Pacey loses it at the prom..Joey is crushed

  • Okay so I have a love/hate thing with Promicide. On the one hand I love that Pacey finally lets out all of his frustrations (and looks so hot doing it) and tells Joey how he is feeling, but on the other hand he was so wrong to do it in the middle of the dance floor. Not many girls would ever forgive such humiliation.
    And I totally believe that Joey never did completely forgive him until the end of the show. A part of her always remembered how badly he hurt her, and it colored how she saw him. Although, I 100 percent believe that if Pacey had at any time during the end of season 4 asked Joey to take him back, she would have without hesitation. (Check out Separation Anxiety for proof.)
    Onto the Ooompa Loompa (lol) I hated how he swooped in to Joey's rescue. Talk about chasing sloppy seconds...he totally ignored his date, Gretchen.
    But back to Pacey...I hold a very unpopular opinion, but I think he was completely justified in his rant. It had been a tough year for him...doing double duty at school, not getting into college, still trying to be the man he believed Joey deserved (and wanted..aka Dawson), oh and the little knowledge about the LIE.
    Yep, Joey Potter crushed him when she lied to Dawson about their night at the ski lodge. Imagine one of the best nights of your life as a couple, totally downplayed and dismissed by the woman you love. So sad. I just want to give Pacey a hug in that scene. Where is Andie when you need her?

      best actress katie ... the break up makes me cry so hard ..i just pity poor joey ..my heart cried for her .. the sadest of joey's lteen age years..and she still is unhapoy is her first year in College ..only Audry help her..when in season 6 pacey wanted to have second chance with joey ..she refused and go back to Eddie.. Pacey realized joey never seriously involved with anyone by pushing them to make them a better men ..

    His insecurities are perfectly understandable though. His horrible family (especially his dad) makes him feel like trash, Dawson always achieves more than Pacey ever could, and Joey is not only incredibly intelligent, but also puts Dawson's feelings above Pacey's. That kind of emotional damage (most of which has been going on since his childhood) has to take a toll on a person.

      @ prettymonsterofevil That's exactly what I have been saying to all the Pacey fans. It is as if they can only find fault in Dawson, but not in Pacey. Dawson being there for Joey for 15 years of her life, being there when she broke her left arm, and being there when her mom died means nothing to Pacey fans. But Pacey buying Joey a wall means everything for Pacey fans. The fact is that most Pacey fans are females and so for most females, when a bad boy like Pacey makes mistakes and then decides to become a good guy, he is forgiven without doubt. But when a nice guy like Dawson makes mistakes and decides to correct his mistakes, then he still continues to be seen as an immature loser crybaby no matter how much he proves to be the good guy.

      He was feeling guilty, unworthy and inferior, because he finally had the one thing that he wanted but never actually believed he could have(she gave him her heart and soul 100%) but he couldn't trust it especially after she lied to dawson about their night together at the cabin and then dawson was also able to pay for her college tuition when he couldn't! So the only thing that he knew to do was to push her away and self sabotage his relationship with her because he'd never had anyone believe in him the way she did that he loved as much as he loved her and it terrified him because he didn't believe he was worthy of her or could measure up and that he would hold her back! As crazy as and horrible as it was to do he actually was selfless and did it from a place of love because he thought he was setting her free and not holding her back because he thought he was a looser(because of his parents and family check out his birthday season 4) and he knew she wanted and needed to move on to pursue her dreams and find her way out of capeside, if she'd stayed with him he felt she would have been settling and never do what her heart and dreams were! Although he was in many ways way to cold, mean and hurt her deeply he knew her well enough to know she wouldn't have listened and would never have let him go so he let go of her(or made it seem like he did) in a way that was too painful for her to turn a blind eye to and then she was able to let go(or made it seem like she did) however it was never really over it was always under the surface but there was so much pain and fear she never gave in until she lost someone whom they both loved and she was finally able to open her heart again and take the chance to make the choice and stop running!

