Why do sneakerheads(by heart), fix something thats “broken” for resellers? Let the people have access to the products they want w/o having to pay resell.
Prices wont go down on retail. Thats wishful thinking. If Nike/JB want people to keep buying then they need to go back to using full grain leather for their shoes. We are paying a lot more for a lesser product.
@@jethrojacinto2798 i left the sneaker game 9 years ago. Ive worn outlet shoes and regular runners on sale since. “Fashion” becoming mainstream and resellers ruined it for me
Everything is returning to normal. It makes me nostalgic to go to my favorite Foot Locker near my house, see that they have the Jordan Retro 5 "Burgundy" available in piles, retail price that I can buy them without any kind of problem and keep on walking without any kind of problem like in the old days.
I'm so glad the hype is dying down. Tired of every half decent shoe being sold out all the time in minutes. Maybe now people can actually wear their shoes.
I got completely out of the sneaker game when I saw what happened with Kobe shoes. The line was at a place where they were widely available to all the real fans, then he tragically passed away and quickly people capitalized on his death. This was sickening to me. Then Nike comes out and says future releases will go to people with Kobe purchase history. I estimated I have around $7,000 of Kobe rated product purchases, dating back as far as 2005, yet I struck out on every release since his death. So I’m done. I will no longer support this company that doesn’t reward me for my commitment to their product and athlete.
Everytime I see a Complex video for sneaker "shopping" I'm reminded how its dying. You see the faces of these celebrities turn sour when they see the bill. Imagine the common folk trying to get into sneakers and being stonewalled with these crazy prices.

I feel like hype beast culture has really made it hard for late game entry. I’m fairly new to collecting so I was buying a lot of older models and it was pretty smooth sailing 9/10 most older models were fairly priced, but God forbid I miss a current release and toy with the notion of looking on Goat or StockX it’s practically double retail an hour after the release and it takes some weeks sitting, if they do, before the prices level themselves out. Social media can really exasperate this feeling of having missed out so waiting for price stabilization tends to have a lot of people just pull the trigger so they’re not feeling left out making it harder for a reasonable aftermarket price to be achieved
It's a cycle that I've seen repeat itself: Nike limits releases in order to create hype for their products -> people complain that releases are too limited and hard to get -> Nike then floods the market -> Resellers get mad that they can't resell, Nike gets grumpy that they can't drum enough hype -> Back to Nike limiting releases again. Question is, is there a way to make both parties (consumers who just want the product vs. resellers) happy?
No, because it's all artificial. Sneaker companies work with sneaker media (including shoetubers) to tell you what's cool and what you should be hyped about. Instead as someone who will like the shoe for themselves, the majority fall in the trap of "this must be cool, I'm not sure I like it because I don't know what I like." Then sneaker companies will limited the supply to make it seem special, that drives up interest and engagement. Then the resellers come and deplete the stock and jack up the prices. The faster people get over the hype sh!t and buy what they like, this cycle will never be broken. In the end, all this is garbage material being fed to us for huge profit.

no reason to sell something in limited numbers just to create hype. are they handmade ? no. are the materials used rare? no. it's just hype. i'm so glad it's come to an end.
For me, I've noticed a distinct drop-off in hype since the passing of Virgil. Aside from a couple of Travis Scott collabs, there's really been nothing to get excited about. Add to the fact that people are getting sick and tired of losing out to the bot users and, rather than pay those bot users a king's ransom, they're going down the rep route (where the quality is quite often higher than retail) where they can pay a reasonable price for sneakers that no-one in day-to-day scenarios will ever tell the difference.
Its good that the resale market is slowing down. It needs to. The lackluster collabs nees to alow down a lot too, especially with new balance this year. Lazy collab after collab makes them not feel special anymore.
But why should we be worried about those who think they can flip it? That’s exactly what went wrong with the sneaker game in the 1st place. I can’t still going to pick up my space jams from 2010 and no one was there.
In my opinion it's the prices. Sometimes trying to find your size can also deter someone from buying a particular shoe. I would love to try the New Balance Fuelcell line but they don't produce them in a 4e. Great video
That’s facts it pisses me off tho I where a size 14 and the double the price with size compared to a size 12 or 13 which I get it that’s more standard but you would think it would be cheaper at the same time because a lot of people don’t look for shoes in that size
New balance would be your best bet at ever getting wide shoes buddy. They're like the only brand that offers wide and extra wide (4e) versions regularly. Go up a full size in the extra wide or get the More line that run wide to begin with.
