I pulled a Sixth Sense right at the height of the hype. I was over the moon! The only problem was: every duelist and their dog knew it'd get banned any time soon. Which left me with a card that was theoretically worth about £40 but realistically valued about £5. I spent an entire day trying to shift the damn thing for anything resembling a fair deal (to me at least) before bitterly giving up and cramming it in my commons tin out of spite!
It's so funny knowing that Tachyon Galaxy made Harpies a somewhat reliable Rank 7 strategy, as far as i know the first semi-competent one, and then pumped out D Rulers in the same set
Glad you reached the same conclusion as I did regarding dragon rulers tier 0 status, just like you I was under the impression that they NEVER reached tier 0 status in the tcg because of spellbooks(of judgment), when in reality they did just not how everyone expected shortly after, glad you brought light into this discrepancy and granted DL their deserved recognition in the tier 0 hall of fame.
This is the time i started playing yugioh forreal. This was the game for me back then bro. I just remember playing all of these decks on dueling network and Devpro. Ahhhh, the memories are flooding in. Good video dude
First of all I loooooove this Series 😍😍😍 thank you so much for your Hard work! So funny that you are talking about the Fire King Structure Deck when it is currently AGAIN in the Meta haha!
I find it really cool that konami used the names of 2 greek heros, Castor and Pollux, for 2 monsters in 2 basically opposite archetypes released in the same set, with the same effect.
Of note: Ruler format is what many would consider a “tier 0.5” or “pseudo-tier 0” format, wherein there are 2-3 decks that are functionally tier 0 and only held back by each other. 3-deck 0.5s are incredibly rare, but Ruler and Spellbook were insanely dominant and this is likely what people refer it to as a tier 0 format for. Many disagree with the 0.5 term entirely, but I do think it’s a good way of encapsulating formats like release Rulers.
The era i started really playing. LOTG was the first booster box i bought hoping for a draccosack. Unfortunately unable to get one, but made mecha phantom beasts work with gustov armory arm as my strategy.
Most of said misinformation comes from Duel Logs and he is incredibly biased. I stopped taking that guy seriously cause he constantly contradicts himself, and he's pretty much turned into a knock off Rata
I would argue that there is two different versions of what you would call modern yugioh post LTGY. Pre-DUEA and Post-DUEA. The yugioh post DUEA is so different that I think that mini era from LTGY to PRIO should be its own separate mention
While watching you gave me an idea, When you say this archetype got support or was released too late what if you went back and released it in a special format kind like the progression series? Where each year a few booster and side sets would become available with new archetypes that should of been released soon than they were.
Always nice to watch, but Emptiness was in Starstrike Blast, not Shining Darkness. Also, Reactan is by the same sentiment proposed, an out to Jowgen, as it has 1800 atk. Thanks for the hard work on the video!
Ive gotten into a habit with these videos where i always wanna wait for Josh to react but i also want TheLawYGO to get the views/ad revenue - so i leave the video playing whilst i walk the dog.
The September 2013 list is somehow one of the best and worst lists of all time. It shook up the format, which is good, but to just a different variation of dragon rulers. People really liked HERO and stratos being banned is a crime, but it didn’t push new product, so bye bye HERO, why not try a newer control deck. I don’t know whether Konami thought banning the babies was enough, or they did a slap on the wrist to push product? Plus why hit judgement? Limit fate or ban secrets, but they killed the only rival, then hit all I the other decks so that DR was still the top deck! The list is monumental with how many changes it made and it was cool to see, but it didn’t change the game for the better.
@@johnathanlemus5584at least sixth sense wasn’t $100. They kinda missed the mark not putting a stable secret rare in a Joey side set. At least Konami learnt their lesson with bonfire.
If your definition of tier 0 excludes Dragon Ruler/Spellbook format, then the definition needs to be reevaluated. Those decks were utterly dominant and excluded nearly all other strategies from competition. The fact that they competed with one another and as a result had a lower individual metagame share is not indicative of a lack of potency.
These videos will never be popular you waste SO MUCH time just reading cards that are literally on screen?? Are uou just trying to extend the time are you do you just care? Either way big swing and a miss
It feels incredible timely to talk about the origins of Fire Kings NOW in early 2024 when they're a major meta deck.
Tfw you started playing fire kings all the way back in 2014 and stopped playing yugioh after introduction of links and master rule 4
Babe, wake up, the next Yugioh nostalgia train is here!
Babe, go back to bed, someone posted that generic comment again.

@@vivianelandim9483that was 10 years later but yes
It's a pity cause channeller being able to pivot to rank 4 or rank 7 plays depending on what you need was really fun too
Harpies got their revenge in spades in Duel Links at least.
@@felixdaniels37 Do they even have the Rulers in Duel Links?
I never understood why the Dark Worlds were reprinted in Joey’s World. What did Joey have to do with the GX bad guy archetype
Problem money
He dueled Marik in a shadow game taking place in a « dark world » 😂

Love these videos! I'm glad someone else finally showed how DRs were tier zero, I thought I was alone lol
20:36 So this year was the dragon ruler format 47:34 i love that description of the "major strategies"
49:42 i loved this change of mood

One of the best RUclips series i ever watched
11 years leater, and Zenmaity is STILL banned.

This is the first year of yugioh history that I didn’t get to experience myself, so it’ll be interesting to hear about it.
I find it really cool that konami used the names of 2 greek heros, Castor and Pollux, for 2 monsters in 2 basically opposite archetypes released in the same set, with the same effect.
My era. I recall there being a major problem with evilswarm castor where a judge incorrectly ruled that his effect could be negated by effect veiler.

I remember going Crane + Honest and nuking the field. Over 10 years ago I am old 😂
I still remember just how shocked and upset all the yugioh players were at my lgs the minute the sept. banlist came down.
Even though the rulers are over designed, they sure are fun and splashable.
So many cool stuff in this one

Oh yeah don’t talk about my favourite Starter Deck of all time, V For Victory at all….. Yes I know it wasn’t impactful…. Still my baby

Awesome videos but you really need to start checking how to pronounce European city names
Tachyon galaxy is the reason for more people quitting the game than any other set release.
