bro got me to watch a msi afterburner tutorial
lmao for real
literally XD
yeah as if i did not know it already lol
I know I already have it and use it, but I’ll still watch the full video
IMHO anything that installs Norton should be classified as malware itself.
Agree. Software that measures performance shouldn't be bundled software that will reduce the results of the measuring software.
Oh wow that is so funny! You are a genius.
I run a small computer shop and I have a pile of Norton codes that I got for free but I refuse to install in on any computers. Hell I wont even sell them, I'm just keeping them prisoner :p
@@ElDavo9000thank you for being a hero. You saved countless people migraines by doing that.
@@ElDavo9000I would give them to people I don't like
FYI, the AMD adrenalin overlay has gotten pretty damn good
Nvidia overlays somehow got worse after Nvidia moving to Nvidia App
It maybe because it is still in beta but it is worse in current state.
Microsoft Xbox Gamebar Overlays nowadays is good enough for almost everything anyways.
Until amd overlay can distinguish between a game and anything else afterburner is still top dog.
Not to mention, kind of necessary if you use fluid motion.
@@Touma134I not often I experience that as a problem, and then it's only a matter of ctrl+shift+o and it's gone.
The only downside to this video is being reminded that Norton still exists.
G'day Dawid,
Yeah Afterburner is the OC Program & RTSS is the OSD Program, I've answered this question in comments many times on many different channels too.
PS Dawid & Anna Have a safe trip, excited to see what you find in South Korea
Thanks for doing a video like this! I like seeing how the pros do their software!
I used after burner on all my Nvidia builds and adrenalin on all the AMD ones. Great applications
This video is pretty useful.
I have always to a degree wondered how you have gotten these informations on the OSD.
This guide may be a little longer than others i have seen so far, but definitely one i would recommend for a comprehensive instructive guide :)
One warning for those who plan on using these programs on either Twitch streams or RUclips videos or other monetized video content, you really need to get a commercial licence for these software packages. Linus and other content creators have gotten in trouble for using personal use licences, commercially.
I think it might have a bit more to do with how every single stream he advises people to NOT use the features of the platform that the platform makes money from and instead only use merch messages where LTT makes all the money.
I've never had much luck getting the actual overclocking features in MSI Afterburner to work, but the overlay is kinda cool.
And the overlay isn't even MSI afterburner, it's Rivatuner Statistics Server, Afterburner just interfaces with it and gets Credit for the overlay it isn't even putting on the screen lol.
Thank you, this is exactly what I wanted to know.
I find it hilarious how MSI made this pretty first page of the installer to smuggle Norton through, and the very next step it reverts to the legacy installer from Windows XP days.
Find it equally funny they added a couple tabs to configure another app, included that app in the installer and then get all of the credit for the overlay that app produces.
It's made by the same guy, so not really stealing credit.
I went through old videos to find this answer! I remember the old software and how a viewer recommended this to Dawid.
Glad to see this getting put out there!
Thank you very much for your hard work every time. Answering questions is a good thing too,
2:18 Holy shit, I've been using Afterburner/RTSS for years, and I NEVER knew that was how you figured it out, other than just selecting both and seeing which number was clearly the correct one. I'll be damned, Dawid actually taught me something today!
That sounded really back-handed, but I swear it wasn't.
What a great video! Definitely was not an intuitive setup for me when I started messing with it
This was very helpful I’m definitely gonna use this today even tho I have no worries about performance- it’s just fun to see the stats. Thanks!
I already figured out how to set it up, but even for me it's nice to know I did it all right, excellent video that has use for everyone.
thanks that was actually useful
This is a fantastic idea for a ongoing video series
Perhaps like a "weekly review of 5 fantastic/must have new/trending software"
Awesome thanks for the info Dawid
Ah! Ive seen the part of the process I've been missing! Cheers 👍
Jesus I stopped watching videos about computers for so long that Dawid has long hair now 😂😂😂😂
Quality content, thanks Dawid!
Great video! Ive seen Jay setup Afterburner, but couldn't do it on my system. I think I've got it now. Thanks!
When did you figure out that framerate graphs arent the same as frametime graphs? That drove me crazy in old videos, glad you fixed it!
Thanks for the walkthrough!
It's a very helpful video for gamers to monitor the performance and benchmark their graphics card.
Very useful thank you for sharing
It’s been such a long time since I’ve check for updates on afterburner that I’ve completely forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder Dawid.🤙 MSI Afterburner is a must for any PC gaming rig.
Nvidia rigs, sure. It gets in the way of adrenalin so I have no use for afterburner on my all amd pc.
@@Tomazack Mind explaining how it gets in the way of the Adrenalin app?
The music running around 11 minutes I think Global stations used to use that for their sports stuff in the '90s.
