  • Driving from the BLM Arctic Circle Campground to Galbraith Lake, Alaska, is an adventure that traverses some of the most remote and stunning landscapes in North America. Starting from the Arctic Circle Campground, located about 200 miles north of Fairbanks along the Dalton Highway, the journey begins in a region where the sun doesn't set for weeks during the summer and barely rises in the winter. The campground itself is a simple but significant waypoint, marked by a sign indicating the Arctic Circle, where travelers can stop for a photo and a moment of reflection on crossing into the Arctic region.
As you head north from the campground, the Dalton Highway-also known as the Haul Road-unfolds through vast stretches of untouched wilderness. The drive takes you through rolling hills covered in tundra, offering occasional glimpses of wildlife such as caribou, moose, and the elusive Arctic fox. The road is mostly gravel and can be rough in spots, so a vehicle with good clearance and sturdy tires is recommended. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you approach the Brooks Range, one of the northernmost mountain ranges in the world.
The highlight of this route is the ascent through Atigun Pass, the highest year-round pass in Alaska at an elevation of 4,739 feet. The pass is notorious for its steep grades, sharp curves, and unpredictable weather, making it a challenging drive even for experienced adventurers. However, the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, glacial valleys, and, if you're lucky, the spectacle of the Northern Lights dancing across the sky. Caution is paramount here, as conditions can change rapidly, and it's not uncommon for snow to fall even in summer.
Descending from Atigun Pass, the landscape opens up into the North Slope, a vast, flat expanse leading towards the Arctic Ocean. After about 60 miles, you reach Galbraith Lake, a serene body of water nestled at the base of the Brooks Range. The lake is a popular spot for fishing and camping, offering a tranquil respite after the rugged journey. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty, with opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and simply soaking in the pristine Arctic environment. This drive, from the Arctic Circle Campground to Galbraith Lake, encapsulates the raw and rugged beauty of Alaska's northern wilderness, promising an unforgettable adventure for those who undertake it.

Wow, kudos to you! It was exhausting staying so focused so as not to hit a large pothole, go off road or generally be in the way. It was an accomplishment though and glad we did it and nothing major happened. Thank you for watching and your comments!

Very nice video. I live in Alaska and had never heard of the Arcic Ocean before. Is that near the Arctic Ocean? But it is on the roadsign on the thumbnail for the video, so it must be there.😊

The Alaskan pipe line road to P Bay looks same as over all condition of our country USA, broken more and more every day, un carried and forgotten, so sad, but nothing last for ever... other than GOD. Empires are born and die. TH

@@nerat_off Что значит "на хер нужна"? Природные ресурсы, да и вообще, русская это земля. А осваивать быстро не обязательно. Аляска карман не будет давить.
