I don't know if Liam knows, but...
I am german, and I know that:...
"You are blue." is a german saying for: "You are drunk!". And this makes the last line double the fun!
and in certain parts of Slavic eastern Europe, saying that someone is "blue" is saying that the person is gay. While in America, it tends to mean that someone is sad and gloomy. So many meanings wrapped up in one little color.
11 months late, but Liam actually spent time in germany on exchange when he was younger, and can speak it pretty well, so I'm pretty certain he knew full well what he was saying.

I like to think that at 17 he was generally a polite kid, but also the rowdiest little shit in the Blumenthal tavern. He'd drunkenly serenade the whole bar with half-remembered songs, while Astrid and Eodwulf howled in laughter beside him.

God he was probably like my great grandmother- there’s a story she always tells of the one night she (supposedly) was the life of the party. She’s self-admittedly tone deaf, so she never sings, but apparently she mixed liqueurs one night and heard the next day that she got *on top of the booth she was in,* like a *perch,* and started serenading random people with different snippets of songs she barely knew, trailing off and switching songs but always so intensely acting. A woman apparently came to that bar every night for a month in hopes of meeting her again, which my great grandmother still finds a little embarrassing and bewildering to this day.
Now that I’ve told the story, I want you to imagine Caleb in that role. On the top of a booth, balancing precariously on this makeshift perch, screlting songs he’s improvising and barely knows, Eodwulf and Astrid cry-laughing nearby.
"Do not let me fall asleep, face down in the gutter" *wakes up face up in the gutter* "Dammit Jester!"
Wakes up next to Jester.

I was listening to the podcast while studying and almost fell out of my chair when he began singing 'Laurentia'. This is a song which is used for a children's game in Germany and I just got flashbacks to P.E in primary school
A swedish version is often included in campfires and similar (at least with the scouts I've been with ). Aching legs.
