In today's video we are back on the Audi Q4 EV car and we're going to finish off trying to repair it! But there are alot of issues that this EV has that ICE cars don't seem to have, everything is alot more difficult. So after all this will it even be worth trying to repair EV cars? I guess you can put some of it down to the fact that it's all new so there's a learning process to go through... doesn't make it any less painful though!

Great vid - Stick a multimeter across the 'faulty new fuse' when you take it off, if it conducts you've potentially got other issues!
I’ve learned a lot from this & your previous video when you removed the battery pack! I feel that I now know more about these vehicles & their technology (every day’s a school day) & I am now even less inclined to ever own & drive one! Keep up the great content, Dean! 1st class! 👍
What he said 👍
I'm impressed you came back to the Q4. EV's are a nightmare to find parts for, let alone fix!
Well these newer, more rare ones (compared to Teslas etc) for sure. Also have to say for experience, these MEB chassis cars are not clearly designed maintenance in mind. Different case with some others, where you can get parts almost everywhere, but that's the case with ICE cars too (remember a certain SUV in this channel not so long ago with part availability issues..)
I think it might not be a faulty pyro fuse. When these cars have been in an accident, both connectorboxes (SX7 and SX8) needs to be replaced, aswell as the Battery module J840.
SX8 also has a fuse in it(not a pyrofuse), that might have blown.
You might be able to repair SX7 and SX8, but I'm not sure, but I think you will have to change the BCM J840.
Would also recommend you to get new T30 bolts for the lid due to that they are stretchbolt and might snap if you tighten them to many times.
Hope this helps and good luck from Sweden.
You don’t need to replace the J840 but you do need to tell the computer it’s new. I did that a few times coding a new control module and it did the test plan fine
Sorry mate I was one of those who voted for you to repair it 😂
Good man😂
It’s all on you this 😂
Thanks for taking all the blame
Luke you dick.
That was meant to be a joke before the keyboard warriors start moaning
i guess the big lesson here is to check the continuity with a multimeter when replacing a pyro fuse in such an awkward spot. still. means more videos for the rest of us 😄
Love it. Looking forward to seeing if finished. They are fun to drive when it works.
I love the angry stomps. I have to admit I once threw a sandwich at my car in anger as I didn't know what else to do..haha (wasn't my finest hour. )
Loving the new Tiguan r line in the background
Yeah!!
The energy in this content is wild. Love everything about it.
Good vid Dean. I feel your pain! It's absolutely bonkers that the pyro is in the battery pack. My only thinking for that is by opening it up, you get to check the cells for damage. But it's a right pain in the posterior - especially when the new pyro is duff :/ Thanks for all your hard work producing this content. 😊
USE THE BATTERY AND MOTOR IN A CLASSIC CAR BUILD!!! you could use it in a vw camper or a classic mini or even a old double decker bus (i imagine itll be powerful enough)!!!
You’re obviously frustrated beyond belief with this one but the video is really interesting. It’s good to see the different challenges you’ve faced. If it was all easy and plain sailing then we’d all be out in our sheds doing the same instead of watching your struggles. Watching you overcome the challenges is a big part of the type of entertainment that you’re producing. If you come out of it with a car that owes you half of its value then I’m sure we’ll see a big smile on your face in the end.
Brilliant video , admire your patience. Why would anyone want an Ev absolutely not environmentally friendly 😊
Your videos always bring so much joy and smiles! Thank you for your talented sense of humor and your bright, infectious performances!🍊😇🏕
Interesting video. I wonder how many people would be happy to buy an EV with Cat N or Cat S history…….I don’t think I would.
Once it’s repaired it will be fine. It’s repairing it that’s the pain
Why, it’s not like it’s going to burn your house down…
oh wait!
I wouldn’t buy one even with full service history
Insurance probably won't touch it
Not me, I would only buy from a main dealer really . Got an id3 with full 2year vw warranty and just as importantly 2 years of all the updates and online services. Was the same price as any standard dealer . Will chop it in for another just before the 2 years are up
Reminds me of I Do Cars dealing with water pumps and timing rails from salvage engines. :-)
Should of left it at copart bud, best place for it 👍🏼
Hindsight 😅
@@SavingSalvageyep true dat 😂
Maybe a daft question but is the pyro fuse blown in the grey one with no airbags going off?
I believe so as It wouldn’t go into drive either
I don’t think anyone has ever been mad for a new project reveal 🙌🙌
I am haha
Hi.
You have to put the car together as one(bumper, dash etc you can't leave unplug any cables) and then the system let you deenergezine battery.I've had the same problem with Bmw I4 but finally its a live😊
Keep up the good work, great work you do 👍
I've got one of these (company lease only thank god) and it's lovely to drive, the acceleration is amazing, it's cheap to recharge on the drive but they are for very specific use cases (we do very long trips per year) and I would HATE to have to cover the costs outside of a lease/warranty, let alone try and fix it myself.
