  • Looking for something to make landing fish easier?
    Fish Grips and landing nets are two products that do just that.
    Each one offers a different advantage for getting fish into the boat.
    While both devices help you land fish, each one has its own pros and cons.
    This video fully reviews both Fish Grips and Landing Nets and shows you how to use them.
    You can see the full review for Fish Grips and Landing Nets here:

    Fish Grips
    Fish Grips are a device that features a handle with a locking system that clamps down on the inside and outside of the fish’s bottom lip.
    The Fish Grips makes it easier to control the fish while landing it and easier to hold.
    It also floats in case you drop it in the water and has a wrist lanyard to keep it attached to your body.
    Fish Grips also make it easier to keep a fish’s mouth open while trying to retrieve a deeply set hook.
    Landing Nets
    Landing nets refers to any hand net that is small enough to carry on your person but big enough to handle the fish you’re targeting.
    They make it easier to land a fish by allowing you to simply dip the net in the water and scoop your fish out.

    Really appreciate the fact that you’re so focused on conservation & reducing trauma to the fish.

      Nothing about catch and release is conservation; it’s wildlife harassment. An angler who fishes for food only catches what is needed. Those fishing without the intent of eating the fish are doing so only for the thrill of it; for their own personal pleasure. None of those fish needed to be traumatized. Catch and release is a sadistic “sport” which inflicts unnecessary harm on fish solely for the pleasure it brings to some human.
      The Native Americans, when they hunted, said a prayer to the spirit of the animal they had killed, thanking it for the sacrifice it had made. They respected their prey, and wasted none of it.

    ideally both together - net the fish then grip it to remove hook/lure (helps reduce thrashing), hold for pic, then release. the grip also comes in handy when handling real toothy fish.

    Never thought about damaging the fishes mouth with metal grips. Gonna only use my plastic ones. Thanks for the info.

    Great video, helpful information and useful suggestion regarding adding pool noodle to the net! ... And MAN, those are some quality reds you landed!

    I have that same net! I strongly prefer the net when it’s a larger fish, and I use the grips because it’s less stressful on the fish.

      It is a great net for the price, especially for wading or fishing from a small vessel, kayak, or paddleboard.

    I use Tournament Ranger landing nets. Blue type. In my Hobie Pasport 12.0 and it doesn't take out lots of room.

    Thanks Tony. Awesome vid. Have you ever posted a video on how to remove hooks from the fish's mouth after landing it?

    Great video and good explanations. Only thing I didnt like was a clicking sound from the micro or something.

    Excellent video. You present both sides of the issue before coming in with your conclusion. Two questions. I have the same net but I spend a lot of time working out treble hooks. Is there a better model that's not expensive? I kayak and wade, and I really like the idea of landing fish with grips. However sea trout never seem to stop flapping around and flounder and big reds are tight lipped. Any trick to get them to open there mouths?

    Every fish grip type tool I have tried always comes loose when the fish flops. I use a "Fishlifter" although it broke when a 8 lb. pike flopped around.

    I'm really surprised in 2022 that someone has invented a merger of the plastic fish grip with the Boga Grip style...meaning all stainless steel, but with a wider, blunt gripper like the plastic ones. The benefits of the Boga Grip style but with the wide grip better for the fish's mouth.

    Can I please make a request? How about the fastest way to clean a boat alone after fishing in salt water. After a trip I’m hot tired thirsty and the last thing I want to do is wash the boat and trailer. I know it’s necessary so I do it. A friend of mine just goes over his boat with a low power (1600 psi) pressure washer not held too close and that’s all his does. He says it gets the salt and grime off without stripping the wax. Any thoughts? Would love a video of the fastest most efficient way you do it. Thank you.

      I just wash mine down with a normal garden hose starting at the highest point, and then moving downhill from there (only scrub spots that don't wash off from the water hitting it). Then flush the engine and it's a done deal.

    • @jawjuh1005
      @jawjuh1005 6 лет назад

      Salt Strong so you don’t need to use soap? You just spray with garden hose and scrub dirty spots and flush engine? That’s it?

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  6 лет назад

      I rarely use any soap when I was down my boat (perhaps 1 in 20 trips), and haven't had any problems with rust.

    Looking thru the video, using the grip and dragging the fish up against kayak and onto your pants in order to land it, isnt that as worst than using the net? Plus there's chance of damaging the fish's jaw using the grip by notice anglers.

    • @tonyacevedo3149
      @tonyacevedo3149 6 лет назад

      The majority of the fish's body is still in the water once I put my other hand underneath the belly to help bring them in. I also have much more control of the fish when using the grips. If you put a fish in a net they tend to flop around all over the place.

    • @user-bk2zp1uv6t
      @user-bk2zp1uv6t 6 лет назад

      @@tonyacevedo3149 you're pretty good on handling in. Most people would just drag it up along the side and on the pants, especially a large fish like that

    Metal fish grips rip up the fish so bad!!!

    • @tonyacevedo3149
      @tonyacevedo3149 6 лет назад

      Yeah i'm definitely not a fan of those. What's even worse are the ones that have a built-in scale, which just gives people a reason to hang a fish from its head.
