also the fact that there were no likeably characters means Tarantino succeeded... its called the hateful eight guys... not the likable one or two and hateful rest. I agree, i loved that everyone was despicable, all characters I loved to hate!
Am I the only one who LOVED Walton Goggins in this Movie?? He's such an underrated actor and im so glad he had his fair amount of screentime in the hateful eight.
I won't lie to you when he was in unjustified I thought he was Johnny Knoxville because they were in a similar crap movie back in the day. I thought wow Johnny Knoxville is one hell of an actor for a good while.I'm now a Walter Goggins fan
There's a certain guitar that meets its demise during this film. Kurt Russell smashes it not knowing it was a priceless Martin guitar made in the 1870s and was on loan from the company.. Jennifer Jason Leigh's reaction when he is about to smash the guitar is definitely real and it's awesome that Taratino left it in the film.
You can actually see Jennifer look offscreen towards where Quentin is presumably sitting right after the guitar is smashed...there's no in-story reason for her to suddenly look off to the side like that. That was genuine shock.
I always thought the yokel type character was made up cliche that is usually portrayed bad, but he really make me believe that type of character actually existed.
Great acting and great writing is always guarantee in a tarantino movie. My favorite is the great Pulp Fiction. excellent example of brilliant criss cross editing and brilliant writing
+Rocky weak* and thats a reason i liked it. reminded me of a bunch of old B movies that would play on tv Saturday nights. wasnt the best but still fun. again everyone can have their opinions.
+Terry Silvester Kurt Russel was the only enjoyable part of that movie. So, while I'll agree that Death Proof was pretty terrible, at least for Tarantino's very high standard, it did have at least one good performance.
absolutely amazing movie. Tarantino is a fucking master. the only thing I missed was Christoph Waltz. He would've been absolutely perfect for this movie.
I just rate the movies one higher than he gives them. Mad Max had one flaw (That being the lacking villain) but it got an A+. An A+ shouldn't mean a flawless movie unless the flaw is huge and takes away from the rest of the movie (like The Dark Knight Rises scripting). Every movie has flaws even tiny ones, like the tiny ones Chris mentions in almost every review. An A+ should just be for the best movies overall, despite tiny flaws. It's sort of a running joke for me now.
A+ is only given to movies that have an impact on the future of cinema, like how mad max will affect action. YES there was a time in 2013 where some movies were given A+ for no apparent reason (American hustle which is an A) but Chris has changed his marking technique
+Don't call me babe! He generally does whenever he's on any screen. From what I hear he's in Quintin's "Inner circle" now because of how he delivers lines. The more he's on screen the better. Justified is one of the most underrated shows ever. Though hard to say underrated because it's rated high on most things but not a lot of people watched it.
+Manta Personally, my favorite Tarantino Character was Vince Vega from Pulp Fiction, i tend to rate characters AS the characters, not as the actors/actresses who played them, but yeah, Vince Vega, loved him in the 90s, love him now
I absolutely loved the film (as I do most Tarantino movies), however I went with a group of friends and it was definitely split. 2 of us loved it, while 2 others thought it was pretty good and 2 thought it was bad. I think in this day in age where attention spans are slim to none, it's tough for some people to truly appreciate it. That said, I'm 24 and couldn't have been more engaged.
I wouldn’t want to watch this in theaters. I’d be too restless. I love watching this at home though. Just being in a winter storm for 3 hours is my favorite part.
Tarantino seems like the kind of guy who _really_, _genuinely_ respects filmmaking as an art form. I watched this movie back to back, I couldn’t have watched it enough, I’m about to watch it again but my god, this movie portrays racism so well but yet NOBODY CARES because it’s so good, it’s amazing, it’s by far my favorite movie ever
Tarantino has become "ol' reliable" for me. Thoroughly enjoyed the Hateful 8. Great suspense and great performances all around. Like you said, something about the way the man crafts dialogue keeps you engaged, even for 10 straight minutes of characters just talking to each other. Agrisberto Hernandez calm down they’re two very beloved movies of Tarantino and they’re more recent so more people have seen them due to Netflix. It’s not just because of the n word lol. Plus Tarantino hasn’t even started on his 10th and final movie, he nowhere near 18
This is a spectacular mystery! One of Tarantinos best films! I love how he gives you a payoff at the end. In Tarantino's films he's slowly building up and up. But eventually the story hits the climax!
