Unless a revision or clarification was made in the OCG to say otherwise (of which I may be unaware) Prime-Heart actually does not require any non-tuner monsters, so the card just like XX-Saber Gottoms can be summoned with only tuners. Gottoms with earth and Prime-Heart with Light.
To make synchro fusions work as a mechanic you basically have to build the archetype around easily making the synchros then fusing them, without losing so much advantage that it's not worth it.
When it comes to the start of synchro summons, it's cool to look at how Konami handled tuner monsters: many tuner monsters introduced in the early days can either special summon themselves (gale), summon other monsters (junk synchron) or protect themselves (dark resonator, krebons). I think they learned from the days of Xyz dragon cannon and neo spacians and tried to make tuners effective synchro enablers instead of bricky summoning pieces with no synergy
This is incorrect in some aspect. Many early tuners were unplayable garbage. Every vanilla tuner, many early level 1 - 3 tuners were tuners are bricks and don't do anything substantial. Level 4 tuners were the worst cause Konami feared easy level 8 synchros despite Summoner Monk existence. After many FTK and OTK decks in early Synchro format Konami started overbalancing tuners.
I feel like synchro was a really well thought out mechanic because of how little the summoning mechanic change, while the synchro monster themselves started to become stronger.
Fusions had to change because of how poorly designed they were in the early days. With Synchros Konami already had a better idea of what they were doing.
@@Asim-nm1bc XYZ monsters are overall more balanced in terms of long game because you have to use an overlay unit to activate an effect, the issue is just that because they have a downside like that Konami thought that was enough to balance out completely broken monsters who are broken regardless how you summon them...
When I first saw a synchro it was in a structure deck. 5DS wasn't available for me yet so I had no idea about the new mechanic. They've been my favourite type of card ever since
One thing worth noting is that the ocg pretty much stopped printing synchros altogether from the beginning of Zexal to judgment of the light. It was less noticeable in the tcg because we were still getting synchros in the form of ocg imports
To add insult to injury, we had "Cannot be used as Synchro material" tacked on half of the new cards at the time. They were so blatant about selling the new mechanic.
@fedrikrose2277 As far as I can remember, only one fusion monster was used in 5D's and only used one time. I couldn't tell you what the monster was but I think it was the main character that summoned it I'm drawing a blank on his name at the moment.
@@theanystrom2882There were two, actually. The one you’re thinking of is Draco-Equiste, summoned by Yusei, but Jack used Multiple Piece Golem a few times as well.
The philosophy behind current synchros is "how many times can we remake Quasar" While Synchros decks do put out other forms of interaction, most of the negation in yugioh seems to come out from synchros(Nat beast, Barrone, Borreload, ETC)
Personally I blame MR4 the most for that kind of design shift in synchros. MR4 gutted the synchro summon mechanic so hard because their most prominent ones needed synchros as materials and having such limited access to your synchros in MR4 was horrendous. So to compensate they started making generic synchros that people would actually deem worth playing in that miserable master rule
I'll always say this to this day when it comes to the 5D's anime and the Blackwings archetype as a whole at the time. Blackwing Armor Master was the perfect boss monster for Crow, he didn't need a Dragon "a very underwhelming and dissapointing one at that when it comes to the rest of the Signer Dragons"
Crow and Reo/Leo got screwed the most with their signer dragons. Red Dragon Archefiend was good for a while, but immediately got powercrept. Stardust was good and could be summoned with Starlight Road. Black Rose Dragon was the best. Ancient Fairy Dragon wasn't good, but became good with the errata it got as a consequence of the change to field spells. Life Stream Dragon is just worse than Power Tool Dragon, that actually saw some play in synchro spam decks due to it being able to add equip cards that summon monsters from GY or that are banished.
Synchros are my all time faves and what got me back in the game back in 2010. Arc-V and Vrains eras were real sad times for Synchro based archetypes with them always getting massive nerfs with type/attribute restrictions, lack of searching, barely getting Special Summon and being slow overall. Thankfully we still had splashable Tuners and engines to work with non-Synchro focused decks, themes like BA, DDD and Pendulum Magicians who used multiple Summons or great combinations like Yang Zing + Metalfoes which was one of my favorite deck and Invoked + Windwitch. The post Vrains era is being amazing for Synchro archetypes given the little restrictions and high-quality support, I loved Adamancipators, Infernoble Knights, Swordsoul and P.U.N.K so much.
Synchrons were a pretty big thing back in the day and still are, Blackwings also getting a bigger boost than you showed! T.G.s also got a boost in new Synchro Monsters as well as a Link 3, which requires a T.G. Tuner among its material and summons out one T.G. each from your Hand, Deck and Graveyard, allowing you to float into their new Synchro Tuner, Star Guardian, who adds a T.G. back to your Hand from your Graveyard on Summon and has a hard Once Per Turn allowing you Summon out a T.G. from your Hand, not to mention Main Deck T.G. monsters old (Drill Fish, Gear Zombie and Metal Skeleton) finally getting a release, but new as well (Screw Serpent, Booster Raptor and Tank Grub)! Plus, now Wonder Magician sees play for her backrow destruction! Not to mention they have a new Accel Synchro in Shooting Star Dragon T.G. Ex (I play "T.G. Hybrid Turbo," so...)! One thing to note is that T.G. actually introduced the Synchro Tuner, though, back then they worked a tad different and were known as "Tech Genus" (which "T.G." stands for), doubled up as Machine Monsters and had a code after their name of, with the Main Deck monsters at least, two letters based on their printed type followed by a number, though I'm not 100% on that number's meaning! For example, the Lv 1, Spellcaster Tuner, "T.G. Cyber Magician" was "Tech Genus Cyber Magician SC-01" originally! The Extra Deck monsters were even more outlandish!
It’s crazy just how powerful E-Tele is in Master Duel at this moment with the Ishizu cards and the P.U.N.K engine. Uninterrupted, it’s at the very least a multi negate/multi disruption board with the ability to deck the opponent out in the Necroface build.
Synchro is my favorite mechanic because you actually needed to think to make a deck, too many tuners and you would brick, not enough tuners and you will have a hard time playing. Also, the 5Ds Starter Deck was my "first" deck. I wish Konami would have made the Dark Synchros instead of the mecha bears.
mecha bears = ursactic ? Also dark synchros were clunky as hell, you need a very high level dark tuner to bring them out. Unironically I think that anime hundred eyes would be balanced if it couldn't be cheated out given how clunky it is.
Always liked synchro monsters one of my favorites was Dark HIghlander when I read the 5ds manga. I always wondered if he was ever used during the synchro era to just shut down decks with his effect
One thing I like about Synchros is that keeping track of your levels matter. Yes there are XYZ monsters, but often an archetype has multiple monsters of the same level, so doing something like "special summon 3 monsters from your hand or deck, then going into XYZ" isn't something where you usually need to actually keep track of them.

