      This scene is insane. The force perspective of the Terminator is a great shot. He appears to be a giant compared to that one dancer. I’m sure that was done on purpose. The despair in Sarah’s face reads “my time has come.” The music builds up and Reese barely makes the save. So much going on in a just a few minutes.

    Every time I see this scene, I'm reminded that this is such a superbly shot and edited film, particularly for a B-movie which was never expected to find major success. Adam Greenberg's cinematography is so good, James Cameron brought him back for Terminator 2 and he was nominated for a Best Cinematography Oscar. He should have won it too

      not many people appreciate the editing and screenplay of this film. Its definitely up there with the best aci-fi films of all time- especially the photo of Kyle Reece looking at the photo of Sarah and wondering what she was thinking when the pic was taken - gets me every time I watch those scenes

    • @UnYin99
      @UnYin99 2 месяца назад +7

      i dont have any education in film production but what i noticed/like about this scene is the way Kyle's shotgun firing is edited. We see Kyle and then a bright flash from the end of the gun. The sound is heard, then the camera cuts to the terminator and we see the impact of the round as the sound continues and ends. Then quick back and forth between kyle firing and the terminator absorbing the hit a split second later, with the audio connecting the two images. i feel it really transmits the speed, intensity and the raw violence of firing a shotgun at a "person". Add to that Kyle frantically pushing bystanders out of the way, club patrons running, falling, and getting shot despite Reese's efforts. some great choices that deliver a strong sense of energy, impact and the overall chaos of the interaction in a close and crowded environment. Imo those decisions are an example of what allowed the filmmakers to create a taut action film with a limited budget.

I would have liked to have seen a t.v. series called "The Reese files" and its about him growing up in the future, how they survived, built weapons, infiltrated robot building facility's, wars against the terminators...etc. Terminator Salvation was o.k., it could have been done better. It didn't have that sci-fi horror like The Terminator (1984) had, the T-800 almost seemed invincible.

I heard J. Cameron had that on his mind and M. Beihn trained to get that kind of a look for his portrayal of a resistance soldier...

    Perhaps the greatest predator vs prey scene ever, Arnies greatest and most iconic role. Cameron’s masterly direction with that slo-mo of the T1 miscue in the nightclub when Sarah bends down to pick something up is a work of art. Then the T1 returns set to take a clear laser guided head shot is a magnificent peak of the hunt scene just as the laser hits the viewers eyes. The tension just ramps up to fever pitch just as you realise how cunning, relentless and invincible this thing is after being shot umpteen times. Pure magic never gets old, pure magic.

    • @DarlingNikki2
      @DarlingNikki2 3 месяца назад +4

      @@oscarfun100 Sadly it does seem that movies have lost something in the 2000s that was present in earlier decades. It seems as if studios think audiences always want to see everything and the kitchen sink thrown at them on screen constantly and don't understand pacing, editing, timing, etc. Just use a bunch of CGI and overpaid actors who can't actually act and hope for the best. The Terminator always stands out in my mind because there are no 'big stars' in it to lend it weight, it depends wholly on the storyline and skill of the directing to keep it moving along at a tension-filled pace, giving just enough pauses to let the audience catch its breath and then, you're back at the frantic pace again. James Cameron really had that pacing down to a science and I love how he empowered his female characters without being condescending towards them or the audience.

Why? It's like these older films had more grit and realness, they feel like they have gravity and texture and space... newer stuff feels so flimsy with the CGI and swooping, fancy camera angles. You never really feel like anything is real, or that you are THERE. That's why this film works - you feel so DOWN in it, you're usually always at EYE LEVEL with everyone, it feels more personal, down-to-earth, the simplicity sells it.

    The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
    T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.
    I just wish we could get a new 5.1 remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as the 35 year old Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.

    To be honest, the haziness was a large part of the terror of the original.

    What is funny about this scene…. Is that we are getting far from the 80s and closer to A.I. Skynet. The question is not about: “what if?” but “when?”

    I remember when my big brother who is a big man himself, told me of his trip to a High Tech Industry Convention with all the latest technology in L.A. and while he was there he saw this movie, and while he was telling me about it I interupted him and asked you mean you could SHOOT HIM WITH A 12 GAUGE SHOT-GUN AND HE WOULD STILL GET UP!?!?!? He say YEE-UP!!!
    And it was just the way he was telling us about the movie was like the Spookiest Camp Fire Ghost Horror Story ever told!!! Man I slept with the lights on that night and my brother even let me as he was on the top bunk!!!

    People think of Terminator as action movies but the orginal is most definitely a horror/thriller movie, and a damn good one too. Miss the 80s!

    This is one of my favorite scenes from this movie. It's simple yet brilliant, to have Sarah lean over just at the Terminator is walking by. Love the slowed down footage and the eerie effect done to the music. What a moment. And to see it so clear and colorful in 4K!

      It's my personal favorite scene from the first film. If I had to choose a favorite scene, I would always choose this one. Because here in Tech Noir everything just fits together. The first meeting of the 3 protagonists, the action, the drama, the music, the tension. Everything was just right here.

      That's exactly what I was thinking...great re-master! I'd buy it on 4K UHD at that current quality and I'm watching it on a 2024 iMac :)