Really the every day customer who actually want the shoe to wear it could easily shut reselling down by either you hit on the shoe or don't buy resell. When you buy resell it embolden the resellers to keep scalping. But imagine a reseller buying 10 pair of jordan 3 j balvin an nobody buys period. He would eventually sell them retail or for a lost.
For me personally, i stopped buying Jordans because i felt stupid having to jump through a ring of fire, while juggling chainsaws with an apple in my mouth, just to give Nike my $200. You shouldnt have to go through all of that nonsense to purchase a product! As a business, your product should be easily accessible and your customers shouldnt have to beg to buy your product
Shoe companies lost the point.. that shoe's are burn through items' ... burn through 1 customers will buy another soon. But when 1 item cost $200.00 most don't want to burn through those items.. the expensive priced shoes rarely gets seen on the court- so the advertisement is lost for that expensive shoes- because no one sees anyone playing in it. And when 1 shoe cost $200.00 most people like myself will think about buying 2 decent shoes with that price point instead of purchasing 1 $200.00 shoe
I think it’s not really having to do with the reasons mentioned. Let’s focus on Nike for a second but this applies across the board, they saw that resellers were taking all the shoes and making lots of money off of them at the expense of everyone else. Well aside from that not being right, it also left money on the table. If Nike just produced more products then the resellers are left holding the bag and Nike can sell more shoes at retail price and that makes Nike happy because they sold EVEN MORE shoes than before and that makes the average consumer happy, meanwhile the resellers have to hold their supply because they can’t move it. If you hate scummy resellers then this makes you happy. The price of this is lack of exclusivity but in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t matter much
All I want are sneakers I could really wear and use. Like running shoes. They serve their purpose very well. Not hyped ones sitting only on my shelves.
ASICS is having a record year. So does Decker, who owns Hoka and Ugg, all according to their corporate statements. On Company is also doing record volume.
I don’t even need hype but the retail on many shoes are too expensive, even when Nike runs sales, it’s 20% off, that’s lame…at least with adidas, you can really get steals when they run sales which makes me gravitate to a bigger collection of bargains
Various factors, most covered already but another is society negativity, social media is a cesspool of moaning and spreading misery across everything, movies, music, sports, sneakers are no different, lots of opinions and the negative ones spread like cancer thus creating "that's trash" etc on latest releases
I think once the main people hyping up a sneaker, look like they couldn't tell you anything about jordan, but love his shoes that the love of sneakers game is gone. You've sort of moved on yourself, but focusing more of the practicality of footwear, exploring what else ia out there, and only picking up the things you like that might be hyped if you really like it. I know I've moved to that point, i don't need every release, nor do I want everything.
The trance has been broken. The market is dead for a long time, maybe permanently. People realize these are just shoes - to be worn on your feet, and that's about all.
high prices for terrible quality. Nike/JB intentionally use crappy materials so your shoes look beat sooner that way you keep buying them once they retro again.
I wanted a pair of the varsity red Jordan 11’s sold out on Nike but everywhere on reseller sites ended up buying a pair on Stock x for £151 plus fees but Nike retail price was £179 there also £151 on GOAT. Seems like there all being hoarded buy resellers that are making a loss. I’m in the Uk there’s a pair of air max 95’s on Nike app not an OG colour way & there selling out on Nike for £179 then being sold on Stock X for £300
Like all, 'markets', there'll be highs and there'll be lows. We're currently entering a low and there's a good chance that it'll last a while. As for why, everything from the last 4 years has played into it. COVID, excess disposable income, travel restrictions, manufacturing shutdowns, supply chain issues, travel restrictions easing, rampant inflation, interest rates, housing market madness, the list goes on and on. We had so many people get interested in sneakers in the same way they did sports cards, collectable games, gaming, streaming, etc. It was always going to come to end once people actually got back out into the world. As for profits. The corporations are under the assumption that the gravy train will be running forever more and if it doesn't, the staff are to blame. Nothing more.