You've made my procrastination easier
I watch every video after subscribed and I just install MSI after burner about 10 mins ago and this video pop out. Noice :>
I was thankfully able to figure the MSI Afterburner overlay settings out, but having this video would've saved a lot of time lol
Brilliant video. Thanks.
If you are running Windows, and only need to monitor the bare minimum of your computer’s performance, there is a built-in monitor software: if memory serves me correctly, you only need to press Win key + g (simultaneously) to access it
uhh more useless game-bar crap.
Appreciated!
That symbol is called hyphen
dash is okay, too.
thats awesome dawid
You actually can use -allow_third_party_software in CS2 while playing real matches. Been doing this since the release, don’t know why there’s a myth that you can’t. So monitoring while playing an actual match is absolutely possible.
The setting for framerate limit in RTSS is pretty useful as well for non-conventional locked FPS options
yes, some games do need that and this is the best method
Clear win for AMD’s Adrenaline over Nvidia. Afterburner is nice so you can use the same overlay for different cards. Awesome video Dawid. Thank you!
You don't really need afterburner for that you can just use rtss and hwinfo for the same tasks.
Very useful video!
Thanks Dawid!
nVidia also has the nVidia app , which gives customization to the overlay
you can do quite a bit of customization to the RTSS overlay too but you have to do it through the RTSS app and not Afterburner (which isn't actually doing any of the overlay)
The software that does the overlay is Riva Tuner Statistics Server which MSI afterburner installs and interfaces with.
crazy budget for this video! 😄
thank you
yay new Dawid!
MSI Afterburner is a must
Dawid try an FX CPU on windows 11 for fun and an ancient GTX 980 ti to see how it holds after 10 years
so you want to see a video where is explained how to make the usb installer that doesnt ask for tpm in rufus and want to see if is a good idea to buy that 980 you saw cheap
@@arch1107 no I have my Rx 6950XT but I spend 7 years with my GTX 980 and I'm curious to see how it holds now that I got rid of it 10 years after the release. I love see youtubers struggling with obsolete tech because is fun content
Funny, I always wondered about MSI Afterburner but I'm not a gamer so it wasn't a priority. Norton? Yuck! My only remaining question is can Dawid rant about free software like he does hardware? Good video!
i was just using everything you put in the thumbnail to benchmark cyberpunk
Also, Intel's overlay option is actually pretty informative as well. The only thing it's missing, hilariously enough, is an FPS counter. However, if you hit Win+G and use the built in gamebar overlay, it will act as a good workaround.
I can't believe how many people still keep asking about MSI Afterburner. It's like every PC hardware channel talks about this everyday and a lot of people still don't know.
that people are kids, that do not know that it exists, and never forget the second question most of those ask, do i need to have msi hardware to use this?
I don't get why people use Afterburner with RTSS always when there's better options to use with RTSS.
Because there are 1000s of people entering pc gaming for the first time every day!
@@lighthawk95List those options.
Thank you sir!!!!
Honestly, the software anyone should install is CapFrameX, Process Lasso and Revo Uninstaller.
Cap Frame does not have the overclocking, but a far more detailed overlay option.
IIRC you can add the HWINFO items to, say, a "RAM" group in order for them to appear all in a single line, gouped as "RAM" or whatever label you choose for it.
And the order of it from left to right is according to the order of the list of sensors/items. You can drag them around to change the order.
@@dex2531 Yep, correct.
ive had the same msi afterburner installer on my pcs for years, havent needed to install/uninstall for ages and didnt know they push norton now lmao. what ever makes them money ig its solid software
nice, thanks :)
Dawid Does Tech Tips
That's exactly why when I used to use nvidia cards, I always download MSI Afterburner. But after I bought my 7800 xt, I uninstalled it since the software had all the monitoring I needed.
I found it useful, I've used all three. AMD version is the most straightforward
Btw you can have the exact same overlay with HWinfo and RTSS. I just use this now, no need for MSI AB, since adrenaline is IMO enough for OC and stuff
And you do get a proper label if you just do it that way
It is worth mentionong that Afterburner often collides with Adrenalin, and you get wierd GPU behavior or even driver timeouts or blue/blackscreens so it is a good idea to use Adrenalin only if you are a AMD GPU owner. Afterburner is fine with Nvidia.
Great video 🙂
Dawid - 'Sarcastic Tech Jesus'
This was great thanks Darwid very helpful.
Thank you always have wanted to know what software you used 😊
For the CS2 launch options thing... idk if you thought that way because it was like that when the setting was initially created, but you CAN play online with it as people who record in OBS have to use it for the game to pick up.
Now idk if this system was put into CS2, but it was rumored back in GO that it lowered your Trust Factor having it on, but with how CS2 premiere has looked I bet trust factor doesn't matter/exist anymore.
bruh i was just trying to find vids about this, perfect timing
That bit about -allow_third_party_software command is incorrect, you can use it all the time and play with other players, online, without any issues.
