    unironically one of my favorite games of all time. Seriously, probably in my top 5. I just loved how chaotic it was as a kid, and today I love showing my friends this game and laughing our asses off at the ridiculousness of doing an octuple backflip and making each other's cars explode. I know I'm rambling, but I just have to gush about this underrated gem of a racer! Great review!

    Had this game in my early teens, and all these tracks and cars are really pushing my nostalgia buttons. I recall unlocking that horror-themed track a bit later too, which increased the replayability of the game somewhat. Finding cars in shortcuts is something I miss from racing games these days.

    This is one of the best games, from EA licensed before EA went downhill, I still have this game and going back to it; its all about boost management and such. I remember writing down all the codes for the hidden cars, of course it changed everytime you booted up the game, still a classic game to this day

    I love how the last championship was a single showdown against both Twin Mill 1 AND 2, the best cars in the game! Little shout-out to Ridge Racer's Duels, there.
    And now there's a Twin Mill 3.
    If this were to be remade, I can think of quite a few cars that need to be in the game, counting the 3 Twin Mills of course!

    Late correction: this wasn't a North American Exclusive. I'm a UK Citizen and my brother and I spent way too long a day looking for all the secrets
    in fact, to make a point. the map where you get Thunder Roller has two secret cars, one's through a door you can break open up the series of ramps near the start. My brother and I found this in the first place by using the explosive barrels near the shortcut to jump up there

    Looks like a great game. I bought it cheap after watching your review. Thank you so much!
    You did give me a scare with the "North American exclusive" remark at the end of the video. I had to check the cart I purchased.. My cart is PAL. Actually the game came out first in Europe. It was released in the US several months later. It also got ported to ps1 pal (no ntsc releases of the ps1 game)

    I was a fan of both hot wheels and the N64 as a kid, so this was a heaven sent combination. To this day I have no idea who i got the game from while interchanging with friends.
    A couple things I didn't like: the odd menus, needing the controller pack to save, the way the very last unlocks never saved, and the reduced amount of tracks (which were great, I really loved the aesthetics)
    This one gets a lot of criticism due to the "borders" of the tracks, which mean you didn't need great driving skills most of the time, but I liked the overall package.
    Is there any current generation hot wheels game that captures this feel?

    Nostalgia? This GAME is nostalgia to me! I remember playing it as a kid 12 years ago! I recently rebought a Nintendo 64, and I found the cartridge, and his is my favorite game right now, because Super Mario 64 is expensive.

  • @Apprentice_of_the_Leonine
    @Apprentice_of_the_Leonine 8 лет назад +3

    The PS1 version is arguably better. It has an FMV intro sequence and thirteen full-length songs in CD-quality audio, meaning you can pop it in any CD player and listen to the soundtrack. Sure the N64 version has slightly smoother graphics thanks to the Z-buffer, but graphics aren't everything. Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping like that FMV intro, which shows all kinds of chaos and mayhem to the tune of Fuel by Metallica. Oh, well. They had to make a lot of sacrifices to fit this game on a cartridge. To give you an idea, the ROM size is 11 megabytes for the N64 version and 553 megabytes for the PS1 version.

    I loved this game growing up, with the kickass theme song and the epic flips and stunts being so gratifying to pull off. The only thing that bugged me was how hard it was to get certain power ups or unlockables hidden in the stages, some which you needed a pixel perfect landing and use of TURBO to get to.

Career mode was kind of tough though, but I have everything unlocked except for one car that I need. I tried the last cup in career mode which is the Twinmill cup, but that I can't seem to beat. Any suggestions?

    • @OOPS-All-Discord-2022
      @OOPS-All-Discord-2022 3 года назад

      Did you beat the Twinmills yet? Everyone I see on RUclips always makes little mistakes that add 15 seconds, like not getting the jump correct or not avoiding the rocks or minecarts. I haven’t played the game in years, but I can recommend the Rigor Motor since it’s one of the fastest and I think it also has durability to protect you from the Twinmills. Also, remember the track itself and optimize the tricks while weeding out mistakes. If you got it all right, you should win in a few attempts or less.

    • @ns4270railfan
      @ns4270railfan 3 года назад

      @@OOPS-All-Discord-2022 Ok, thanks for suggesting. All though I haven't tried that event in years, but whenever I get an opportunity to try it again, I'll try the Rigor Motor. Thanks for suggesting. :)

      @OOPS-All-Discord-2022 3 года назад

      @@ns4270railfan Ok I just found the game and completed it again. The Rigor Motor is a good pick, but both Twinmills have perfect stats and you unlock them both before hand. I’d definitely run with those, but if you want more of a challenge, run Rigor Motor. A big part of the race is getting the stunts perfect. I recommend determining which jumps are good for doing stunts and practicing a bit. If you can’t see your opponents anymore and they’re ahead of you, you might as well restart the race. If all else, fails, set the difficulty slider all the way to easy. Make sure to write the password down if you want to keep your vehicles.

    this game was also part of my childhood i rember unlocking all the racers every last one as a child some where obvouse like how to get super van to being down right a pain in the ass to get (looking at you rolling thunder) and 1 needing the cheat code to unlock (its toejam if im rembering the name correctly) and rembering the brutel ai when you cranked the difficulty up and you unlocked every car (fuck you twin mill cars fuck you)
    the game was fun overall but had little replay value after you found everything and unlocked everything and if it they used the expansion pack they probley could have added alot more

    I loved this game as a kid, we played it a ton in the 2 Player mode. Still an awesome game. But there is something wrong in your Review: It wasn´t a North American exclusive! There is a PAL Version and it was in fact released in Europe, at least here in germany, but seems to be a somewhat rare title for the PAL Territory.

      yeah its rare that i slip like that but it would appear so, I've never seen a PAL copy in the flesh so ill have to see what countries it was released in, didn't appear to be in every PAL country kinda like starcraft etc

      @Soonjai 10 лет назад

      True, it could be possible that it wasn´t released in every country. Like I said it was released in germany, but I haven´t seen a copy in many years either. As far as I know there is also a PS1 Version that also has 3 more Tracks.

      Soonjai yeah defo has a ps1 version, i think this version looked better because the playstation has a more pixelated look and the smooth textures suit this game better IMO

      ps1 or n64? they are pretty much the same however. I'm a big racer fan so I'm bias a little when it comes to unusual racers

    Could you please try to play Stunt Racer 64 thru and review it? The tutorial is pain, but you don`t need to do any stunts while playing. Stunt Racer 64 is one of the best racers on N64.