LET IT DIE! It is ridiculous that SB's that used to be 150 - 200 bucks are up in the high 100's and into the 1000's. The sneaker market has more sellers in it than buyers because all the resellers are literally selling to other resellers. Add on inflation and just the cost of everyday living going through the roof, people simply do not have the extra funds to buy that $130 - $250 pair of shoes let alone $500 to $1000+. The only people who are mad about this are resellers because their product isn't moving, this whole sneaker was supposed to be just being fresh and wearing dope kicks while appreciating other dope kicks.
I got the Jordan woodland camo and air force orange skeleton for retail was happy wanna get sum special editions i got lucky with the Jordan 3 laser oranges
Its not dying but normalized like 10 to 15 years ago where you could actually pick the colorway that you wanted for your Kobes. Hence "sneaker culture" these days should not be save at all.
The market is only dying if you only see success in a market as making the most money off a product. If you see success as a market actually offering the best selection of goods with the most people possible able to purchase them, then its thriving and was broken before.
No need to fix it. Let it die. Ridiculous that a GR release dunk would “resell” for 2-300 dollars. People that just want to wear their shoes will benefit from it dying.
Tbh it's a mix of over saturation and stagnation plus market abuse from the prospecting market.. I've dropped Nike and Adidas for Hoka and Asics because I'll be honest.. Arahis and Kayanos are better quality shoes than Ultra boost or Jordan's..
Reword it to resale market is dying. Not sneaker market. The sneaker market is from the retailer where they will continue to release and sell. Resale is dying.

The price of this is lack of exclusivity but in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t matter much
Thank the resellers
Good. Glad it’s happening.
All I want are sneakers I could really wear and use. Like running shoes. They serve their purpose very well. Not hyped ones sitting only on my shelves.
I can't believe I actually agree with the points that ChatGPT laid out.
Collabs like AF1 utopia are killing it 😂
ASICS is having a record year.
Wear what you like! I have some hyped pairs but that’s because I like them. I also have plenty that aren’t hyped too and I probably prefer them
Hell yeah thank you! Got the panda s1s and some adi boost slides for freaking $60
its not sneaker market, its resell market, dont mix it up. sneakers are sold at a retail price. the retail price increases due to inflation.
I just buy what I like (which is mainly adidas, and mostly ultraboost).
Good topic! 💥👏🏿
high prices for terrible quality.
I’m in the Uk there’s a pair of air max 95’s on Nike app not an OG colour way & there selling out on Nike for £179 then being sold on Stock X for £300
The sneaker market isn’t dying. Nike and other major brands selling a lot of shoes and making a lot of money. They aren’t hurting at all!
What is there to be "fixed"? Sneakers are generally more available (or affordable) for regular customers, the fix is already here.
These sneakers are too damn high lol
I got the Jordan woodland camo and air force orange skeleton for retail was happy wanna get sum special editions i got lucky with the Jordan 3 laser oranges
Most markets are dying in general. Most companies just keep increasing prices and people can only afford so much 😢
Its basically supply and demand.
Its not dying but normalized like 10 to 15 years ago where you could actually pick the colorway that you wanted for your Kobes. Hence "sneaker culture" these days should not be save at all.
Got out of sneakers in 2012. Galaxy pack changed the game into what it is now. Checking back in and nothing has changed. The solutions are obvious 😂
The market is only dying if you only see success in a market as making the most money off a product.
If you see success as a market actually offering the best selection of goods with the most people possible able to purchase them, then its thriving and was broken before.
Still not dead imo. So many shoes are still impossible to get for retail
No need to fix it. Let it die. Ridiculous that a GR release dunk would “resell” for 2-300 dollars. People that just want to wear their shoes will benefit from it dying.
What can be done to fix it? Stop inflation and use good materials again instead of dulling down looks, while raising prices and cutting collabs
Tbh it's a mix of over saturation and stagnation plus market abuse from the prospecting market..
I've dropped Nike and Adidas for Hoka and Asics because I'll be honest.. Arahis and Kayanos are better quality shoes than Ultra boost or Jordan's..
I moved in to leather minimalist sneakers best decision I ever made 😊.
The prices of sneakers should be low and it's one reason why UA is so popular , sneakers shouldn't cost people hundreds and thousands of dollars.
Reword it to resale market is dying. Not sneaker market. The sneaker market is from the retailer where they will continue to release and sell. Resale is dying.
When there is no more Yeezys and Off-White Nike ollbavs have been ass when they have plenty of greats still unreleased I'm not surprised the market sucks
