- An Illinois girl got the scare of her young life as a coyote chased her around her yard. Surveillance video shows 5-year-old Christine playing in her driveway as unbeknownst to her the coyote begins following. Suddenly, Christine turns around and realizes what's going on behind her, and screams. “It came up and around the tree,” she told Inside Edition. “Then he chased me to the house and I screamed.” No one in the family had ever seen a coyote in their neighborhood, which is outside Chicago. #InsideEdition
the girl turning around at the last second to face the coyote probably saved her life... those animals pretty much only strike when you aren't looking. they're very timid, especially if it's a human! kudos to you, little girl

Yeah that's how most animals work. I ran into a big bear hiking from my camp site in the mountains and it was coming at me fast until I turned around and it stopped so I stood tall and threw my arms in the air and ran at it and it darted far away and I never seen it again
If the coyote intended to "strike", turning around and squealing like caught prey wouldn't have stopped it at all. The best way to deter a coyote is to wave your arms in the air, roar, and act aggressive- or just trick it into dropping an anvil on its head. She's just lucky it was only curious.
She even turned and faced it at the right moment instead of getting dragged down from behind, clever girl.

When she ran he knew she was afraid and there for food. When she turned and faced it while screaming, it scared him away. For most wild animals if you act tough they leave you alone.

I was born in 1955 ,so by 1960 we roamed the neighbor in a big city. By 1997 our Son was born .We never ever let him roam the neighborhood let alone our front yard...That's how much times have changed. Even during grade school I made sure to walk him to and from and it's only 2 blocks...sadly not because of animals but because of human preditors. I'm glad little girl is okay...

she didnt stop and faced him, he touched her dress and she reacted. Luckily the animal wasnt ready for such encounter so he wasnt confident enough to bite. just like sharks do first then test bite....when dealing with new type of possible meal. In one word he was Hesitant.

We used to live in a desert city, and I once caught a small pack of coyotes stalking little kids when my son was young. I went out to bring him home, since it was getting dark and saw the coyotes hunting the children. There was one little boy sort of straggling, too, on whom they were concentrating. I called to them, and the coyotes ran off. We lived near a wash where they were known to come into backyards after pets and even houses if they could. One of our older neighbors had her little dog snatched right out of her arms, as she tried to run to get him to safety. We're told they're shy, but, from my experience, this is simply not true. We also had several of our cats taken by coyotes. We had a huge backyard and sometimes found big holes dug under the wooden fence where they got into the yard. After that, we always kept them inside.
