Manga Stratos can halve its attack and attack directly.
That's it. That's all it does on its own.
yeah haha and absolute zero just has a stupid attack boost effect according to the number of water heroes in the GY or something like that.
lol. stratos was banned irl for some time , wasn't it
Shadow mist was a normal monster
@@yanliechockiwhich is awful compared to the Raigeki on death that the physical card has, it’s a really good card for formats limited to when it came out if the opponent isn’t a control heavy deck
Chazz invented synchros apparently
The manga’s author actually makes a note at the end of one of the chapters lamenting how Konami decided to make Light End and Dark End into synchros, because he intended them to be main deck monsters and didn’t want to use synchros (which were still a very new game mechanic at the time)
@@victikirby15do you remember what the note said?
@@victikirby15 He also mentioned he was disappointed they got turned into synchros since he couldn't make a manga-accurate Chazz deck.
@@victikirby15
On the plus side, this did have a positive effect on Shadow's Light and Duality when they got printed so they could cheat stuff out from the ED as well. But this only happened years after and it's still a bummer that we'll never get manga accurate Light End and Dark End.
On a semi related note, I still want to know why they made Bastion's manga Yokai Fusion, Goka, into a maindeck monster.
Edit: *it's still a bummer that we'll never get manga accurate Light End and Dark End*
:)
@@victikirby15
OH
Fun fact the author of the manga was surprised and shocked that light end and dark end dragon became synchros.
He even asked if he could use them in a staff GX tournament as regular Effect monsters for his Chazz/Manjoume deck, but was told no.
Me too!
And now we got Dark End Evaporation Dragon and Light End Sublimation Dragon. The main deck dragons they were meant to be.
I will never forget what they did to Chazz in the manga. The most compelling Yugioh character ever imo, who got to defeat his rival in the rematch…. made to be a complete fool in the very next chapter to paint Zane as an elite duelist, then proceeding to never use Zane again. What was the point of that exactly?
Other than him being given a win against Judai, what exactly is there to Manga Manjoume that the anime version didn't do better?
@@Zetact_ I’m actually not the biggest fan of anime Manjoume. His entire growth as a character is very hypocritical I feel. He goes through a redemption arc where he loses his deck and is taught to be appreciative of weaker cards, even going through a huge win streak after assembling such a deck, and then immediately gets rewarded by… obtaining a rare monster (Armed Dragon) given to him in the same exact manner as how the VWXYZ was given to him by Cronos, changing his deck entirely? It’s like he learned nothing! He also still uses VWXYZ despite that life lesson arc.
It’s a shame, as I think that anime Manjoume had a ton of potential as a character that couldve unlearned his privilege and proved to be talented even without having access to rare cards. Him, Judai, and Misawa form a really cool rivalry triangle (strength through opportunity, talent, and dedication, respectively) but I think anything that’s enjoyable about him becomes chewed up by how he’s handled after his redemption arc. Doesnt help that he becomes reduced to comic relief either
@@fameshark His development didn't end the moment he put on the black coat, it was just a catalyst that pushed him forward. What you need to keep in mind is that he fiddles with his deck throughout the series. While he appreciated weaker monsters, he still hadn't been challenged on that until he was forced to make his "under 500 ATK" deck, which symbolized him advancing beyond his familial pressures.
Sometimes pushing it towards VWXYZ and sometimes a little more Armed Dragon but he consistently stuck with Ojamas as the core - when he tells Ojama Yellow, "You're my Ace Monster" it's entirely genuine.
Letting him become more comedic also is tied to the main idea of his character arc - he's not supposed to be some unstoppable badass character that his brothers want him to be.
While I do think that Manjoume could have been presented as a stronger duelist (on-screen, if you count his offscreen he still wins a ton of important matches including the entire Genex tournament), his anime arc is so much more than "just" being a strong duelist. It's about him learning to loosen up and be fine with his more goofy side. Striking a balance between being able to become the person he wants to be while remaining the person he naturally is. Going full-in on his power cards isn't the right way because it would mean denying parts of himself that are key to his identity, but going solely into his Ojamas also isn't the way because it would mean he's not reaching his full potential (as his final duel with Edo is about) - his integration of both in a single strategy is symbolic of his development.
Plus he's just a joy to watch, with the comedic bits making for a really unique type of character that's super uncommon. Just making him a bog standard "cool badass rival" replaces that uniqueness with something you can see in basically any series.
