Honestly I kinda like how Sephiroth is just utterly toying with Cloud in the remake series. He just knows that he’s going to get that which he desires, and that in obtaining it this way will bring despair through the belief that nothing will change for them

    • @airget
      @airget 3 месяца назад +18

The slight nuances are interesting as well, because in the OG it's just Cloud, Tifa and Aerith with Tifa stopping Cloud from beating on Aerith but at the same time everyone KNOWs that Cloud gave the materia to Sephiroth.
In Rebirth it feels like Aerith is very aware of what's going to happen, the added sinister nature of Sephiroth toying with Cloud knowing that he has no control over his free will as he drops the materia only for him to give it back to Sephiroth but then the added nature that Aerith hides that fact that Cloud gave it to Sephiroth, it's very slight change but very impactful as the group wouldn't blame Cloud for what happened even though it still remains his fault that Sephiroth got the Black Materia.

Ok, after watching this scene again I have come up with a theory.
So in Rebirth, the Black Materia that Sephiroth manifested is the same one he got from Cloud in the OG timeline while he was in his frozen state which ended up awakening the Weapons. Basically, from the future. He used that to screw Remake/Rebirth Cloud's mind up as we see it here.
If anyone's seen the ending of Rebirth, we see Cloud holding the Black Materia even though we literally saw Cloud giving it back to Sephiroth before falling down with Aerith where the Temple used to stand.
In the OG, the Temple was actually the Black Materia which the last time we ever saw that was when Cloud gave it to the real Sephiroth. In Rebirth, we saw the Temple compressing itself and fall down hard, that's the remake's timeline's Black Materia, the same one we saw Cloud holding at the end of Rebirth. He must have gotten it when he fell down with Aerith there.

Tifa behaviour in the Rebirth version of this chapter felt very inconsistent if you ask me. She's not displaying anywhere near as much concern for Cloud's mental state as you'd expect, especially since in chapter 9 she made a clearly firm declaration to protect Cloud in anyway she can, both from Sephiroth and from his own degradation. In fact she's oddly passive about his change in attitude, with only a couple exceptions. But those very exceptions were too short, came far too late, and were too few; she just felt out of character for the most part. Obviously this is meant to be an Aerith centric climax all things considered, but I believe it's equally important to ensure that Tifa's own character development isn't misinterpreted or overshadowed just to make Aerith look good, especially when you consider what's gonna occur in part 3, which I really, REALLY hope they don't screw up. There's a certain balancing act that needed to be upheld here, but they missed the mark by a pretty wide margin.

I found the Rebirth version is some kinds of weird, though I really like the part where Cloud went insane and chasing Aerith like a villain. Firstly Sephiroth took the materia and pass back to Cloud and ask him to pass back, what kind of basketball passing game is it? I know it is just toying Cloud but seem so unnecessary, I would rather cut it away. Secondly, it looks like Barrett is at fault because he threw the black materia away without care. This really look bad in the storyline, it wasn't Barrett's fault in the original, nothing to do with him. Thirdly, it appears that no other members are helping?

Gotta be honest. While yes it’s not shot for shot each scene, no scene has been far away from the original. It’s either been anywhere from 60-90% of what the original did. All of the scenes either call back to previous setups, or just changed to make more sense. And anything that seems “very” different could’ve just been par for the course if the game happened slightly differently. Our own head canons have all changed so much and the extended universe of it all over the years has been included in some small way.
The ending did so some…odd things. But I keep revisiting it and honestly we’re all still on a similar course, aside from what will be some ending changes and surprises. I still give it a 9/10.

Yea I wish they kept that pep talk tifa and (mostly) Barrett have with cloud to get him to go save aerith. As a fan who was first introduced through advent children I did think to myself why is everyone just ignoring cloud and his crazy brain spasms. Played the og n realized they not only did not do that but certain elements are just stronger in the original . Cloud has much more of a personality and the party is much more reactive to him.

I think I'm forgetting a bunch of other "conflicting" stuff too. But SE sure decided to bend their game(as well as add a bunch of cringe content), even though no one aside from some Twitter people would care.

Well, Tifa x Johnny would blow up a lot of people not only on Twitter though... lol. The OG had its share of things that were up for the player to decide. But that scene Costa del Sol always felt to me like Tifa is really into Cloud, but she also kinda likes Johnny and thinks he's sweet, so she spends a night with him. I'm sure that after FF7 became pretty big, the devs regretted adding that scene, as you can't have the main girl doing something like that, lol.

The ending of ff7remake was incoherent this ending at least makes sense if you think about it even for someone who hasn’t played the og. With the way these games are there’s no way they were ever going to do a 1 to 1 copy of the Og ending or do a really quiet aerith death because of how bombastic these games are. Makes you think that the more provoking version was the blocky PS1 game for little kids from the 90s while the new, shining, and well acted remake for grown ups in their 30s and 40s runs away from any controversial imagery.
And no, it's not because of the woke agenda or whatever.
One is produced by a giant corporation worried about its stance, and the other by a small company formed by independent youths doing whatever they want.
It's not bad as a new depiction...but really makes you think about how corporations work.
A poor guy makes something that gets a lot of traction. Then, white collars buy him and his little company and milk the shit out of his idea while neutering it to death.
Yes, let's talk about fate in the new one all the time.
