I always find it funny to watch these meta recaps of like 2004-7 when I played in elementary school and see how far off my decks were from the meta. Man it was something else lol
2005 was such a fun year. My childhood friend had finally gotten into Yugioh and we’d try to pull Nephtys because we thought it was the coolest card ever. Neither of us ever did though lol
😂😂 this was literally the case in Greece. Everyone here was playing nephthys. It was like the meta here, everyone had nephthys decks with vampire lords. I remember i had like 3 bottomless trap holes main deck, until people dropped these cards when pot of avarice and tree born came you know
I'm so glad you decided to make such a comprehensive video on one of the most beloved Yugioh formats. The way your writing just allows history to flow across the screen and illustrate the ups and downs of our game is seriously amazing. I cannot wait to see what's next in store!
@@TheLawYGO damn, hope you get out of it soon. Zexal era was when I started playing so I'd love to see it fully covered still no rush though. Rushed products are never good
God I love this year, zombie madness was the first Structure deck where I actually used it to get better at the game as opposed to how I used them before. Made me forever a zombie fan
This was the time. My time on YuGiOh. This was when the game was best (maybe + 1 year or so). I still miss playing this. Nowadays it just lost all its magic.
Fucking finally. The type of content I was looking for to fill in some blanks. Coming back to the game 15 years later and it’s kind of hard to find meta recaps for every single year up to modern day
4:16 I competed in Cbus. Didn’t end up doing too well…I think like X-3, but had fun with machines and triple limit removal. Was a fun time in the game history.
As you pointed out, Flaming Eternity is debated whenever it's class as the final DM set or the first GX era set. To the OCG, it's the first GX set as Yugi is gone from the set cover, but Jaden is on the cover for Japanese posters for the set. This is due to the set coming out in Nov 2004, a month after GX already started airing in Japan. However, when you break down the cards in Flaming Eternity, on top of the set was being worked on while DM was still airing in Japan, It's clearly meant to be the final DM set. Two of the Ultra Rares in the set, Silent Swordsman LV.5 and Gearfried The Swordmaster are two boss monsters used by Yugi and Joey in the final leg of DM's run. A lot of cards used in the very first episode of GX don't come out until the following booster set as well. My personal belief is Flaming Eternity is the final DM set that the OCG marketed as a GX product, to avoid confusion with retails, card shops and TV Tokyo as it was the first time the card game was moving into a new era. It also would shock me if Flaming Eternity was thrown together at the last minute, in case they couldn't get GX out on time, as The late Kazuki Takahashi was finding it hard to finish DM's final arc, due to being very sick at the time. Kazuki's sickness and final arc only having 3 duels where they play the card game might be why we ended up getting the DOMA and KCGP arcs in the DM anime.
The drop off in card art quality from the previous sets to lost millenium is really evident to me, you can really see the transition from classic to modern yugioh there aesthetically i think
I don't know why but here in Greece the meta was Nephthys decks with vampire lords and multiple brain controls 🤣🤣I remember i was running 3 bottomless trap holes. This changed though, when pot of avarice n tree born frog came.
The reason for that change was that " we " played monarchs since treeborn frog was a free tribute. So in theory every monarch d just crush with nephthys and ofc it d beat vampire lord. And ofc monarchs were playing snatch steal, brain controls n soul exchange so nephtys n the zombie were useless unfortunately 🤣
I'm sorry, but how did the player at 30:11 summon Dark Necrofear? His list doesn't even include 3 Fiends to banish for it. 1 is Goblin Elite and the other is Sangan.

I wanted one too as a kid. Sick cover card. Was psyched when it got reprinted as a special edition (se) box promo in elemental energy

Happy to have a Law Video in 2023! Excited for big things to come this year.
the formating and info of this one reallly gives it a shine, pretty great video
I loved the history of duel links series. Will it ever come back?
It will at some point this year, writers block sucks
@@TheLawYGO looking forward to it, it’s one of my favourite series

Just an Idea, Maybe to get back into Duel links, you could continue the YGO Duel Links Progression Series?
God I love this year, zombie madness was the first Structure deck where I actually used it to get better at the game as opposed to how I used them before. Made me forever a zombie fan
Man I love these "year review" videos. Thanks for the amazing content :)
Great vid as always, i'm also waiting for the RR on the first format of GX
As someone who was actively playing in 2005 this was an insane year for reprints
I just check this channel like an hour ago and then- Boom

So crazy how unchanged the game was for a long stretch, deko had a 5-6 year run and the 20 12 8 rule was almost a staple itself.
I remember coming up with that ratio on my own thinking I was some sort of deck building genius 😂
In which meta
I don't remember any meta with this ratio lol
how it all started for me ty for bringing up fond memories

awesome! that league of legends-like bgm at the started had me matchmaking-alert
Nice video! I would have liked to hear about the world championship of 2005 as well
There wasn't much coverage that year.
Berserk Gorilla mentioned
it u
Thank God I found a new series to binge 😁
It’s so weird seeing all the cards I had as a kid
This is a masterpiece
Compulsory Evacuation Device was a rare it wasn’t exactly difficult to get your hands on
The TFT music in the background tho had me confused for a second 🤣
I hope you'll be discussing about the 2007 through 2009 formats at the time, like Perfect Circle all the way towards Edison.

On top of that you had also pot of avarice so you didn't want to return to deck nephthys n vampire lord LOL.
Love your Videos man ❤️
Time to learn about Yu-Gi-Oh in the year I was born
This was great
Oh i loved that one a lot
I retooled that warrior deck into a ben kai otk deck.
12:14 how did the deck have less than 40 cards
RIP duel network

cheating lol
Not the first structure decks!
2006 next.
I don't think Nephthys is pronounced Nef-tees, it looks like it should be Nef-this