Every Quentin Tarantino movie has a long, masterfully crafted build up that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and towards the end your are met with multiple emotions in a fast paced climax, which leaves you grinning like an idiot when the movie ends. Such a satisfying ending and unexpected gory and gruesome plot twist makes this movie a must see for a true cinema connoisseur
Saw the film last night and half way through I said to myself "this film's like a game of clue". The way it was directed to trying to figure out who was the imposter among the eight was just like the board game and I enjoyed every minute. Very glad Chris brought this up and not the only one w/ these sentiments
It's not 3 hours if watched without an intermission. . It's 2:47 and that includes the credits of course. The extended version runs 3:07 and on Netflix it's been cut into a 4 part mini series.
Blingdream when I watched it on Netflix it was one big movie but people say it was cut to four parts. When I watched it there were chapters in the movie and some narration... was that not meant to happen???
It was very appropriate for Tarantino to use a track from The Thing in a film where Kurt Russell is in a snowbound building with someone or someones who are "not who they say they are." That's a hell of an homage.
What is crazy about it is the first time i watched it I turned it off after a few minutes. The second time I watched it all but wasn't sure what I felt. Now I've watched it 30 times probably. It's by far my favorite film by him. It grows on you. It's like a play. It's all dialogue driven.
the movie started of slow but the dialogues were so good as expected that it kept me entertained after like 1.20 hour it kept getting better and better movie was brutal and rly well done 9/10 for me
I'm shocked he raved so much about the movie and didn't say a word about Jennifer Jason Leigh. Her performance was stunning! To be fair, there were so many standouts it's hard to mention everyone, but I saw the movie and absolutely loved it as well, this was a really enjoyable movie and there were no weak performances in my opinion.
Me & my wife were just arguing over whether “The Menu” is a horror film. I can’t see it but she thinks it is. I guess to me for a horror film to be horror I have to feel scared.
He gets off on that well-filmed action thing, and don't get me wrong it's annoying as fuck when they do that too close quick cut shamy cam bullshit, but Mad Max is too simple to be an A plus
Fun fact: There's a quick moment in the film where Kurt Russell's character smashes a guitar. The guitar was an 1870 Martin model on loan from Martin Guitar museum and was intended to be switched out for a stunt guitar. Unfortunately no one actually switched the guitar and it was totally destroyed.
Hey Chris, if you liked Walton Goggins' performance in The Hateful Eight I highly recommend checking him out in the 2001 short film The Accountant. I'd love to see you review it
I absolutely agree with you on that flashback to the past. So many things felt off about it. The acting was pretty hokey (ESPECIALLY from the woman playing Minnie), some characters looked too modern and didn't seem to fully fit with the time period (Tho it was pretty cool seeing Zoe Bell again so long after Deathproof), and with the exception of a great scene between Channing Tatum and Bruce Dern it almost feels like you could have cut it out entirely and not really missed much. Other than that tho HOLY SHIT what a movie.
This movie has no only The Great Silence as inspiration (the snow and bleak ending), but also The Thing from John Carpenter (again the snow and the suspense) and Heartbreak Pass, a western from 1975 with Charles Bronson also in the winter and snow, almost all inside a train, with the mistery of who's who.
Chris! I can't believe you're not familiar with WALTON Goggins! It's forgiven though cause the majority of what he's known for is television and not movies. But great actor.
emma love Believe me, I couldn't sympathize with you more. However, you DID make the unfortunate decision to browse a RUclips comments section for a film you didn't want spoiled. What did you think was gonna happen?
Fun Fact: The song "Beastiality" is used in on the DVD and BluRay title and menu screen for "The Thing". So it got worked in with a little cameo years later! The first thing I thought of when this movie ended was "How come it's called 'Hateful 8' when there are 10 character?" I saw other people asked this question online and Tarantino himself explains it as there are 8 hateful people and two people who just happened to get caught in the proceedings (O.B. Jackson and General Smithers).
This film felt very Agatha Christie to me, with the narrator commentating over a scene and the Bounty Hunter smartly interrogating the men, really made it feel like a detective quiz for the audience which made it exciting, engaging and intense. You don't really see many movies doing that nowadays so I gotta commend The Hateful Eight for doing so.
Simply a masterpiece, there was even terror & an eerie ass feeling at times, felt like u were in the cabin with them as tensions & anxiety built... my personal favorite film
+Rohan sinha thats a Pandora's box Chris did not want to open, if he gave this film a A+ he would have lost 20% of his subs for giving it a higher rating the Star Wars lol
Films that he's given As to are Inside Out, Spotlight, Hateful 8 and Star Wars. Now Star Wars TFA had a big Deus Ex Machina at the end so I can forgive that grade but the flaws he lists for the other movies can be aimed at Mad Max Fury Road (which had a mediocre villain, see I can name flaws too), which he gave an A+ too. It's fine and his opinion but it just seems silly to not pick like he does.
