I don’t think people know how difficult this song is , Tommy clear mentions in some of his interviews “Drivetime” is one of his most difficult songs to play cause it involves hybrid picking and chord shapes that test your hand strength ... The artistry and mastery of this song is just incredible from the warm bass notes to the crisp harmonies and that sweet melody that’s so pleasing to the ear is of the highest level
I just start to (try) learn this song. I can agree more. This song will take me ages. Each sequence request all my attention ;)

Tommy can sing, play drums, ukulele, mandolin, and do a few hundred other things I don't know about.
I always find that pretty distracting if i'm honest. He's a maestro instrumentalist but singing is one thing he doesn't really do that well.
I love that too. It's like the music and the joy it's bringing him is just bursting out of him.

I have seen you twice in concert over the last five years. I am thoroughly amazed as an accomplished guitarist and singer/performer/entertainer. I am currently learning Mambosa. Thank you for providing the instructional videos. I have always played with a pick and three fingers so this piece and my bossa are true that I can play to within my ability. May God continue to bless you and your family and keep you healthy enough to continue on the road.

terrible teacher? I wouldn't say so. His time is precious, and as he said, it would take a long time to go into detail on every single measure. Tommy has taught me more about music and what it means to be a musician than any person, not through the technicalities of his teaching but rather his hard-working yet joyful approach to every song. Regardless, a guitarist wanting to play this song will learn more through "working the song out" as Tommy says, as opposed to a step by step guide to each note.

3:40 I've played guitar for 10 years and I know my way around the fret-board quite well, but that chord is impossible for me to grip without dislocating my wrist and some thumb joins. To get clarity whilst playing the song is just so incredibly difficult. You can stretch and get it just as a standalone chord.. but to be fluent and snake your way over the top of the fret board as you're rushing at pace through the song, there's no way. At least for me. I'd have to practice JUST that for months to get it.
Some clean picking there Tommy. Love it.
Whoever the heck gave thumbs down are guitarist as well but never reach the caliber of Tommy...they r so f*****g jealous... Poor guys!

Hey Linorif! I've been learning this song for the past month and I'm nearly finished learning it. I learned it from Tim Van Roy's videos in youtube and his patreon, he teaches the song bar by bar using TAB and verbal explanation. I hope you get to learn it, it'ts not easy but definately worth learning it.

this does take some work. it took me ages to learn all the little intricacies the right way, by listening. the chords hurt in the beginning and the song itself barely gives breaks until you get very comfortable with the main melody in between verses. i can now proudly play it very well 3 years later 😅 good luck on this song
The first 4 bars alone will cripple your fretting hand until you have the strength and dexterity for it.😂😂