This electrical conundrum could be an opportunity for TVR stuff! 😮
As you mentioned you will be able to sell a lot of parts from the grey Audi when finished particularly the battery or someone will buy the entire car. Thanks Dean.
Hello from Ireland again Dean, My God, I ticked that box to Fix this car lol. Sorry, Dean. But you do love, Complicated stuff, so Respect bro. 🥰🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very interesting, like it or not these vehicles are going to be apart of our lives. Unfortunately we all hate them ,yes some of them are fast some people charge cheap but them days will definitely end. Very interesting fixing all these new motors
Hard day at the office, 😮 I'm sure you'll get it done. 😅🤞
Good effort still. Problem I think is these manufacturers coming from legacy ice just not doing the proper engineering they are under pressure to get an ev to compete . I have a cousin who works at Ford . They took a Tesla apart and they said car is so well thought out . Combining modules for simplicity . Being legacy manufacturer there cars they have been adding to previous gen’s and not thinking about how do they build a car from scratch. Hence lots of redundancy
Loving the video on the ev 's would enjoy more of this content .also I saw a vxr in the background ,is it for sale ?
and this is why the only thing we do on electric cars is general maintence ie. servicing, brakes, wheel bearings, tyres etc. 😂 I completely understand the frustration
Dude ur resiliance levels are off the charts!!❤❤❤❤ Robert De Bruce wouëd love u.
I nearly bought one of these 2 weeks ago 😮
Don’t
Wow! This one definitely tested your normally good patience! Venting helps!!😂 You will get there! 🤷♂️🤞Apparently this is the future!😵💫😊
We will never be mad, your content is brilliant, natural and funny, keep going, looking forward to the next build, is it an EV? 😂
I know you're frustrated with this build.....but it's very interesting
That’s reassuring at least 😂
I think we need another MX video. You need a day off to chill. 😎
Why not take all the battery unit out of the grey one and put it in the white one to test?
hope it works after you replace the fuse again 🙏 that's a nightmare, if the design engineer that put that fuse in this location is watching this they should volunteer to do it for you for free😂good luck 😀😀
Yes! So many places it could have gone! Couldn’t of been in a worse place
Fingers crossed for the new Pyro fuse to bloody work next time ...... great work as always dean ......
Why not swapping battery from gray one (if it doesn't have pyrofuse broken)?
We all know you really loved doing this !!!! 🤣 Keep them coming Dean - Is Chris putting the GTR on his jig ?
Feel your pain. This looks a total ball ache for you ... brilliant to watch, but as I said. Feeling your pain
The jumping up and down on the bonnet 😂🤣😂🤣 digging your heel right into it 😂😂🤣🤣
Don't worry its fine putting another car on, preferer that than no video
You've got the TVR, I'm sure you have the chassis back by now. That was well over a year ago that went for repair!
I do not, I only sent it for repair a month or so ago 😅
Raffle this one Dean 👍👍👍
Always interesting Dean. Grabbed 3 SVR tickets :} 👍😊
Em could it have been that because of the other bits showing faults could have caused the pyro fuse to go bang so basically there may have been a chance that there was nothing wrong with it until you tried the charge the high voltage side before you finished the rest?
Thing is most EVs especially vag cars have the pyro fuse in the main battery box and if it goes the cars a write off and there’s gonna be a lot about as there’s no technicians to fix them , means they’ll be cheap and if you’ve done it once , you know more than most
That’s why any EV that’s been in a crash is written off. Won’t fix any that airbags have deployed
Well done for continuing with that hoppibly difficult EV.
Lubie oglądać twoje filmy, pozdrowienia z Polski
12:29 lol you did what you said with anger
Hey Dean, On the EVs they have a safety cut off. Could be under the bonnet or in the boot maybe. My Ix3 is in the boot behind a side trim. My golf hybrid under the bonnet at the back of the engine bay. Thin wiring and looks like a green electrical connector. Could it have been pulled by copart? It basically bridges the wires a bit like a car fuse. This apparently disconnects the battery. Just a thought before you pull the battery again.
I bet you can’t wait to hear the exhaust roar on startup for this one! Oh, wait a minute…. 😂
Love your videos, I have one question, do you torque all the fixings as they would in the factory
Good question
Jig on the GTR finallyyyyyyyyy, can’t wait for more content on that.
👀
nah. i want Skoda :D
It was again a great video, but Is it not more of an VW/Audi design issue than an general EV thing. On my Tesla you can access the pyrofuse under the back seat..
Chin up mate a friend of a friend has a tycan he wanted to sell until it came to actually selling it i cant remember what he said but the amount it had lost was criminal
And this is another reason why insurances go up.All the issues repairer's go through on EV's plus Parts
Watchin this re energises me...
Your videos are always uplifting and full of joy. Thank you for your warmth and light!🐇⛰💵
No content?
There’s always something to do on the TVR!😊
This has put me off every owning one of these things in respect to home maintenance.
Fully appreciate the work that you’ve put into this Dean but let’s have it right, EV’s are utter wank !
