  • Engine is back together and in the frame. Carb, air filter, chain and sprockets all are in so we finally get to start this thing up!

    what I like about Honda motorcycles is they all have the same procedure of dismantling and rebuilding, I got Honda xl200 (Brazil models) and the process is basically the same. kudos great video series

    One of the coolest small bikes they ever made was the XR 75. very sweet like the XR 600

    Nice job! Hey just a little tip ,when you replace that exhaust gasket turn those half moon collars around the other way and wrap a piece of masking tape around them to hold them in place. The tape will burn off the first fire up.👍

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  Год назад +1

      Thank you Rich! That’s a really good idea with the tape. I’ll make sure I do that when the gasket arrives.

    That sounds like it’s running great and doesn’t seem to smoke a bit! Look forward to the running video :)

      I can’t wait to ride it on the trails I used to ride the ‘87 XR200 I had from ‘96-‘99. Should a fun video.

    Bike reminds me of my '74 XL175 Honda. Pretty bullit proof engine, but not the most powerful. Perfect little bike for gravel roads.

      I have one of those too! Great little bikes. The XL175 from 73 and 74 are some of the best looking bikes in my opinion. Love the Mars Orange!

    Nice work! Yeah, you need that copper seal hehe.. But she runs smooth!
    Exciting to see how she perform on the trails, considering she is a 200.
    Thanks for the upload!

      Thanks Erik! I’ve gotten lucky before and reusing that crush gasket…this time not so much lol. If that’s all that’s wrong with it though, I’ll take it lol.

    Disconnect the de compressor cable when you use the compression tester, as soon as you kick it, the exhaust valve is opened so you lose compression, I used to have a XL185, which used the same basic motor.

      Thank you! I’ll have to give it a try…didn’t even consider the auto decompression.

    Sounds brilliant , top job with the top end rebuild , just the exhaust leaking a bit I think new copper seal and collars seated a bit better 😁 be good to see it on the move . And that carb seems like the buy of the year. 👍👍 Great job .

      Thank you! I actually had the header collar on backwards lol. Luckily Andy from Andy’s XL Restoration channel caught it and gave me the heads up! I’m still baffled by how well the carb works too.

    Wow, bike started up perfectly. Nice work. I'm having trouble with the XR200R OEM carb. Can't seem to get the idle right and I've cleaned it several times now. Can you share a link to where you bought the ebay carb? Thanks.

    • @Garage2Trail

      Thanks Martin! Here’s the link off Amazon:
      tianfeng Carburetor For Honda XR200 XR200R 1980-2002 Carb W/ Air Filter a.co/d/9KwH3ti
      Have you tried blowing out the idle air circuit real good? I had another bike I was working on give me the same trouble even after an ultrasonic bath until I blew compressed air into the air screw hole and the couple small holes that are facing the intake side of the carb. Cured that instantly.

    • @martintelford8763
      @martintelford8763 Год назад

      @@Garage2Trail I haven't tried compressed air yet, just the ultrasonic cleaner. I'll give that a try before I try a new carb, thanks for the tip.

      @@Garage2Trail I didn't have any luck with another cleaning cycle and blowing compressed air through all the holes. Carbs are frustrating! I bought the same Amazon carb you did and was wondering how many turns out the fuel/air screw and the idle screw were turned out? Thanks!

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  Год назад

      @@martintelford8763 ahh bummer. To be honest I don’t know. I just threw it on the bike and it started easy and idled. I only had to mess with the idle by turning it up just a hair after it warmed up.
