    I really am thrown off by most of the taped episodes, but for some reason, it's less jarring in this episode for me, and I think it doesn't take away from the creepy factor.

      Hey Melissa, always good to hear from you. I agree, it is not as jarring in this one and in some ways it certainly does add to the creepiness. Especially for the dream sequences.

      22 and the Night of the Meek are the best videotaped Twilight Zone episodes. Videotape seems to enhance the creepiness of 22. I'm not sure if the regular TV cameras would've captured the same creepiness.

    I've been watching a lot of the original Twilight Zone series (and some of the reboots, namely 2002) lately, and I think of the stories I've seen, "Twenty Two" is probably one of my favourites. It's a beautifully haunting, minimalist psychological thriller piece with a nerve-jangling twist ending, and though I'm yet to see the rest of the VHS six, the "Shot on Video" look really enhances the creepiness and discomfort here.
    And yes, I know of the parallels between this episode and the movie Final Destination, which has a similar premise to the plot twist of "Twenty Two".

    I learned something new. This episode is based on an anecdote and that alone is based on other versions of a story. You really feel for Liz in constant fear and anxiety. The idea of knowing your possible fate and if it would happen to you or not is scary to anybody. That fear inspired many modern horror stories like Final Destination like you said. Just imagine if we have the ability to see in the future. It would either help us or make us paranoid. Another excellent video, Anthony!

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater
      @FeverDreamlandTheater  2 года назад +2

      That's one of those things, if your future is certain doom, sure we would struggle to change things, but it would also be a living nightmare to go through. Definitely good framework for horror stories. Thanks for watching as usual, always cool hearing from you! Be well man.

      I hear you Dope Show. The repeated scenes work in one sense in that I really feel the drag and the repetition she's going through. But in a short story like this, anything repeated also feels like it is taking away screen-time that maybe could be used for something else. It wasn't enough to ruin things for me, but I figured I'd mention it. Thanks for watching man, be well!

    I love those glasses that Fredd Wayne had on. Real groovy. Still.. only 3 stars? One scale of 1 to 5.. I would reserve 3 for the episode that were not worth watching. I think there are only two or three in that category. One was a "Big Tall Wish" I hated the ending of the episode so much...That it gets only 3 out of 5 stars... Normally a Twilight Zone episode is a 5 out of 5 stars.. Well, I am a huge fan of the 1960's series, I have read the books and even listened to the radio series based on the 1960s shows. There is magic to be found in almost all of the episodes. Rod Sterling was a genius on so many levels.

      Hey Lisa, thanks as always for watching & commenting! I'm glad you mentioned Final Destination because it gives me an excuse to mention some related trivia I did not mention in the review. 😁
      In this case, although the story was eerily similar, the writer of Final Destination Jeffrey Reddick was not influenced by TZ.
      "The original kernel for the idea came on a flight home to Kentucky. I was reading an article about a woman on holiday in Hawaii... her mother called her and said don't get on the plane because I have a bad feeling about it, and she actually got on another plane. The plane she was meant to be on crashed. That really put the idea in my head."

    Another excellent review! A good episode, certainly very eerie and spooky, but not one of my favorites by any means. The videotape episodes are also not my favorites to watch just because of the quality issues, which when these shows look good, it adds even more to their effectiveness in my opinion. Jonathan Harris is amazing in anything. He has one of the most mesmerizing and hypnotic voices and he is the highlight of the episode for me, but that just may be my admiration for Dr. Smith from Lost in Space. Excited for the next episode already!

    Another great choice. I watched this one again last week in my big re-watch. I'm always impressed by it. Jonathan Harris is particularly good in this one. As you may know, Lost in Space is my favorite sci-fi property of all time. It was interesting seeing him in such a weird role.
    All the trivia tidbits were great. Didn't know so many of them.
    As to the film vs. video. I do prefer the look of the film, but there were some darn good episodes shot on video. Some I wish I could trade out with not as good film episodes.