Now and then Dawid reminds us that he's not simply an influencer for ali express waifu decals!
Thanks for this! Also, I was a bit annoyed about Norton popping up, MSI lost some points on that one.
This is very useful, thanks David, sorry, Dawid
Omg the amd overlay hotkey thanks so much better then having to open the whole program
Yeah AMD users don't use Afterburner, you're good to go with Adrenalin. It will just interfere with it
Will we ever have a talk about MSI Afterburner and RTSS? Closed source software in the hand of a single person that answers passively aggressively to any question in the single forum he/she controls? Shouldn't we focus on a new open source alternative? Linux has mangohud that works wonderfully, why can't we just have it for Windows too instead of Rivatuner?
On Linux you have GreenWithEnvy to handle OC/Voltage for NVIDIA Cards and the AMD equivalent is LACT, they both work perfectly fine.
MSI Afterburner is good. You can make PC go brrrrr with it, and the fan curve editor is very cool, especially when overclocking.
Afterburner gets data for CPU, GPU, fan speed, memory etc, but RTSS just has OSD, fps limiter, and a few other features, so no, you can't get that information without Afterburner, but you may be able to without RTSS with some alternatives to show that info in an OSD. Saying that, RTSS does have some features not many alternatives have such as varying detection levels and stealth mode. It still doesn't work in BF V with those, but from my experience (someone who only really uses Nvidia cards) the best alternative for Nvidia is the GeForce Experience overlay, there's a menu where you can modify some more stuff after you enable it by pressing Alt + Z. Confusing, yes. But that's Nvidia. The in game filter/shader options are pretty cool though I guess.
AMD is still arguably better, I'm just used to Nvidia now...
I use MSI Afterburner overlay 24/7, but I have made it custom and its very small font, barely affects gameplay or not at all, its in a one line sorta style across the top left.
msi afterburner i use its a lifesaver and helps me with my 4060 and i58500 to honour myself
Yeah, the Nvida does that every now and then.... That's why I use the OEM Alienware software and MSI software
You can install RTSS without Afterburner too. It just comes with it.
WinDirStat and AfterBurner is all the software you'll ever need.
You can play online with the third party software in CS2. It's not like the untrusted command that launch the game without anti cheat.
This is the first time Dawid has not described free anti-virus as venereal disease.
Not that it matters much, but im old enough to remember RivaTuner being released to allow overclocking of nVidia's Riva TNT graphics cards (pre GPU terminology). I'm almost certain that it is pronounced Reeva and not River ... Tuner.
Great vid, it also confused me that MSI overlay doesn't work unless a game is running.
If you have any modern amd gpu you can download the amd adrenaline software and that will do the exact same things plus loads more and it's way easier to configure in my opinion. I have both on my main system along with multiple different hardware monitor programs. Most people like to play games. I like to play with hardware and monitors are crucial for that.
I AM SIMPLE MAN. I SEE DAWID, I CLICK DAWID, I WATCH DAWID, I CLICK LIKE FOR DAWID. I AM SIMPLE MAN.
I gave up with overlays from Nvidia to amd i now just use Aida64 with rivatuner stats on a little rassbrypie screen its great
Next question: Dawid How can I get the best OEM gaming PC?
that one is easy, you become the oem and you dont put budget restrictions so you dont buy crap parts
TLDW but here's how it goes based on what you want.
I just want to see my fps or other basics with minimal setup or adjustment: Nvidia/Radion overlay
I want more stats and I'm not afraid of messing with settings:MSI Afterburner+RTSS
I want ALL OF THE NERD INFO and I don't care if it completely covers my monitor so I can't see my game: HWinfo64+RTSS
WHAT YEAR IS IT:Fraps
fraps was my go to for a long long time lol, that bright yellow number was my favorite
GOverlay offers the same type overlay on Linux systems for those of us that use it.
Super cool!!!
14:16 You can modify exactly what sensors to display, in the beta Nvidia App
Get the Afterburner package off 3dguru instead, it does not come with the norton crapware bundled into the installer
there was a time that site was rumored to add bad stuff to the downloads, afik it was bs, so go for the source because msi is easier to find than that other
@@arch1107 3dguru is legit, they go waaaaay back. they started as a site where people shared modifyed drivers for ATI graphics cards. (Omega Drivers) they where both faster and more stable than ati official drivers
Honest Question, why do you never do/ talk about Undervolting a GPU when you have a particularly hot example at hand? IMO it is the fastest and best way to cool down a GPU without spending any money on the set up or sacraficing performance.
Dawid is becoming the indian Tutorial guy :o , Intresting
Chrome, Ublock Origin Lite, 7Zip, LibreOffice, Spotify, Krita. Each new install. Though for overlay I use nzxt cam.