Other than Jaden losing this sounds pretty accurate to the anime
@@Zetact_ Isn't that the point of a rival? being actually competent instead of comedy relief? it's funny to watch his obsessive feelings towards Alexis getting rejected or losing his duels against the main cast without them even dropping a sweat, or seeing him brainwashed/zombified. But that's precesily why I wouldn't call him a rival per se.
Still wild to me that Zane humiliated Chazz with a neutered Cyber Dragon deck to the point he didn't even do a single point of damage - all off screen
It wasn’t even off screen, we see the whole duel and zane kinda just outsmarts him and cooks him fully onscreen with like 5 total named carfs
So it’s just like the anime
Recently got the Light End Dragon card. It's so weird how many manga cards ended up being really good in TCG.
@arikadoriyama4724 stratos was busted at release. From the moment it came. The best hero card back then
Jaden vs Chazz (Finals) in the Manga was one of the most hype as a teenager back then I've EVER experienced with GX. THAT FINAL TURN & FINAL PANEL LIVES RENT FREE IN MY HEAD
I’ve loved reading the GX manga since I was a kid and I’m so glad to see it getting some spotlight. I genuinely find the GX manga duels to be really good since every duel actually feels like there is an underlying strategy in each of the duelists’ playstyles. Judai’s playstyle early on is focused on turboing Terra Firma, so often people like Misawa and Asuka would block off ways to summon him or get rid of its materials and Judai is forced to strategize new ways to summon either new fusion monsters or come up with a new way to summon Terra Firma. The Hibikis are also just a great addition and make the series for me, as I feel like Midori and Koyo add so much to Judai’s development.
Great video! It’s always great hearing people talk about the different Yugioh manga. A small correction, though: the GX manga was never published in Weekly Shonen Jump. It was published in the American Shonen Jump, but in Japan it was published in the monthly V Jump magazine.
If they ever make the main deck Masked HEROes, they would have the be either Normal Monsters or one line simple effect monsters with hard once per turns for the sake of balance since Contrast HERO Chaos is basically a prototype Crusadia Equimax. A long time ago I once had a dream where we had them as vanillas with all of them being the same super rare rarity. Hopefully said dream comes true one day.
Bro thinks giving heroes a negate would make them busted lmao
@@DeepSolid43 Bro clearly hasn't played modern HEROes enough.
@@DeepSolid43 All jokes aside I'm still perplexed at the fact Konami made Sunrise, Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer, Flame Wingman - Infernal Rage, Shining Neos Wingman and especially Wake up your Elemental HERO. You would think the Xtra HEROes would've already gave them the edge to establish their current playstyle but apparently Komoney deep down wants a Rouge deck to top Meta in the UG. Shit, I can't even get one full combo off on a second turn without someone scooping.
@@DeepSolid43 Let me know if you want a decklist so you can play them yourself at full power. I got your back man.
@@anothercomposer7118 hero is one of my pet decks, i just havent been touching them since dabl came out, bystial used to make it unplayable, as if power level wasnt gone way past what hero could do already. Even infernal rage into favourite contact into shining neos wingman is such a mid play if you take a look at what top decks are able to do.
The deck is fun and will have a special place in my heart but calling it busted its just a level of delusion i cant get behind
yeah the reason that the gx manga was rushed was cause the zexal manga had started by the time that it was in its final act and they didnt want v jump to have 3 diffrent yugioh manga runing at once
You mean the 5ds manga
@@Zeronigel332 no i mean the zexal manga the 5ds manga was running along with the gx manga for 2 years when it ended
@@twilftw I thought Shonen jump exclusive said they didn’t want two yugioh manga running at the same time
@@Zeronigel332they didn't want more than 2
But didn’t zexal manga somewhat controversial for having its main villain get yeeted out and replaced by Kaguya- er I mean E’rah?
There something I like to mention which is how the manga would do stuff we would see much later in the card game. For example vision heroes predate the idea of smaller monsters having methods of recovery for fusions/methods of gaining advantage, while mask hero would find a way to go around the hand issues with fusion. Chazz dragon deck is basically dragon link and Midori dark lords would potentially for Artifacts and other decks
YES, PLEASE LET THE MAIN DECK MASKED HEROS BE GOOOOOOOOOD
Also, another hell of a job man, I loved it!
As a kid I only had the GX manga and never saw the anime so when i got older I was shocked at how different they were
15:25 Agreed. Also to make Contrast Hero Chaos easier to summon.
Hell have a way to make masked hero TOKENS at least...
