Thanks for the breakdown Shawn, very helpful. One drawback to the volume technique is that it does not render when the camera is inside the object and so you wont be able to fly through the volumetric clouds. Do you know any way to make that possible?
great vid man. I'm on R17, and my Magic Preview window doesn't behave like yours. When I click "Click to Enable", instead of showing the render inside the MP window, it brings up the V-Ray frame buffer and renders there. Is this just a feature that doesn't work in R17? or is there a setting that I'm missing that allows the render to show up right inside the MP window? Thanks!
Reuben Lara thanks man yeah that's interesting I'm not sure what could be going on there... Could be a bug or maybe a feature with vray I haven't updated past 3.4 yet so maybe it's something with the newer version of the vray?
Super super helpful ! Sean thank you - I'm probably getting the right next after octane. It's such a standard . I'd like to know what your set up is CPU wise. I have a dual CPU, with 28 cores.. Do you think this is going to be fast enough to keep up with octane?
not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my girlfriend for the last couple of days =)
I don't know if I would agree wit the sentiment - you're not using the vray IPR bc it doesn't work. Also doesn't work with hdri. Further, Redshift figured out a materials node editor despite vray 3ds already having one yet vrayc4d doesn't. I've been using c4d vray and 3ds vray for sometime and while I prefer the c4d UI(snappy and intuitive), vray 3ds just works properly. That being said I often put up with the 3ds(which I find the UI to be clunky and ugly in comparison) because I can trust the chaos group build.
Once I set the noise map in my Volume Material parameters, the material stops working. It just gets transparent. Any ideas why? I've been doing everything just like in the video. Thanks in advance if there's anyone ready to help
hey, can you please share your pc specs, thank for the tutorial i didnt finish it yet but wanted to ask after you said a pretty damn fast computer :D ?
Mahmoud Galal Thank you for watching the tutorial and yes this particular one was created on a dual 20 core Xeon machine that I built about a year-and-a-half ago... This machine has a Cinebench score of about 4800. This machine also has 64 gigs of RAM. For the money if you want a very fast computer I would highly recommend the 16 core threadripper chips. Or a my other machine I have a 12 core I9 chip which is overclocked to 4.4 gigahertz and that is actually my main work machine...
everything so white when i render, like everything is having the same material and the intensity is so high i didnt play in anything yet. i dont know why i just installed vray for cinema 4d and was going to give it a shot with your tutorial.
Mahmoud Galal I would start out with a very simple scene and just make sure that you are using v-ray physical camera and that nothing is crazy over exposed
Shawn Astrom would love if you can give me your email, i am working in a project and i would like your opinion on something, totally will understand if you rejected. Sorry for my english, thank you.
YOU SAVED MY LIFE WITH THIS TUTORIAL!
OMG I LOVEE YOU i´ve been looking for this for to long
Thanks!

It's 2020 and I still find this very useful! You should make a course about this : )
Thank you, so much useful info here, top guy for sharing it Shawn.

ok cool, will look into it. thanks!
3.6 just came out, with improved VDB support (though still no Team Rendering with VDBs; but DR should work if the VDB is on a shared network drive).

Yes indeed. More about what engine you like most though.
You've helped me a lot man, thank you!

@Kyle Jayden Definitely, I have been watching on instaflixxer for months myself :)
wow, ur knowledge is amazing
Thanks much! I plan on doing many more tutorials soon!
amazing pro .. awesome tutorial
Has Vray updated or let you stack mats. as in like decals for car stickers, logo ?
Master ODONE I think it's actually always had that capability but yes you can definitely do that.
There is a wrapper material in C4D to stack multiple materials and blend them

Amazing tutorial!
Glad you think so!
I don't have a displacement on setting. How can I get it?
Once I set the noise map in my Volume Material parameters, the material stops working. It just gets transparent. Any ideas why? I've been doing everything just like in the video. Thanks in advance if there's anyone ready to help
Really good tut!

Vray or Corona?
Why is your UI so different from mine?
I've just customized it. Cinema 4D has and amazing UI that can be fully tweaked.
Thanks, I#m going to try it
It only took 60 minute to render in my computer. xD
ha, yeah this technique can take quite long to render!
Thank u :)
try flying through it and see what happens! -_-