    Impressive and amazing acting there. Pacey is so believable so good in this scene it's amazing. And btw scenes like these are what made dawson creek so unique, some amazing writing and drama could be created simply. No need for "you cheated on me", "i'm pregnant turns out you're not the father" bla bla bla to create good drama. Just genuine emotions coming out of good actors. I miss that.

    I think the important thing is not to dwell on the fact that Joey and Pacey did have these problems, but that they were both young at the time and that you change a lot when you grow up. Most importantly, you should be paying attention to the fact that they were able to fix and grow past these problems.

    From a writers standpoint, this relationship couldn't last this early, especially only at season 4. They're 18, only basically starting their life and Pacey and Joey still have to figure out who they are. There is a reason why I skip season 4 and go to season 6 episode 14 and watch from there.
    Pacey and Joey had a lot to figure out. Pacey was on a different path to everyone else, he needed to learn that that was okay, that he would be fine. Joey had no idea what she wanted.
    I think where the writers messed up was that they wanted Joey/Dawson to work too much. I get the whole soul mate thing, but it was so unrealistic. All the reasons Joey fell for Dawson were before the pilot episode aired, and when we meet Dawson he is so neurotic and whiny and doesnt know what he wants...etc. It was a turn off.
    And Pacey was perfect for Joey especially in season 3. He cared a hell of a lot more about Joey than Dawson did. Dawson was way too selfish and self involved, whereas Pacey legitimately cared and tried to make Joey happy.
    Season four they turned him into someone else, right from the first episode. All the fun, cool things we grew to love about Pacey dissipated beneath a murky, jealous-ridden insecurity. Joey, on the other hand, never let go of Dawson. That did not help matters.

      So where was Pacey when Joey broke her arm or her mom died? He was nowhere around her. Instead it was Dawson who was with her, always caring for her.

      @@TheGuyNobodyReallyLikesI agree. Dawson always took cared Joey. Season 2 . He cared Joey so much. And Dawson knew that he wanted Joey. Joey let Dawson by Jack. And Dawson continued to love her... The season 2 final Joey broke up with Dawson. But Dawson was the only that knew what wanted.

    • @TheGuyNobodyReallyLikes
      @TheGuyNobodyReallyLikes 6 лет назад +8

      @ Artenzias That's right. Even Joey's father told her that Dawson loves her. Unfortunately Pacey fans don't get this. They can't see anything beyond whatever little things Pacey did for Joey. It is like, Pacey shows up for one or two years and does a bit of this and that and says a few things to her, and then he becomes a God who somehow has cared a lot more for Joey than Dawson ever did. Pacey fans are the people who completely ignore what Dawson did for Joey. It doesn't matter if Dawson was there for Joey for 15+ years and did everything for her. But if Pacey buys Joey a wall, then somehow Pacey is the guy who cares about Joey a lot more than Dawson does. It is like saying that for your entire life your mom or dad cared for you and did everything, but then as soon as you get married and your husband/wife does a little bit of things for you, your husband/wife is the one who cares about you more than your parents ever did and that your parents mean nothing. Pacey is a little boy who has no responsibility at all. That's why his own family doesn't want him either. Dawson even lost his love (Joey) just to protect her from her dad's drug dealing thugs. That is the amount of sacrifice Dawson made for Joey. Pacey was stupid enough to ignore the weather warning and go out to sea and about to drown, and then finally Dawson comes and saves him. But Pacey doesn't show the responsibility of repaying Mr. Brooks. Instead Dawson is the one repaying Mr. Brooks all alone and clearing the mess that Pacey made - none of which Dawson was responsible for in the first place.

    This scene is why I never thought Pacey and Joey should have been end game. I felt Pacey never thought he was good enough for Joey and maybe part of it was because he knew he could never compete with Dawson and Joey's relationship or felt guilty about being with her when he knew their history better than anybody, he was Dawson best friend and grew up with them. He just never seemed happy with her. I liked him with Andy and even Audrey. Amazing acting by Joshua.

