so i've decided to do another round of agency submissions with the shadowborn manuscript and suddenly this happened.
aelius is the villain in shadowborn. these events largely don't happen in the novel. he's mainly attracted to her power above all else. so, imagine this has some sort of AU where alais is taken back to luxia.
i've also changed the ages of both alais and tristan in the manuscript, so they're now 21. it makes it less of a ya novel, but some of the themes are quite dark anyway. aelius is around 30.
❖ synopsis for those who aren't familiar ;
alais has spent her life under the thumb of the empire, after being smuggled away from her homeland when she was five. she keeps her head down to stay alive. after suffering a tragedy down the mines, she swears to kill emperor marius by any means necessary, even if it means joining a rebel movement. but amongst all of this, alais realises she possesses strange, unearthly powers.
she soon catches the attention of the emperor's brother. he doesn't know why he's drawn to her, only he is. after a failed assassination attempt on the emperor, alais becomes an imperial prisoner and is taken back to luxia. there, aelius is determined to uncover alais' secrets.
