    For every pedalboard function Gilmour essentially used two variations. That gives you distortion/fuzz, overdrive, compressor, and boost. For each of these functions you essentially need an A/B selector switch, and a bypass-both switch. Just think, that should give you about eight gain sound combinations.

    I have a Tube Driver I bought in 1991 and when I realized I was using it all the time to get Marshall tone from my vintage Ampeg I took it off the floor and it now sits permanently on top of the amp with a short shielded ribbon cable to the input. I think these are powered by a couple of 12AX7s. It has become my full-time on-duty pre-preamp. Kicks major ass. The only time I turn it off is those rare times I want my sound totally clean at low volume. I understand these are a bit rare and pricey now on the used vintage market. I know why.

      What you described is essentially what a Marshall gives you, a Hiwatt Amp with a Tube Driver all inside the basic amp! Whereas the Marshall is a one-trick pony, it is one hell of a trick! What Gilmour does is break it all apart into separate components so he can tailor the sound to include all these clean tones and modulations. Both strategies can be great. Look at AC/DC, they basically just plug a Gibson into a Marshall and have made a whole career out of just that.

      @@mobydick3895 I wonder how the Tube Driver would sound, or what it would do really, in the effects loop inserted between the preamp and the power section? Instead of before preamp? Now my Tube Driver is really just a pedal kicking my amp. Always last thing before amp's instrument input jack and I only use one or two pedals ever in front of that but always at least a delay. I've never yet inserted pedals after the amp's preamp although the effects loop jacks are right there. What's the advantage of inserting effects AFTER the preamp? Less distortion?

    What's it sound like when all of them are on full-blast? Like Barrett?

    • @4vinylsound
      @4vinylsound  Год назад

      Not sure if you mean all on full blast single or All together at the same time my videos show them on pretty much full separately not together. Sid Barrett used a fuzz Box similar to the fuzz face which I always keep on full blast. Dimed.

    get the dunlop ffm1 silicon fuzz face, it's closer to what David Gilmour would have used, also he didn't really use Ge he preferred silicon

    • @4vinylsound
      @4vinylsound  2 года назад +1

      These are the silicon fuzz face. The germanian ones that gilmour used in his early days than the sixties were red then he went to the silicon which, the blue one this one.

    • @4vinylsound
      @4vinylsound  2 года назад +1

      If you are referring to the dark blue Mini, I had that one. I didn't like it this one has a pronounced mid range silicon sound it's better with my amplifiers.

    • @KYCDK
      @KYCDK 2 года назад

      @@4vinylsound the hendrix silicon fuzz face sounds very different to the ones david gilmour used, the hendrix ones seem to have less gain, good for songs like little wing but for time and echoes that have very fuzzy tone, doesn't get distorted enough. plus most if not all gilmour songs with a fuzz face that would be deemed as recognisable used silicon, time, echoes, atom heart mother, fat old sun, one of these days, money, shine on you crazy diamond part 6, all used a silicon fuzz face, using bc109 transistors (though bc108s are just fine) the hendrix one won't give you the loud fuzz sounds you were in echoes or time and if you roll the volume back it will clean too much if you want to play money

    • @KYCDK
      @KYCDK 2 года назад

      @@4vinylsound honestly if you do prefer the hendrix one, definatly use it, but you may need to boost it a bit more, most of the mids though should come from the amp and a bit from the drive (turning down the treble and up the bass) but if you prefer the hendrix one, use it