  • @Theebonyphil
    @Theebonyphil 8 лет назад +32

    Here is what imo lead to this explosion. Now, granted it is not cool or okay that Pacey exploded all over Joey ,and at prom no less it was doomed from the beginning. Season 3 the very end Joey asked both Pacey and Dawson not to make her choose between them. She couldn't choose because she wanted to have her cake and eat it too. Pacey has played secod fiddle to Dawson even before he and Joey were official. Joey was going to let Pacey sail off and away but Dawson "gave her permission to go." I can't stand this about joey ,she always needs Dawson's permission to take big steps in her life. Which brings me to the next point ... In their entire relationship Joey was looking for Dawson to approve of her relationship with Pacey. Pacey bought her a wall, gave her a romantic summer sailing adventure, was the perfect supportive boyfriend, and you'd think the way he doted on Joey Dawson would be far from her mind. Girl your boyfriend is the perfect balance between intellectual and bad boy with a heart of gold. Poor Pacey man . What else could he possibly do ? When you're with someone you claim to love who makes you the center of their world and you still care that Dawson is talking, kissing, and in a relationship with someone else your damaging your boyfriend's ego. She was always selfish in their relationship. She put off sleeping with Pacey because she always thought her first time would be with Dawson?! Why are you with Pacey? That's hurtful to your boyfriend who loves you more than anything. Joey never chose Pacey , but it was more like Dawson begrudgingly gave her permission to not be with him and Joey was apologizing to Dawson for being with Pacey her entire relationship with Pacey. That sucks for Pacey. What truly marked the end of Pacey and Joey in season 4 I feel was when Pacey finds out from his sister gretchen that Joey Potter lied to Dawson about sleeping with Pacey. If that does bring all the insecurities to head in that relationship then Pacey was a Saint up until this happened. It's like Joey basically is saying to Pacey by lying to Dawson about having sex with Pacey: I'm sorry you weren't my first Dawson, in my heart I really thought it would be you and I'm ashamed to tell you that I actually liked that it was pacey. To Pacey it seemed like she was ashamed that he was her first and not Dawson . Talk about ego killer. She apologizes to Dawson for lying to him about it but doesn't apologize to Pacey for it really. I mean it wasn't any of Dawson's business if they slept together so if he was butt hurt about it too bad honestly he has no say. However that lie hurt Pacey the most and was the beginning of the end of Pacey and Joey. They always try to make Joey perfect or a victim caught in between. She never took responsibility for how some of her decision effected the three of them. In conclusion I feel like in real life maybe Eddy was the perfect person for her to end up with because he really was like a perfect mix between Dawson and Pacey. But since this is TV show I'm glad she ended up with Pacey.

Joey for instance. Joey reminds him of the potential he could have had but didn’t. Joey is the girl they all talk about behind her back-felon Dad, no money, sister with a baby, etc. Joey worked through that & made something of herself. Pacey had a bad home life too but in a different way. The difference is Pacey didn’t make the best of a bad situation. He sorta just settled for his mediocrity.

He knew that Joey was always gonna have a piece of her heart for Dawson. He knew that they had something he would never be able to complete with. He knew that she wasn’t fully over Dawson. He was incredibly insecure. His problems with his family. And Joey should have been more understanding to how he felt. Pacey is honestly the best character on here and Joey did not deserve him.

      +Angie Smith What a load of shit, Joey was nothing but supportive to Pacey the entire relationship. He was abusive and surly through a lot of it and here humiliates her in front of everyone. I must have remembered the show differently because I used to love Pacey but on my rewatch I'm finding him complete trash. It's not Joey's fault he is insecure and never took his education seriously while she worked her ass off.

      @ Angie Smith Oh yes, Pacey will never be at fault. All that while everyone was blaming Andie for cheating on Pacey. Then everyone was blaming Dawson for being jealous and a crybaby. Then everyone blamed Pacey's family for thinking of him as a failure. And now everyone is blaming Joey for always thinking about herself. The fact is, Pacey is the one that is the problem. He had all those problems from day one, yet he continues to blame everyone else for it. When there are so many people who see Pacey as a failure, then it can't be them who are at fault. Instead Pacey is at fault.

