9.8 lbs for a Harley Benton is quite reasonable. Given their price I'd be fine with that. But I owned one for a short time that was close to 12lbs, couldn't even play it comfortably sitting down because of the pressure on my leg. There was another for sale recently in my area in the US, that was 11 lbs. If Thomann could get the weight of these under 10 consistently I'd probably have 5 of them, they are awesome for modding and such, and the fit and finish is unreal for the price, but my past experience with how heavy they can get leaves me very hesitant.

In my experience they are absolutely not worth the hype. They're sending out the hand picked best examples to RUclipsrs and the ones I've seen out in the wild are garbage. The ones I've put my hands on personally have all needed to be finished being built. I don't expect factory set ups to be incredible but they could at least be in the ball park. Frets just weren't done at all. Several have had wiring and grounding issues. Lots of finish flaws as well. If it's too good to be true, it usually is.
I have to disagree, they absolutely do not send us hand-picked basses. Not sure when you've tried your last HB, but your comment reads like an experience from the very early times of HB.
I just gotta comment here- mine has been absolutely flawless. Zero issues anywhere with frets, or anything else. I wonder if the one you tried was just a lemon, because the one I've got is incredible. I've got nothing but positives to say about mine!
Thats a no for me, hb has been pretty good to me, at their worst theyre great mod platforms and at their best they have felt like theyre padding a good bit above their pay
I have owned this bass (a pink one) for about a year now an i'm not really sure what are you trying to say with your comment?? The bass i have is a good quality instrument and most reviews i've seen have had similar experiences wit the bass. I'm pretty sure though that they discontinued these basses because there was no way they could make something with specs this high (gotoh tuners, baked maple necks) long term.
I don't like them. It's not that their instruments are bad or anything, it's because they rip off everything that doesn't runs fast enough, and sell it for a price that doesn't even makes sense. They literally flood the market and haven't one single original instrument, only cheap knock offs.
I hear you but the presence of these cheaper options doesn't take all those other basses off the market. It gives hobbyists like me soooo much more options for fun. Anyway nearly every single guitar company copies each other. Just last night I was looking at Thunderbirds and what do you know, there's like 10 different companies making them other than Gibson

@@basstheworldofficial Yeah I played a few HB's recently (a guitar and a jazz bass) and they were both great.
Thats a no for me, hb has been pretty good to me, at their worst theyre great mod platforms and at their best they have felt like theyre padding a good bit above their pay
i gotta say, all these guitars being discontinued not even a year after your videos is a red flag for harley benton.
Harley Benton guitars and basses aren’t even worth the Wood it is built of. Stay away.
I don't like them. It's not that their instruments are bad or anything, it's because they rip off everything that doesn't runs fast enough, and sell it for a price that doesn't even makes sense. They literally flood the market and haven't one single original instrument, only cheap knock offs.
But they sound great
I hear you but the presence of these cheaper options doesn't take all those other basses off the market. It gives hobbyists like me soooo much more options for fun. Anyway nearly every single guitar company copies each other. Just last night I was looking at Thunderbirds and what do you know, there's like 10 different companies making them other than Gibson
@@Dariotoma sure, I don't doubt that.
@@asdf2593 all true and valid points. It's more of a personal thing, I think. I'm from Germany and try to avoid Thomann products as best as I can. So you won't convince me to buy any of their stuff anyway. ;-)
@@asdf2593 and don't get me wrong, I'm not here to hate on HB. It's just my personal opinion.

Dont get a Harley Benton. Got one. Terrible.
You got one bad and that means theyre terrible?
no HB is cheap with bad frett dressing and terible nuts, the gottoh series is a half ass attempt,
