I just started Muay Thai here in St. Louis. I’m thinking of making a career change that may result in me living on Koh Samui Thailand 6 months of the year. Are you familiar with any of their gyms, and any recommendations for a beginner who’s not looking to compete?
Im very new. I'm still learning the culture. I was surpised to see how many beginners are trying to fight/spar as soon as possible and have to be advised against it. I love the sport. I love the feeling of moving my body in new ways, being completely in the present moment, and improving at something that felt impossible just a few days ago. The idea of getting brain damage, severe dental issues, and lifelong chronic pain from injuries terrifies me. The gym I go to is very clear that they do not train beginners with the goal of fighting as soon as possible. Apparently that leads some people to choose a different gym. I'd find it really sketchy if they were any other way. They actually care about my safety and want me to see the benefits of the art.

5:50 my heart melted when I saw the puppy

How are you finding it after your first month?
@@Jed1317It has been very enjoyable! The coaches at my gym are really nice and supportive as well as the other students there. I've already learned most of the basic kicks and I'm improving slowly but surely