GX anime is great tho, especially Jaden's arc. to go from light hearted and happy go-lucky to being depressed and giving up is the most realistic experience of going to high school.
also first villain wanted eternal youth law
Highschool? Just wait till adulthood
This was my first experience with Yugioh. So imagine my shock at how different Chazz was, when I started playing Duel Links. But this video was a very welcome surprise.
Nice video. I own all the Gx Manga. I really really like the Manga version of Judai and his history with the Omni E•HERO's, Koyo Hybiki, Winged Kuriboh and the birth of the Coolest M•HERO's. 🤙🏾
They did Jesse so dirty in the manga. IK Pegasus was dead in the manga, but they could've kept his CB deck. But he found them differently.
Do the same for the other mangas after this one, they’re so vastly different and it hurts knowing some people haven’t experienced them!
The Masked Hero bit made me subscribe
I become Darklord player because of this manga. The deck was stupidly expensive back then.
My favorite thing about gx was the build up to zane truesdale and atticus rhoades. Atticus being my favorite character in the manga even though he's only in like the 3 last volumes. The manga did an amazing job showing why zane and atticus are the 2 best duelists in the entire manga. Theyre basically undefeated in the manga where Atticus only loses a duel cuz the main villain possess him and makes him lose to aster. I really like how they gave him a unique bird deck instead of him having a ripoff of joey red eyes black dragon deck where Atticus literally turns it into a archetype in the anime. But i stand by my opinion that zane and atticus are the most powerful duelists in the manga, zane being the strongest and atticus being 2nd. But my other favorite part is making chazz an actual legit rival to jaden unlike the way he is in the anime. My only flaw for the manga is their treatment of jesse deck, really a bug deck? Cmon man but sacrifices had to be made. But I really wanted crystal beasts in the manga
Pegasus is dead in the OG manga (ignoring there's little connection to DM and GX manga lore)
So crystal beasts were never made.
Also Jesse Jim Axel and Adrian have no point in existing. They were added cause they were popular characters at the time.
Konami need to include some Yu-Gi-Oh manga & game characters in the future animation.
The enthusiasm when mentioning the Masked HEROES touched my heart.
So Alexis was reduced to eye candy and didn't win any important duels... How is that any different from her role in the anime
I have a sneaking suspicion TheLaw likes masked heroes
Damn, imagine getting GX Manga Animated by Konami’s Animation studio
If that's the case, I kinda rather we see Yugioh R, if only to see the old gang back in action for an extra does of nostalgia. And if that proves successful, then GX's manga.
Would love recaps of all of the yugioh manga!
Season 3 and 4 were definitely set up in the first season. Jaden's story about voices when he was a kid was clearly about Yubel, and the white dorm is a major plot point in s4.
It most def want lol. They just tried to tie loose ends at the end. None of that stuff was planned at all.
The goat doin' even YuGiOh manga retrospectives?
NICE!
I would love a yugioh manga recap series like this where you go over your thoughts on the manga vs the show
Always love going back to reading the GX Manga. Gotta start reading the 5Ds one as well sometime soon.
Also wondering if you were ever gonna continue the review and deep explanations of Duel Links and its evolving Metas
The things I think the manga did good are the duels and maybe the storyline ( oh, and you too Chazz. The manga did you well). Other than that, I find the anime still does better, especially depicting how Judai (yeah, I call him by his Japanese's name instead since I like it more) becomes more mature and gets the feel of having responsibility while dueling. The manga was forced to be rushed toward the end is what makes me feel underwhelming and somewhat furious, since I know the manga was going the right way and it has its own interesting points, although I enjoy the anime version more.
Longtime fan of the videos. Just a tiny recommendation that the sound effects are a little too loud in contrast to your voice & a little jarring (I understand this is intentional sometimes)
The Law we played a duel like 2-3 minutes ago 😅😂 we had the swordsoul Tenyi Yang Zing (me) vs magistus (you, i belive 🤔) how did you managed to get to my youtube recomandations so quickly
still think it is so funny that both creative teams of the anime and the manga suddenly decided to change Jadens ace-card into a stand-in for the Tokusatsu super hero Ultraman, which is why I'm surprised they never gave Neos and Terra Firma any kind of interaction in their cards.
(also yes, the connection to Ultraman explains both how Terra Firmas cards worked, and why the Neos deck worked the way it did)
I am looking forward to the possibility of you doing a video on the 5D's Manga.
