"The opulent sound will come back " YEEEEEESEEES!! And I love how he imitates Abbado's way of reacting! So funny and TRUE! hahahaha. Yes!!! Big sound will come back!!
Similar to Fergus' comment about his mentor, Ifor James, at my age of 13 (1959), my mentor, John Barrows, taught me. "If you want to play, play!" Subsequently, he added, "Shut up and play". BTW, Mr. Barrows played mostly B flat horn (as do I, Alexander 107X). AHG from Long Island, NY.
Interesting listening to the conversation about the horn players and the acoustics in the Philharmonie. I've been to many concerts and kind of know the "klang" of the hall. But I was at a concert yesterday (Mahler 3rd, conducted by Metha) and the sound of the horns was different, kind of reflected from the left wall. To me it appeared that the horn section was moved little to the left (looking from the hall at the stage), closed to the side wall. Am I right, or did I remember wrongly?
#Cleveland: i like my CBS Venyl buyed in Cologne at Marcato (~1974/75) "Wunder der Stereophonie. Giovanni Gabriel: Festliche Bläsermusik (Sinfoniae sacrae, Canzoni, Sonaten) mit den besten Virtuosen aus 3 Spitzenorchestern _Philadelphia_, _Cleveland_, and _Chicago_.
And 7 years later it actually happend: the guys all retired. And Sarah is a horn section without them.

1:09:24 That's actually quite an impressive pianissimo, specially a "falling off the chair" pianissimo, omg ahah
Amazing that the Berlin horn section had two players from the UK and one from America. (Am I missing anyone?).

Intro music: clap, clap, clap.
