    Never thought about using a simple siphon to get rid of the excess water - that's a huge tip. Available for $5 at Harbor Freight, less with a coupon. So thanks for that.

    If the flange is below a half inch from the floor level you will need two of the kits to get it to the right level. Best to take the bowl off first before heading to the store. Learned that the hard way.

    After replacing a wax seal with the Fluidmaster better than wax seal, my toilet still had slight water seepage. I loosened the toilet, wiggled it a bit and re-tightened the bolts. No more leaks. Time will tell how good the Fluidmaster seal is.

    Thanks. I think using this Fluidmaster toilet seal has advantages over the wax one and plan to use it going forward.

      rubber rots over time though. I'd go wax.

      Same for wax it eventually wears out so it's about the same shit😊

    Be sure the flange is flush or 1/4 inch about floor level. It looks like it squished all the wax out. Somebody looks to have added a flange repair on TOP of the original flange, which made the height higher. The wax ring should squish about half.

  • @amandaberofsky
    @amandaberofsky 2 года назад

    It looks like there was a black middle adapter that you took off along with the wax ring. Start at the 2:34 mark and you can see it in the middle. I think you may have needed to clean it off and put it back. I installed the blue thing and it's leaking everywhere. I think I'm going to have to use wax, and I don't want to. 😭

    Your waste line and flange is a large diameter and the rubber seal is designed for typical smaller diameter 3" pipe. When you placed the small seal down it nearly fell down inside the pipe instead of seating on flange surface for tight seal. There must be seepage occurring; may not be apparent if that is slab floor.

      great advice! I'm definitely not a plumber 😄 I'll have to see if there is an adapter or something I can get to create a tight seal. thanks for watching and the feedback! 👍

      @@thisokhome4508 - You have an old 4" cast iron waste line where a steel flange repair ring has been installed. There is a leakage point where old damaged flange and repair ring join. A wax seal made for both 3" and 4" pipe will do the trick because the entire assembly will be sealed-up, as you see when you pulled the toilet.

      Good catch Carl. These seals work great, just not for dummies.

    Don't use Fluidmaster's "Better Than Wax" product. That was my choice as well for a toilet that began to leak at the floor. Three years or so after installing this product, it began to leak again. When I removed the toilet, I discovered that the plastic that this product is made of had hardened and deteriorated, allowing the leak. Many types of plastic deteriorate over time. I sensibly assumed that Fluidmaster would have used a plastic that would endure. They don't; the product is garbage.

    Couple of things. The toilet should be level and not rock. If the floor is not level then use composite (not wood) shims to level the toilet side to side and front to back. Easy to purchase composite shims at HD or Lowes. You forgot to put the plastic washer that holds the toilet caps on which should be before the metal washer. Last caulk around the toilet after cutting off the shims but leave a little area at the back of the toilet in case there is a leak the water will come out there. The caulk after drying will help ensure no movement of the toilet.

    There is a new type of ring made of elastomer. Anyone have experience with this? One YT video showed a pro plumber who swore it was great.

    Not telling you what to do, just trying to help you. You need to eliminate the gap under the toilet. The rocking and wobbling is the problem. Destroys the seal. Personally, I would cut a piece of wood, thick enough to eliminate the gap, giving it a solid flat base for the toilet to sit on all the way around. I promise this will fix your problem.

    • @thisokhome4508
      @thisokhome4508  3 года назад +2

      never thought of that, def a good idea. but with the cost of wood right now may have to take out a personal loan to accomplish it 🤣

    Your flange is too high. Great video.

  • @sistercalhoun4444
    @sistercalhoun4444 3 года назад +1

    I always have my toilet tank and my toilet up against the wall so it don't wobble if you leave space between the wall and the toilet it's going to start wobbling everybody got a tendency to lean there back against the toilet when they sit on the toilet causing the toilet to tilt back off the floor a little and then you will start leaking at the bottom plus you want to make sure that the flange is somewhat above the floor a little because you got a nipple under the base of the toilet that it needs to sit off in and grasp.

      my toilets are against the wall, unfortunately whoever did the tile in my home didnt level around the toilet well so i have wobbling.. shims do help but they tend to move from time to time when we clean. my flange is above the floor level too. so far with the rubber seal it hasnt leaked. keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way 😬 thanks for watching and commenting! 😁

    That flange is weird looking. I agree that the fluid master didn't seem to fit in there right even if it was working. Hope it stays working but I bought 3 different kinds to replace my seal for a situation like this lol

    • @thisokhome4508
      @thisokhome4508  3 года назад +2

    yeah their claim it works above floor is false and totally frustrating! i spent 3 hours trying to do that and it is impossible and broke the whole flange! It is ridiculous to claim that when the seal does not compress at all! Total crap!

    I'd bet my right nut you're using a 3" seal on 4" waste line flange... How it ever sealed up sure beats the hell out of me. I believe they do make no wax kits that are supposed to work on 3 and 4 inch waste lines. Sorry to hear this thing is torturing you to death.

    You needed to use spacer.

    • @thisokhome4508
      @thisokhome4508  3 года назад +2

      I tried the spacer it came with, it would not work. The toilet would've sat at least a quarter inch off of the ground. To date it still has not leaked and hasn't given me an issue. Keeping my fingers crossed though! Thanks for watching!

      You use the spacer when the flange sits lower to the floor