Truth is both Andie and Joey were both intellectually smarter than Pacey. The difference between the girls was, Andie accepted Pacey for his flaws and let him be him. He never had that before. And was truly happy for the first time since his childhood. Joey accepted Pacey, but also saw his potential. Unlike Andie she pushed him to become better. He was okay with it for the most part. I don't know why they did this to Pacey, like this is legit like a scenario that would escalate to domestic violence - I don't know why they would make Pacey seem like he is capable of that, because in this scene where he cannot control his anger and he takes out all HIS failures on his gf...he seems like an abuser. This is the kind of relationship that would escalate to the man becoming violent and saying things like 'Oh you made me feel this way so I had to do that, it's your fault'. After this I could never ship Joey/Pacey, after seeing how easily he would snap. Joey was nothing but supportive to him in the entire relationship and he was abusive and gross. I prefer Dawson/Joey and Pacey/Andy. I will say that this horrible angry Pacey does not gel with the Pacey in the rest of the show so yeah, I find it confusing.

      Every relationship has its ups and downs. Sometimes y’all yell, sometimes you don’t. I don’t agree with him yelling at her in public like that, and I definitely don’t consider this abusive especially when someone is expressing how they feel. He could’ve did it somewhere where no one was around. Dawson was selfish and childish. When things didn’t go his way, he acted like a kid. Joey and Dawson seem more of best friends than boyfriend/girlfriend. They would’ve never worked out. But, I do agree that Joey always looked for consent with Dawson, which could have definitely made Pacey feel a certain way. Sure, he had his insecurities from his family talking down on him and his best friend feeling like he’s better than him. He could’ve gotten help (something that he has to move on from). He just never thought he was good enough for Joey, he thought she deserved better! I think he spoke highly of Joey, so I don’t see how he was horrible (maybe prom night). Joey had her issues as well, but i think they both complete each other. Pacey just needed to let those insecurities of not being good enough and realize that he is good enough!

      +Agent52k He was abusive and gross. Not Joey's fault he never took his education seriously, and then he literally yells at her in front of everyone and treats her like that?! Fuck that shit.

      stipV Since when is an regular argument abusive? He wasn't in her face or pushing her or grabbing her Lmao Stfu with that lame bullshit. That's the dumbest claim I have ever seen on here. He was hurt and if you can't see why after seeing Joey constantly concerned about Dawson the entire season even though Pacey was the best boyfriend to her then I don't know what to tell you. It was an argument. It was shitty he did it in front of everybody but it was a perfect storm of Pacey already having self esteem issues of being told by his father and various people that he wasn't good enough. He fell in love with Joey and what does she do when Dawson finds out about them? She chooses to focus on rebuilding her dysfuctional crap relationship with the actual emotional abuser Dawson, and left Pacey out in the cold until her master told her to go and then when they get back to Capeside after the summer is was all about Dawson again. Why would it bother her that Dawson was moving on with Gretchen? Why would she be concerned with Dawson's feelings about making the decision to sleep with the man she loved after 9 months? Pacey just felt he was not good enough because he already had self worth issues and dealing with Joey's always putting Dawson's feelings above her feelings for Pacey was supposed to do what? I guarantee anybody would be angry and hurt. Abusive my ass

      @@LesEXO2012 how in the hell is dawson emotionally abusive. People love pacey so much that they bash dawson. Dawson loved Joey and Pacey was his buddy. Those two fell in love it hurt dawson but he found gretchen and pacey had a problem with that. Pacey screwed pacey not dawson not joey. But this scene was great because it captured the true emotions of both of the characters

    In a way, though, no one deserves that kind of public humiliation; they should have handled this in private; but for the drama in the show; it was very well played.