😂
I work on VAG EV's on a daily basis (Not crashed ones). If you need some info, tips, part numbers,... just let me know. Battery repairs are fun, if you have the tools for it. 😂 is that the parts are so very expensive..
Great vid as always
@@IbyG6 you’re only 2 mins into it 😂🤦🏻♂️
@@SavingSalvage I already know it’s gone be good dw
Good work on the use of the word gubbins
Working on my EV is far more simple than working on my diesel car. Then again, neither is crashed 😅. Interesting video, thanks!
By the hairs on my chinny chin chin
@MattyEngland I have to agree with Bloempottest, I guess it comes down to your background. Mine is in electronics engineering, not mechanics 🙂
Salvage rebuilds UK do some hybrids
At least there aren't thousands of engine parts to repair!
@@BryanJackson-vy6ss There are many thousands of components just inside the invertor alone. Many many times more than the amount of parts to a IC engine.
man that is such a bummer, hopefully that fuse will be all thats preventing to succesfull charging it.. hi5
well most of the problem stuff come up all to do with a shitty Pyro fuse so that's nothing to do with the car no matter how much you hate EVs it's A learning curve like everything else
DEAN your lucky, vw is the only one that the battery box is screws and notspot welded .
Sounds like a Audi problem not a EV problem 😂
Well did you think of before u try the other battery on the spare parts car if the problem was the same as do the spare parts car battery than the other one as a thought removing it will easily solve problem with the damage the cover of the battery and be able for working on. As I remove the whole charging module as that might be the issue with the battery and that might have caused the pryo fuse to blow or go faulty. Only thought on that 🤔
Good vid Dean.
did you try checking the other battery to see if it had a working pyro fuse?? might save you a few pennies in the long run.
I was thinkinhg this too. If no airbags are deployed, is pyro then ok? Or does it blow off from g-forces
What about the rs6/A6 in the field? At the end of the video. Now you have time left🤪
If the grey car runs, swap the battery packs over
Someone mentioned doing a continuity on the fuse when you take it out..Did you check the original one if it was open circuit?
I would be very surprised if the new piro fuse was faulty, recon it's something else ??
Forgot about this one
I wish I did
Best to forget it brother, utter shite ,evs, meh!👎👎👎😱😬😬👀💀💀💀🇬🇧🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Highly unlikely to have a blown pyro fuse from new. If it is blown then I'd check if there's anything that could have blown it before you put the new one in.
I don’t think the fuse it blown, but the airbag signal part of it is defective
Is there anyway the fuse can be tested prior to fitting 🤔 or was it supposed to of been tested already?
Dean the only thing I can think of worse than repairing an ev is owning one that you keep being told is working perfectly. But is an absolute impractical pile of manure.
I hate mine with a passion. Cant do a 110 mile round trip off a full charge - 60/40 motorway and AB road split (212 mile availability my arse) . I have to spend £10+ for a 80 mile top up at a public charge point to make sure I will make it home. I honestly reckon when repaired you might lose out putting through compete.
Good luck with it tho mate seriously - don’t envy you one bit
My BMW E38 DSC and ABS light on i bought 4 wheel speed sensors and its my ABS pump bmw £625/ Ebay £80 plugg and play all done now .
My birthday in November I’ll take the car 😅
is the pyro no good in the grey one?
So the car wont reset the battery and drive until the safety equipment is repaired first, this sounds like a good safety feature
Did your plug in and diagnostics include getting codes from vw Audi to unlock the battery? I also started out with two diagnostic machines to clear codes. But soon found out it’s not possible without proprietary machine and backup from vw/audi
My only fault code is an implausible signal from the pyro fuse and 0 volts at the battery control module. Tried every test plan under the sun
11:42 new Tiguan 😮💨
Could you fit the battery out of the grey car to make your white one work?😊
I've just seen your other comments. 😊
There here to stay im afraid Dean, once you learn the technology and how they work your mind will change over time.
Doubt it, they are shit
Yes I agree, most of which I’m complaining about are because it’s new. Although the pyro fuse location is a dick move. Can’t really test it without putting it all back together
@@SavingSalvagewhy didn’t you carry out a quick continuity test before fitting the fuse, a few seconds would’ve saved you hours in labour time.
@@alancobbin because it was a brand new fuse I guess 😅
Could you not have taken the fuse out of the grey car?
Is it possible it intentionally blew the new fuse because the air bags were still reporting as deployed 🤔🙃🤔🙃🤔🙃🤔🙃🤔🙃🤔
a sobering thought indeed!
Is the battery and pyro fuse ok in the rear damage car?
Hi mate when you bought the new multi van for your wife did you get shut of the vw carevelle.
What about tvr fix that Sunday
Chassis is still at tvr central
Please watch cars for Paul episode judgement day id3 where he had someone to use odis to eventually clear all codes and got it working.first of all the whole car had to be completed and everything working even the headlamps!
Maybe ask the same guy too help as helped Paul.leave the battery as is because fuse already replaced.Goodluck
Why don’t you use the battery pack of the other car?
What about the headlights the withe one has matrix led. The audi computer is gona be mad😅