Never liked any Tarantino movie, but this movie might be the greatest film I've ever seen. Saw it in 70mm and loved it. I give it a 10/10. Great acting, great score, brilliant writing, overall pleasing in many ways.
sure he does, but you missedunderstood my point, the movie studio does.. Miramax needs to make the money back..as well as tarantino,..and who says he doesn't need to? lol.
Is it weird to sit through a 3 hour long movie and still question whether you liked it or not at the end? The movie starts at crawling pace and stays like that for almost an hour but once the dialogue really gets going, it really is quite absorbing.
Also, Chris, I would love to see a spoiler review about The Hateful 8. I absolutely loved the movie's construction, acting, music, pretty much everything...except the reveal when that linear cutaway did happen. Honestly that whole entire reveal infuriated me. Can't really write about it without spoilers, but let's just say the only reason I could see for characters to not act certain ways was, "Well, then we wouldn't have a movie." And although I can let movies slide with that on small things that advance the plot, I can't handle it in this case because the whole movie/climax was based on what the characters do in that flashback. Since you didn't mention being frustrated with that in your review, I would love to hear how you took it! I really enjoyed the movie, but would give it a B+ because of that reveal...
Who cares? GO SEE THE FORCE AWAKENS FOR THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME! Just kidding. Great review, Chris, although I'm not gonna go and see it just yet. I'd rather rewatch "The Force Awakens" a couple of times.
Can't wait to see it? Could you do a Tarantino review series like you did for Shamalyan and Fincher? It'd be so cool to see you review Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and the 2 Kill Bills!
"You're gonna make a deal with this diabolical biiiiitch" I cracked up so much on that bit.
I flipped out, the writing, performing, and slow motion of that scene was hilarious!!
that was a picture perfect scene
@@paulopinzon or how about, "but I don't got no gun!"
Classic.
i kinda find it bad being slow motioned
why does everyone hate the fact there was no likeable charactors, thats what i loved about it
It was interesting for me as well, I didn't know who to side with, which made it hard to guess what would happen next and who would come out on top :)
ExtonRj yeah, that's like half of Trantino's films anyway XD
its a film where everyone hates eachother, if one single person was a clear cut good person that would ruin it all
also the fact that there were no likeably characters means Tarantino succeeded... its called the hateful eight guys... not the likable one or two and hateful rest. I agree, i loved that everyone was despicable, all characters I loved to hate!
I agree. i think it's the reason that this 3-hour film flew by. you never knew who to trust, so you're always on edge and engaged
Am I the only one who LOVED Walton Goggins in this Movie??
He's such an underrated actor and im so glad he had his fair amount of screentime in the hateful eight.
One the best actors working today. If you need convincing, just watch The Shield.
He was funny af in this movie too lmao. He really stands out to me
His performance was fantastic. He was pretty much the best actor in the movie. Even better than L. Jackson. I loved him.
I won't lie to you when he was in unjustified I thought he was Johnny Knoxville because they were in a similar crap movie back in the day. I thought wow Johnny Knoxville is one hell of an actor for a good while.I'm now a Walter Goggins fan
Update.
I just rewatched Sons of anarchy and HOLY SHIT, this guy can do EVERYTHING..
Blingdream wait what ze fuck I thought Cinema Sins was joking about this
Everyone always saying this was an accident, but it was totally done on purpose to get a more genuine reaction
You can actually see Jennifer look offscreen towards where Quentin is presumably sitting right after the guitar is smashed...there's no in-story reason for her to suddenly look off to the side like that. That was genuine shock.
Antique Martin guitar: priceless
Jennifer Jason Leigh's reaction to it being smashed: priceless
Quentin Tarantino's practical joke: priceless (to him)
did you not feel like Tim Roth was kind of just acting like Christoph Waltz? I feel like his part was written for Waltz
Waltz was originally supposed to be in the movie, but he wanted to do Spectre. So it's possible that was his role
I thought that to, but QT wrote it for Tim. The only character he didn't write for a specific actor was Daisy.
Tanner Newcomb I that it was Waltz..lol
I don't think Waltz could have pulled Mobray off, especially with the third act twist.
Tanner Newcomb DEFINITELY
whatever you do don't ask sam jackson for a blanket
Lmao! That shit was "Cold blooded"!
What a fucking story! I didn't expect that shit
Lolololololololololololol
"...and it was covered in blood so you KNOW it was warm!" And he never did give him that blanket...damn
Was he telling the truth or just trying to get a reason to kill a confedorate
damn that part was grusome

This should have more likes.....
Ashlynne Renae and also your reply
@@sameerhafeez7029 and also your reply..
