    A fighter is explosive. Actions must be fast. In training and fighting, we learn to move in and out. Not only do we move fast but also with an explosive power. Training with weights for a fighting art or for fitness is different. In my years of working with fighters I developed different forms of training. I did my workouts with wrestlers (Piet Kanters and Henk van der Stoep), rugby players, American football pros, but most of all I learned from Arthur Mulder, an athletic trainer and physiotherapist.
    Strength training in martial arts has become a must. The principles of strength training are not the same way those for fitness training. Every resistance training is based on functional movements. Big muscles are of no use. Our muscular structure needs to be powerful, flexible and fast.
    A proper strength program is built as follows:
    • • • • •
    It is way
    Basic strengthSpeed trainingCombined strength and speed training including flexibility Endurance strength trainingTendon training (a new way of training for fighters)
    important for you to know that strength training has developed a specialized to work out and improve the quality of fighting.

    One day a week at my gym, the boxers have to do 500 situps in unison. It really helps to push people to places they didn't think they could go. Also, stretching is very important, especially for people just starting or if you're taking time off between training sessions. If you don't stretch your calves very well and you don't have shins that are used to heavy work, you will be much more prone to shin splints. I know that from experience, as I was sidelines for two months because of my shins. Coach didn't want me to develop a stress fracture in my shin (I had literally just recovered from one in my foot) and that's exactly what will happen if you just try to "push through" shin splints and neglect the proper recovery period. If you are someone who struggles with shin splints, learn the Chinese technique breaking up the scar tissue either called Gua Sha or Gua Shan, that is the only way I'm still training today without massive damage to my shins and it's very easy to do.

    On stretching in muay thai I would say it's less needed in muay thai largely because knock outs and pain plays a huge role in deciding the winner in the sport. Where literally one of the go to strats is to just kick your opponents leg until they can't walk on it anymore. For this reason it creates a meta where the round house is the king go to kick. Be it a low round house to the calves/thighs or a high knock out round house to the head.
    Because the round house needs probably the least amount of flexibility in comparison to all the other kicks that you see in TKD or Karate or old school muay thai, you can get away with not knowing any other kick besides a good solid round house in muay thai.
    So for this reason flexibility is not as much a game breaking concern as it is in other popular martial art sports like TKD/Karate/Wushu
    All though if you want to transition into MMA, flexibility will be a huge advantage for when you grapple, so you will see MMA and BJJ guys put a lot more focus in flexibility than muay thai guys.
    TLDR
    If all you care about is Muay Thai, the basic core stretches is all you need, if you want to transition into MMA, you will need stretching

    Running builds strength in your legs so far as they are used for running. Which is not really strength at all, but rather it is endurance. Long slow runs should not be used to “strengthen” the legs, but for baseline cardiovascular endurance.

      Train less the day before and more often during the week instead. for example i have been working out 2-3 times per week, always full body workout with only one exercise per muscle group. 1 day 3 sets of benchpress, squats, pullups and dips; day 2 you do 3 sets of benchpress deadlift pullups and overhead press. You can add arm and core exercises. That way you wont be lacking energy in the muay thai training. But youll see, that you will still make progress in the gym. if you feel like you can do more, add a set here and there, but only step by step.

      @@user-nk8zx1yw8s because there´s a big difference between running on asphalt and running on a track or in the woods. On asphalt, you put a lot of stress and pressure on your knees and for someone with weak knees or bad shoes it can definitely f them up. Running in the woods however, or even on a track, you remove a lot of that stress and pressure minimizing the possibility of injury. Running in the woods will also challenge the muscles around your ankles in a positive manner, making them stronger without as much risk of injuring the knees.

    I can confidently say you don’t need 300 sit ups like this guy is saying around 10:00 . This does more harm over time than it does good. If you want a strong core, do heavy suitcase carrys, hanging leg raises (10 to 20 rep range until very close to ACTUAL muscular failure), sit up variations that get you to, again, ACTUAL MUSCULAR FAILURE. Start with 3 sets 2x a week for one variation per workout. Scale up weight and volume over time slowly.

    • @chindianajones3742
      @chindianajones3742 Год назад

      How do you know it does more harm than good?

    • @RileyWallace-x8p
      @RileyWallace-x8p Год назад

      @@chindianajones3742 you have what you call overuse injury, occurring from high impact repetitive exercise. It damages the joints and connective tissue because of sheer volume and lack of variation. Let’s say you did 3 sets of 80 sit ups fast for one workout. You started to reach failure at 77 and pushed to 80, those last few reps are the biggest contributor to strength and hypertrophy gains.
      If instead you did 3 sets of decline sit-ups (or standard depending on strength level) for full range of motion, slow descent, and reached failure at 10-20 rep zone, it becomes a lot more efficient. Then every few weeks change your variation. Could be hanging leg raises one week, candle sticks or captains seat leg raises another week
