trust in the Marvel mappings. Is this the first series where we can actually see the transitional seam so perfectly?

Thanks for the review. The original covers are so much nicer than the new standard covers. Ross Andru was a great artist, but I think your comment was made when you were looking at Sal Buscema drawings.
Ross Andru is my favorite spider-man artist therefore this is a must buy for me
Hey Omar, any news on a volume 4 reprint? It’s the only one I don’t own/have ordered
15:21 Even as a kid, Frank Miller was right about Ditko and Andru.
Eyes are for seeing.
I love the covers by Romita during this era
At this point, they don’t care.
I mean, they've been randomly changing their DLX HC spines for years now.
@@balkthor thats what they did with the Ta-Nehisi Coates Black Panther DLX hc. Vol 1 is a translucent photo spine, while 2&3 are white background.
Obligatory spine comment here, thanks Marvel 😘
Then we need a Mark Bagley omnibus.
@@Kade_Kapes oh man, Bagley is my favorite artist.. 🙂
Have to say , I dont like them shrinking the font on the sides of these new omnibuses
Hola Omar! en la parte de non-spoilers del video muestras una página con un gran spoiler para quienes no leyeron estas maravillosas historias de nuestra adolescencia. Saludos y gran trabajo!
Hi Omar, I can’t wait for this. It looks so good, I’m getting the DM cover. I hope we get a vol 6 to fill the gap. Thanks Omar
Delighted that we're getting this. Not really a fan of that Medina cover though so I'm glad I've ordered the Kane DM variant. Looking forward to this one getting delivered. Thanks for the overview Omar.
Thank you for this overview Omar
I can't wait to get my hands on this one!
This omnibus collects the "chaos at the coffee bean" story which is John Romita Jr's first published work
It makes me want to cry seeing volume 5 next to the other volumes.
Cant wait to get my mitts on this omnibus!! I just love the 1970's artwork and all i need now is Vol 3 to complete this set. Im actually reading Spiderman by Roger Stern omnibus right now and having a blast.
I can't get enough of those new spines. So awesome, luckily I upped my reading glass strength to see it!
Another great looking book and another great video. I pre-ordered the iconic classic cover edition.
Can’t wait
Love Spider Man
As well as the different design, the spine seems a bit thinner compared to previous volumes when you consider the page count.
@@WhoniverseReview DC also redid those Teen Titans books. They added in missing issues and the binding on those old ones wasn’t great.
@@WhoniverseReview That's 100% correct. I can't believe how many people don't understand this.
I actually mix all my different kinds of books together. Mine are in alphabetical and in issue order, not by format.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this, the DM cover looks epic ! Ordered my copy from IST, just need Vol 1,3, and 4 now so I can actually start reading them ! Does anyone know if we are getting a reprint of Vol 1 next year ?
Yoooooooo Omar deft getting the DM cover all my omnis are the old school covers!! The new spine messing me up from my other 4 but it’s deft a hot book
It's thicker than that. Which surprises me sometimes when I get books printed there.
I very nearly bought this just for the DM cover.
I'm an X-Men guy, but that ASM 155 cover easily is in my top 3 of all time.
Horrid New Spine, Looks Like Azzzz, Make Mine Marvel ! PS great video, we know you're just the messenger Omar !
That's probably too many issues but it would be weird to end it in the middle of Denny's short run but that might be exactly what they'll have to do.
would love to see superman reading order ?
I just started collecting these with Vol 2. Looks like that will be my only old style spine? Ugh
Thanks for sharing! I'm getting the classic cover of this book.
I might be way off but that Ross Andru art gives me a strong Dave Gibbons vibe. Good overview as usual.
Idk I might have to put this next to the defenders omnibus that's what it looks like it goes with
My spines are going to look really weird, i have vol 2 and 4 with the old spines, 3,5 and 1(hopefully!??Potentially!?!?) reprints, its not the biggest issue but man is it gonna look weird
So I was looking through tales of wonder and saw that there is a Hickman X-men omnibus coming out!!! Say whaaaat?! I’m so stoked for that!
If you think that's cool, check out the letters pages for FF #22. It has letters from both Dave Cockrum AND Roy Thomas!
The mismatched spine would look ugly especially when displayed together, but I sure am glad we are so.close.to getting everything ASM in omni format
Awww yeah! Now I just need to find vol. 3 & 4.
3 is getting a reprint this month
This looks great. Ross Andre is my favourite Spidey artist after Ditko so this going to be final omnibus. I read the title after Andre left but this is the last run that I will buy in hardcover.
I agree with you, after Andru's run that's the end of Spidey for me. I grew up reading the UK reprints in the early 1970s that ran in weekly issues Ditko through to Romita through to Andru. Glorious few years growing up with new Spidey every week. I plan on a complete read through of all five Omni's.
Sold quickly probably because it's so well put together ❤
For Spidey artist I love JRJRs work with JMS. Some of my favourite comic art, let alone Spider-Man art.
*grumble grumble*
Sadly going to sell my volume 1 and 4... Can't stand this new spine layout...
Ross Andru is great, way underrated
I think Spectacular omni is coming out 2022 because it was released after ASM #162 and that's in this book. Just a feeling
Oh, yeah. I've already order that omni, as well as #3. Have you heard something about 2 and 4? 👀
I hope to see these stories in the epic collection soon
Hi Omar
Thanks for the vid. But I'm little confused.
ASM 1 = 1 -38
ASM 2 = 39 - 67
ASM 3 = 68 - 104
ASM 4 = 105 - 142
ASM 5 = 143 - 180
And then you got little gap there, 181 - 223.