I appreciate the videos covering other aspects of the IP
5:59 -6:11 And then they we got Main deck version of light and darkness dragon in infinite forbidden
I love this! Please please please do more on the mangas.
Th GX manga is definitely awesome! Wish more people read it though....:(
Yeah I remember reading the volumes as a kid and they rocked, except for a card at the end of a volume having been stolen before I got it
I always thought that the anime could have combined season 1 and 2 and no one would really know. Just take out the filler episodes and change a couple of things and it flows much better.
The worst thing about reading the GX manga is that there is no way to consume it without being forced to see the dub names, unlike the others.
While many people say Manjoume/Chazz is better in the manga, I say him being a funny deconstruction of what it means to be a rival in the anime is better than being a generic edgelord in the manga.
You should make more videos like this, especially for the ARC-V manga which I think is really good.
At least the dub names in GX are pretty good for the most part. Nothing as bad as fucking “Zuzu” 🤮
Define "generic edgelord"
@@nmr7203 Chazz from the GX manga, Zane from the GX anime, and Varis from Vrains - boring and generic edgelords.
stop crying about the dub names nobody cares
Poor Alexis Rhodes. Always the eye candy, never the candy maker. Why did Takahashi screw her over so hard in GX?!
There never should have been a reason for her to suck to bad. He Ritual style was cool and I wished she'd got more wins.
I hate how she didn't do anything in the anime. Not even be the one who saves her brother from Nightshroud.
That blows how bad she got it in the manga too 😭
Midori Hibiki was always a character that stuck with me from the manga.
I loved how they were able to give such a random supporting character so much personality with so little (like her habit of snapping her fingers whenever she plays a trap)
I kinda wanna hear his views on the other Mangas, they're pretty wild, it's super fun to see really impactful cards and weird takes on the familiar characters, the only one didn't love was arc-v it was a hot mess express
The GX manga is the best YuGiOh manga and the better of the GX content
8:28 I hope that someday they release the rest of Reggie' cards.
Gx-era Fairy cards are my favorites.
Bro gets a like just for the Psych clip.
Also the manga is really good and I would also recommend reading the other Yu-Gi-Oh mangas too.
Whenever I see GX the theme song automatically starts playing and I would not have it any other way.
Bro i have tragoedia or whatever his name is. I never knew he was a manga card and tbh I don't remember what his ability was but i know that i use him in my deck and he is broken for sure.
Can you reduce the noise blasts in the video? Enjoyed it a lot other than all the really significant random swings in volume.
I got one of the books which gave a free winged kuriboh lv9!! Never read any chapters after the 3rd volume though.
Like this vid Thelawygo do you plan on doing the 5ds, zexal and arc v mangas bc those are all good in their own right
I found the GX Manga at the library some years ago and read every volume
1:48 Actually there is a more direct throughline through all seasons with Yubel using the sacred beasts who are symbols of alchemy and Jaden using an element themed deck based around alchemical elements. It's subtle, but the presence of the supreme king and Yubel have been there throughout the whole series. You just have to connect the dots a little to get it. It's not in your face storytelling, but it's there. Sadly GX suffers a lot from the fact that during production the storywriters didn't have one clear defined script and instead changed things a lot, but the overarching story still exists, only shambled a little.
lol that was never planned they just tried to tie loose ends at the end.
14:20 this needs to be an alternative art somewhere someday
Jaden is not as over powered as his anime counterpart and I very much appreciate that.
Chazz being an actual Rival was so refreshing, his anime counterpart did not have a win record to be respected.
I really enjoyed that the Manga grants Atticus and Zane the status as the top 2 Duel Academy students since anime Atticus doesn’t have that presence.
My overall favorite change is that the Manga shows Zane and Syrus having a healthy sibling relationship from the jump. The anime made Syrus a weak coward while having Zane be this cold stoic champion. Manga Zane remains stoic but is not cold, and Syrus is driven to be a splendid duelist
Yeahthis video was awesome! I will check it out asap
Just finished it in a sitting. My only complaint was that it was too short, needed more time to get to know the characters. I know Season 1 GX gets a lot of hate but I really enjoyed the duel of the week type stories and seeing the characters hang out at the school and dorms. GX manga is blazing fast pace.
Wasn't "that card" briefly in the 5Ds anime as part of a puzzle the characters needed to do?
I did finish reading yugioh gx manga
Love the terra firma in the thumbnail
Gx manga is my second fav yugioh anything, after the original. 5ds is close but the gx manga story and the way Chazz was was amazing honestly.