Sam and Walt near the end are pretty likeable
No kidding, people complain so much about that, that sometimes I wonder if a huge group of people just misread the title as "The loveable 8"
one of the most rewatchable 3 hour movies of all time
I never feel like it is a 3 hour long movie. It's just splendid.
Walton Goggins should've been nominated probably along with Samuel L Jackson
I expected him to be the weakest part of the film but he really pulled it off.
I always thought the yokel type character was made up cliche that is usually portrayed bad, but he really make me believe that type of character actually existed.
Goggins is fuckin awesome
Agreed!
Goggins is amazing. Truly one of the best actors working today. If you don't believe it, you need to watch The Shield.

I found that extremely odd

TorTorTalks omg
Ertuğrul Alper no one cares
His laugh in this movie was hillarious
TorTorTalks lol that shit was hilarious. He said I pulled out my Big Black Dingus and put it in your boys mouth. How fucked up.
There wasn't an intermission when I saw the movie. I really had to piss for the last hour.

there was only an intermission if you saw the extended 70mm version

Only the extended version has an intermission.
Walton goggins is hands down the most underrated actor ever, he needs to be in more Tarantino films

The irony of Kurt Russell being stuck in a single location, surrounded by snow, and suspicious of everyone again since The Thing is hilarious
The pacing at first was a little slow, but when it picks up it is amazing

Ah, back when Chris was still lighthearted and in love with reviewing films. How I miss thee
Contrary to popular opinion, I enjoyed this more than Django Unchained
Me too. Hateful 8 is better than Django
I love both film but this one is more fun
@Agrisberto Hernandez At least do your research so you don't look like a dumbass. He only has made 10 films.
Agrisberto Hernandez calm down they’re two very beloved movies of Tarantino and they’re more recent so more people have seen them due to Netflix. It’s not just because of the n word lol. Plus Tarantino hasn’t even started on his 10th and final movie, he nowhere near 18
Me too🤗
Chris please review Taxi Driver.
YES. YES. YES.
+sam lasley you talking to me?
Both of you. I love Taxi Driver and Raging Bull
Ah, now I get the reference! Good one ;)
Better tet, make an in deph analyzes
This is a spectacular mystery! One of Tarantinos best films! I love how he gives you a payoff at the end. In Tarantino's films he's slowly building up and up. But eventually the story hits the climax!
The acting was amazing and the dialogue was great. This was easily one of my favorite Tarantino films ever. Brilliantly done!
Reservoir Dogs A+
Pulp Fiction A+
Jackie Brown A
Kill Bill: Volume 1 A-
Kill Bill: Volume 2 A-
Death Proof C-
Inglourious Basterds A
Django Unchained A+
The Hateful Eight A+
Inglorious bastereds is easy A+ for me. His best movie in my opinion.
George Wyatt Once Upon a Time In Hollywood: A
OOFER GANG that’s Quentin Tarantino’s materpice
His only bad movie imo is Death Proof and Jackie Brown was okay every other film he's done is either great or a classic
Hateful 8, inglorious bastards should be the only one with a+
Grats on 500k, Chris
Besides too long shots of snow, this IS an A+! Love your stuff btw... Keep it up.
@@kingsaiyaf8400 It's the extended version that's cut into 4 parts. Both versions are on Netflix
It's all dialogue driven.
walter Goggins was my favorite character, he had me cracking up every time he was on screen
the movie started of slow but the dialogues were so good as expected that it kept me entertained
after like 1.20 hour it kept getting better and better
movie was brutal and rly well done
9/10 for me
I'm shocked he raved so much about the movie and didn't say a word about Jennifer Jason Leigh. Her performance was stunning! To be fair, there were so many standouts it's hard to mention everyone, but I saw the movie and absolutely loved it as well, this was a really enjoyable movie and there were no weak performances in my opinion.
Just drove to Boston to see the Hateful Eight Roadshow with an actual film projector and it was one of my favorite theater experiences
watched it yesterday, i also can say i think it's part horror film. Overall, i think it's Tarantino's best film by far.
Agreed . Absolutely phenomenal
Me & my wife were just arguing over whether “The Menu” is a horror film. I can’t see it but she thinks it is. I guess to me for a horror film to be horror I have to feel scared.
I still can't believe you gave an A+ only to MM:FR...
It was too shiny and chrome. It drove Chris completely mad!
He gets off on that well-filmed action thing, and don't get me wrong it's annoying as fuck when they do that too close quick cut shamy cam bullshit, but Mad Max is too simple to be an A plus
why? it was amazing
Fury road is a B at most IMO
Pladrassil because there were so many other films that deserves A+
Dude you gave don jon an A+ surely this is gotta get an A++......
fans a+
Fun fact: There's a quick moment in the film where Kurt Russell's character smashes a guitar.