quick question. Was the day of release of this video planned? Bc, this the same day where main villain of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Z-ONE (in which he wanted to END world of Synchros), has it's release event in Duel Links. If not, then that's some pretty nice timing.
Synchro summoning is my favorite summoning mechanic with colossal fighter being one of my favorite cards ever. I've used a deck focused on him and his assault mode since both first came out and used today in my war rock/infernoble/assault mode deck. When it comes to pure synchro focused deck dragunity is another deck I've been nonstop playing since day one and loving it as time goes on but also is the only dragon/wind deck I'll ever play.
Synchro monsters have to be my favorite extra deck mechanic. It’s just a shame that they made a lot of them so generic. I think having some generic staples is fine, but they really went overboard with it, I think. Stuff like Baronne being completely generic dumbfounds me, as it should’ve been required to have Fleur Synchron as it’s tuner. Others, such as Psychic End Punisher being generic is also confusing, as it could’ve easily been locked into having Psychic monsters as it’s materials and still have been good, just not usable in nearly every deck. A lot of problem Synchro monsters wouldn’t be problems if they were type/attribute/archetype locked. Not only that, but sometimes Konami nerfs originally good synchro monsters from the show or manga to being useless because they made them generic to summon instead of being specific. A good example of this is T.G. Halberd Cannon. For the same effort needed to summon Shooting Quasar Dragon, all you get is a single summon negate. No bonus attacks, no floating into an extra deck monster, just a OPT summon negate and summoning a different T.G. Monster from grave WHEN it does, not IF, so it misses timing hard. Stuff like the Junk Synchron monsters are cool, because they all required the same tuner. Not only that; but with the release of Synchro Overtake, these kinds of strategies that require the specific tuners have gotten a boost, since the card basically acts like a Fusion Deployment for these synchros. Putting more limitations on synchro materials would’ve made for more interesting deck building and variety, instead of everyone running the same overpowered staple cards in every deck.

Other than that, virtual world and adamancipator are mixed mechanics, punk is more of an engine, and the rest are different flavors of first turn 20 negates wombo combo.
I'm still left scratching my head why Shooting Star and Red Nova were errata'd to return in the next end phase instead of the same end phase they negate an attack. Not like they were doing much here. Maybe Lavals in the OCG were guilty.

because it wasnt relevant until the Link era. I mention it later with Destrudo for that reason.
While afd was one of the early synchros, there simply were no really good targets available for a long time
You are not even mention a fish that can synchro summon? Im disappointed
after watching, came to the comments to see if anyone was talking about ghoti, and im surprised to see no discussion on it. its the most creative synchro deck to date, and pushes the mechanic further, even if its not meta.
Man forgot like the best synchro released within the past year psychic end punisher.
Also no infernoble knights, no mention of multiple tuners with Red Nova Dragon and no look into the rulebook of Synchros
@@weltgeist2143 in case of infernoble its mentioned at 29:41
@@vyrax401 whoops sorry

Synchro what?
Ok weird story
I have an unexplainable hatred for baroness
I don’t know why it started or when , but for some reason I can’t stand that stupid card
Women 😡
But jk I hate it too
@@Honest_Mids_Masher what’s up with women?
@@omegon2540 I'm kidding I'm kidding but yeah didn't you know Barrone de fleur is a woman riding a horse?
@@Honest_Mids_Masher apologies
I am an idiot
@@omegon2540 no worries lmao
Nordics were so bad they weren’t even mentioned
Synchro was slow enough to not change the game speed . Xyz was ok ish , depends on the monster . But link is just BS
Get rid of chavelior
Synchros/Xyz are goated. Pendulums shouldn't have happened. Link summon is based
First?
they turned this game to complete trash with synchros and all the other new bs. went from have a competitive deck that could stand its own in championship duels to getting blasted out in the first turn screw this game.