Say what you will about the GX anime, but season 3 is some of the best television I have ever seen and Zane vs Yubel is one of the greatest things I have ever seen, especially subbed.
i did read this manga a few years ago but i didn't remember it tying in so strongly with the original. At least the ancient egypt part of it
15:08 I use shadow mist in a tear hero deck. Its works well with the deck 😊
I eventually will to know WTF is the deal with Tragoedia and the reason for its effects...
14:45 HMMMM
the manga has Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, that alone is a reason to read it in my book.
The anime has one thing over every other iteration, the intro song
So they drew down for a DVD?………..
Ok I’m purchasing this manga I need to see this
Pause. @2:17 ...is that elemental hero bubbleman???????? He looks so cool wth
respectfully the gx manga i would say is one of the best yugioh manga versions
Nah season 2 is bonkers looking back the sheer insanity outweighs the weaknesses.
The one thing I enjoyed about the Yugioh spinoff manga was taking the familiar characters and settlings, but giving them a unique twist to separate it from the anime - adapting manga to anime ends up mostly feeling like a beat for beat retelling of what is on the pages onto the screen, but following an anime with a manga that goes in its own direction feels fresh and new, and lets the mangaka explore different possibilities from what happens in the anime source material.
It's just a shame that they ended up rushing the stories to begin on the next series and just entirely skipped the possibility of a Vrains manga (though, given they actually rushed the ending of that anime, maybe it was for the best.)
One day Konami *will* give light and darkness dragon it’s own archetype and I will live to see the day
As someone who grew up with the manga instead of the anime I'm glad it's finally seeing the love the manga deserves however despite my bias towards the manga I will stick up to the fact that manga Chazz is nowhere near as great as anime Chazz and I find him extremely boring with very weak characterisation that makes him basically on par with a pokemon rival. I get people gas him up because he did beat Jaden in a pretty good duel but it feels like people only look at win statistics and less the characters as characters.
When the masked hero deck kept getting bodied almost every duel.😂
Keep in mind, slice of life is common in modern Shonen. Remember, Shonen manga and anime mainly target early to late teen boys between 12 to 18. Judai was a very relatable protagonist due to him being a teen male (the main demographic), has no supernatural abilities (until season 3&4) and his passion for duel monsters. The series was being very relatable. However, the series grew to being more dark and similar to Yugioh Duel Monsters. But that was due to fans wanting that tone back and not liking the slice of life aspect. Now Yugioh was always dark. Since the original manga. In fact, 5D’s was the darkest sequel series than all of them.
so no Tyranno Kenzan? or Tanya? my 2 fav characters not being active is a huge deal breaker
I agree with the things you're saying the GX manga has different paths and new characters , but they went way off when they didn't introduce dark Zane with those dark cyberse. How could they do that to cyber dark horn
I always liked Atticus, and was bummed that he doesnt' have a decent deck. It's either Red-Eyes as Darkness, or goofy comic relief cards. I enjoyed his "sphere" cards in the manga but other than the Atmosphere (which is a card i also really liked) there's no real-life Atticus cards which we can play with :(
GX season 1: good, season 2: okay, season 3: no and season 4: probably the best one.
I thought it was okay.
Chazz is a huge upgrade and the hospital backstory is genuinely peak.
However for some reason it felt like it devolved into constant duelling and reading the chapters back to back became tiresome
My main opinion about the manga is that I love Midori Hibiki because she uses the Darklord archetype, even if she loses the only duel she has in the series.
2:22 Crawler: L-let's not talk about THAT...
XD
Just for Manjoume/Chazz and Light and Darkness Dragon alone it’s worth it!
Amazing vid!
You need to work on volume consistency but the video was good
Honestly. I wish they would’ve kept Asuka’s Ritual or Fusion style for this Manga.
Im curious what ost did you used for the video
Soo, were the kids of the principal good after their control was released?
I like how the story proceed in the GX manga.
Rather than Ojama's, I like LADD to be the main card for Chazz instead.
Huh? Wait the 1st antagonist goal wasn’t to takeover the world but to obtain youth
in defense of the "random shoe in of super natural" it almost makes the story interesting in a way with how the kids wanted to have a regular life but bad people kept trying to fuck with the kids.
Any chance we would get a video about the 5ds manga in a simmular format?
Might want to normalize the audio on the emphasis cuts.
Video was great, hope you make one on the 5Ds manga.
Also, small suggestion, please stop with the random shouting. It kills the vibe.