I'd love to see you review it
3 hours... my back is hurting already
He said it has an intermission
it's 2 hours and 47 minutes
+Danyel Perão Trust em when i say the time just flies by! One of the best films I've watched this year!
+Brandon K. It's not having an intermission for the wide release
+Brandon K. It didn't for my theater pretty sure that was for the special screenings.
Man, I’m surprised Stuckmann didn’t point out the similarities to this film and The Thing.
I finally watched it! The camera work was just perfect and beautiful. The dialogue was a masterpiece. 🗣🗣🗣🗣
+Jason Clark (JJayBANE) The Shield and Justified are fucking awesome.
+MUSICLOVER23429 Hell to the yes.
I loved this movie but I think Kurt should have lasted longer.
but Kurt and Sam did outstanding
fuck you
I was looking forward to this movie and you fucking ruined it
emma love Believe me, I couldn't sympathize with you more. However, you DID make the unfortunate decision to browse a RUclips comments section for a film you didn't want spoiled. What did you think was gonna happen?
Napalm Vibe his death was the reason the plot got interesting
First and last time i’ve heard the word “Haberdashery.”
really??
Also used in the movie did the departed "Your best? What do you think we are in the haberdashery business?"
HATS N TIES CHAPEAUS N CRAVATES,ARE THE WARES FOR PURCHASE AT YON HABERDASHERY MY GOOD MAN
Fun Fact: The song "Beastiality" is used in on the DVD and BluRay title and menu screen for "The Thing".
Why does Quentin Tarantino look like my aunt?
+Taylor Young Why does your aunt look like Quentin Tarantino?
+Taylor Young Maybe she's directed by Joss Wheaton.
+toho shankme What if his aunt IS Quentin Tarantino? The plot thickens....
+Generic Name I don't get it.
+Generic Name what
Damn I thought it would get an A+.....
+Rohan sinha thats a Pandora's box Chris did not want to open, if he gave this film a A+ he would have lost 20% of his subs for giving it a higher rating the Star Wars lol
He's given A's to Spotlight, The Revenant, Star Wars, and now this. In my opinion, they all deserve the extra +
+That Guy on the Right He gave to The Revenant A-
+That Guy on the Right AGREED. If he gave Mad max an A+, he's gotta give these an A+. Either way listen to the review and not the grade.
"TERANTINO YOU STILL GOT IT"
What do you mean by that ,he never lost even an inch of his art and his writing keeps on improving...
Never liked any Tarantino movie, but this movie might be the greatest film I've ever seen. Saw it in 70mm and loved it. I give it a 10/10. Great acting, great score, brilliant writing, overall pleasing in many ways.
I love this movie! Might be my second favorite Tarantino film.🐺
Actually I keep it for first ....this is the text book definition of tarantino movie ....followed by Jackie brown
This movie wont survive this close to TFA.
dont think it needs to
+Tamani Wheeler well im sure tarantino wants it to make money lol and it will flop
james williams he really doesn't need it to make a lot of money, that's evident by the slot he put this movie in.
sure he does, but you missedunderstood my point, the movie studio does.. Miramax needs to make the money back..as well as tarantino,..and who says he doesn't need to? lol.
james williams well I mean. If they were looking for a lot of money they wouldn't put it next to star wars
Wow the fact that it was over 3 hours totally went over my head lol It felt like a 90 minutes movie to me. It was awesome!
Damn I was expecting an A+
You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris????
A Royale with Cheese???
KekLord Tell me What does Marcellus Wallace look like?!
+Tici Toty Tony What?
+Tici Toty Tony Why the fuck you do that!
KekLord ^______^ such a classic lol
Who cares? GO SEE THE FORCE AWAKENS FOR THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME!
Just kidding. Great review, Chris, although I'm not gonna go and see it just yet. I'd rather rewatch "The Force Awakens" a couple of times.
I've seen the hateful eight and I like it more than Star Wars (that's my fucking opinion don't bitch and moan)
fuck star wars!!
+Rotten Toms Movie reviews You can't really compare the two... but you can like both.
+Rotten Toms Movie reviews ok
+jakubgil Yeah Hateful Eight is better than The Force Awakens. Much better in fact, but Star Wars is still great
Can't wait to see it? Could you do a Tarantino review series like you did for Shamalyan and Fincher? It'd be so cool to see you review Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and the 2 Kill Bills!
I wish I could see it, but it isn't shown in theaters closeby until next year.