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater
      @FeverDreamlandTheater  2 года назад +2

      Hey Rob! Lost in Space and Outer Limits are the big two that are my blindspots for classic tv. So for this holiday season I will look into some box sets. Speaking of which I think a Night Gallery season 1 set just came out.
      The video episodes to me are just as solid as the standard filmed ones. I'm just a geek for the film look, lol. Twenty, Two, Lateness of the hour, Long Distance Call and Night of the Meek were all really good. Going through the six, I think there were only two I was not a big fan of; 'The whole truth' and 'Static', but in both cases, they could have been shot on film and I would feel the about the same.
      Anyway, thanks as always for the watch & comment! Be well bro!

    I'm surprised no one points out Liz constantly holding some sort of doll in this episode. This could also be another sign of her trying to relieve her stress (possibly through littlespace), as one of these dolls even accompanies her in her nightmares. This sticks out to me, as this particular practice isn't exactly common knowledge in today's age, so to see something like this represented in a show that aired in 1959 is quite unexpected.
    I should also note that in her dream, she was carrying the clown doll, while when she was boarding the plane, she was carrying the stuffed jaguar. This seems to coincide with her going from breaking a drinking glass to breaking a vase.

    I couldn’t watch this one for years ! The nurse scared me too much as a kid . Jonathan Harris is more like his early version of Doctor Smith from Lost In Space so that was unsettling . I have watched it more in recent years and now find a good rather unsettling episode. I think the reason people have that feeling with this one is because we all dream and may have recurring ones ( even when they are this scary. ) In that respect the dream episodes are the ones we can relate to them. I also prefer film but this gave the episode a jarring effect that added to the creepiness. I think I would also give three out of five creepy nurses!
    A couple of things that last look the flight attendant ( formerly stewardess) gave had always seemed odd to me . I also wish Barbara hadn’t dropped her little stuffed animal! Glad she got off .

    - Sorry to criticize your fellow Bronxite, but I hated the doctor character! Absolute creeeep. Yuck. Made Barney seem normal by comparison (!).
    - I liked Arlene Sax/Martel in a good Outer Limits episode you've probably seen: "Demon with a Glass Hand" (1964)

      Hey Hop, I totally hear you about the doctor in this case, Jonathan Harris is great but his character in this is creepy as heck. Outer Limits is actually a show I am looking forward to catching up on. Be well!

    This episode would have been great if it had been on film. It's so cheap looking on video tape.

    Why does this remind me of "room for one more" from scary stories to tell in the dark

      Great catch! I was not familiar with that one so I looked it up real quick - it is about a man stalked by a hearse driver who wants him to join him in his car. Sounds like it originates from the very same spooky ghost story. Thanks Mara, I'll have to give that a watch.

    Now see I find this interesting, because this is about premonition. Funny that this one I have watched of yours is about a woman who starts to question her reality as in my novel series, book 1 talks a lot about a young woman who's haunted by mysterious dreams and she's battling what's real and what isn't, all the while trying to appear to everyone around her like everything in her life is normal, but she's carrying this heavy secret.

      Heeeey wassup Mojosfire! Hope you've been well. The topic of premonition is fascinating, your book sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to give it a look. Thanks for checking in, have a good one!

      @FeverDreamlandTheater Love your videos. You do such a good job and explain these old films. The Twilight zone with their stories seems like it was way ahead of it's time. 😊

    I just assumed the videotaped ones were live broadcasts but I do agree the film ones seem more timeless and when they remastered them for blue ray they looked beautiful. Top class video Anthony. Stay safe buddy

    I hadn't given it a thought about the video tape quality in this episode until you pointed it out, but I have to say it explains the weird quality the explosion on the airplane has! It's like when you see earlier TV shows filmed in kinescope and everything that shines in it looks like it's burning holes in the picture! A bit of a trivia note with Barbara Nichols. She appeared on an episode of the 70s game show "Celebrity Bowling" along with a rare all female set including Nanette Fabray, Patty Andrews and Marilyn Maxwell! I hate to say it, but although the show says that none of the celebs are professional bowlers, Barbara had to have been the worst! Haha!

      Hey Jon, I appreciate the fun trivia and thanks for going through these vids! Yeah that explosion scene is where the video quality really hits. Still a great show though. Be well!

      Excellent point. a flame burning on a kinescope/videotape appears with an aura as opposed to a burning flame on the other TV cameras used at the time.
