As a brief aside, the early XYZ era was tons of fun for young/rookie players. Xyz were super easy to obtain and understand, so everyone had them. For a precious few years, you could get into yugioh with a "good stuff" deck using xyz for some much-needed power.
When 2012 rolls around, Konami will release a budget friendly product that fans love to this day. Stay tuned!!
Ah Trishula, the best Infernity support ever made
This is when I really started understanding how the game worked beyond the playground, and we're coming up on my favorite period of the game. My first regional happened this year! I did terrible with Solidarity Six Sam.
I had six samurai when they got all their new support. It was the only time in the game I had the best deck at the time. I miss this era. Right before xyz and changing the game forever

As a new player, understanding how it all began, reasoning why some things got hit with banlist throught years, deck archetypes from oldest to nowadays ones, this is INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. I wish you don't stop making these, and we can enjoy every year of yu gi oh. Thank you!

What's interesting to me about Rabbit, and BLS, is that a rule change is what nerfed them

Now this era of yugioh from 2011-duelist alliance will alway be my favorite time I played yugioh. In 2010 I graduate highs school and I didn’t play once through high school as my locals was an hour away and I didn’t have a car. But a few month after I was in a terrible accident that took my mom and nearly took my life. Well during my recovery my little brother friends came over and started playing yugioh and that got me so excited I found all my old cards and played with them and it was off to the races after that my passion for the game was reignited. I used some of my settlement money to buy some cards to take to my old locals. I didn’t even know what a synchro monster was and my first day I went was actually the release of the first xyz structure deck and I was so blown away by both the new monster types that even though I got my butt kick playing and old 2006 deck I was hooked and began to learn how to play the new way. Well over the next few years I made some of the best life long friends I have, me and my brother got extremely close playing together and you know what I don’t think there’s a format I don’t love playing during this time I look bad I go yup love to ya able to play any of them again. I miss playing agents, dinorabbit, windups, geargia, dragunity ruler, mermail, Madolche. I still love playing the modern game I’m really not that hard to please I can find something to like in any format but those year will alway hold a special place in my heart

At long last, life got tough and it took 3 different attempts, but I finally got to watch this recap! These recaps are perfect for me as from 2008 to 2019, Yugioh was not in my life anymore.

Early 2012 in YGO is a doozy of a period. We're on the cusp of a format that many players, some even to this day, found extremely frustrating, and it includes what a lot of people still consider to be the single worst banlist update of all time.
In my opinion this was the peak year for yugioh, I was a kid at the time so it could just be nostalgia talking😂
2011 was such an insane year in Yugioh. I often regret not playing during that time :(
2010 tins also brought promos right? There was DAD, Vayu, Stratos in some of them

I don’t know if anyone else find this a bit inconsistent or annoying, but the names of the karukuris, are just not the same, the main deck monsters are being called by their name after “Karakuri” but the synchros being called by their names in quotation marks, and would like to see them at least be consistent throughout, I know a small gripe but great series! Been listening to them all and need more lol, you’re making me relive my childhood through these videos, I get vivid memories of when the cards actually came out, the decks I was playing or where I was with friends! Thanks!

I still remember everyone loved the meta Rogue decks were fully viable you had anywhere from 15 to 20 decks/archetypes making tops
It truly felt like every deck was viable
And then it turned to modern day yugioh, gotta have an answer every single turn, no more set backrow and wait for next draw.

16:39 - Whoa now. Sir. How can you say that with the best Lv1 Wind Dragon Tuner to search off Tempest in 2013 on the middle of the screen? Also shoutout to Dragunity Knight - Barcha who was released in this set. It was awful during this time but BOY HOWDY did that ever change once we got to Link Summoning.
I'm so mad about Tour Guide still. I was desperately searching for her for the first two weeks after Extreme Victory, knowing how good she'd be for the upcoming mechanic. She was such a cheap secret, that no one even bothered picking them up, and because I was a broke high-schooler, I had no money to outright buy her. After that, she shot up to 200 a copy, immediately rendering her out of reach.
Lost Sanctuary was my first competitive deck, I wanted to play T.G. but Librarian was a promo and I could not get it, so I ended up playing TG Agents.
I still have some cards but don't play anymore. I miss these times.

Outside of Maxx "C" and a few others, I actually hated Storm of Ragnarok overall. Me and my group still bring up that set from time to time just to speak on it. Extreme Victory also had dogwater ratios. I barely pulled T.G. Rush Rhino, A RARE.
All the cards weren't terrible, it was the ratios from pulls that felt so goofy. When you are a high schooler with limited funds and trades, you want pulls worth something. My friend did have a godly box though.

nope, it wasn't. TCG Exclusives / OCG Imports even at this stage were listed in slots 80-99 of the set code. Hunter was slot 24 and has to this day only been printed once in both the TCG and OCG, both in Photon Shockwave.

@@HalfarDM are you kidding? It became a 3 deck rps format that no other deck could hold up to after one of the worst banlists in yugioh that caused one of the lowest points in yugioh's history. Then it eventually became a 2 deck format when dragon rulers came around and only got better after one of the largest banlists ever
